Why don't we African do our own documentary to tell our part of the story to the world

There are many historical documentaries created by African Americans. Why don't other people do it? Because they don't have the money nor access to the sources. Much of historical records are keep by western government, the big prestigious universities, churches, etc and regular people don't have access to these records which are scattered all over the world.

@@nkwakutoure Definitely. There are places around the world but people are aware. For example Sengal has the museum of Black civilization. South Africa has Freedom Park which has a Pan African section and memorials to numerous people. The UK has the Black Cultural archives which deals with the history of black people in the UK. Panama has Africa- Panama month. Barbados has African heritage month as well. I think there needs to be a way these groups can work together to tell our history on a grand scale.

@@nkwakutoure I'm aware of that. But there is information about other black people's history if people are prepared to research. It's a shame that stories such as this are not being told in schools throughout Africa and many people don't know that in Africa we had the world's oldest universities and the Europeans came into Africa to learn and these are the things that they need to teach the youth in schools throughout Africa but they are not doing it instead they are teaching the youth that the Europeans created everything and everything good came from the Europeans and that is a disaster because it teaches Africans to not be proud of themselves and our reach culture.

@Sheree Hardin www.wonderopolis.org/wonder/why-was-school-created "In the United States, the first schools began in the 13 original colonies in the 17th century. For example, Boston Latin School, which was founded in 1635, was the first public school and the oldest existing school in the country. Credit for our modern version of the school system usually goes to Horace Mann. When he became Secretary of Education in Massachusetts in 1837, he set forth his vision for a system of professional teachers who would teach students an organized curriculum of basic content. For this reason, Mann is often called the “Father of the Common School Movement"

Liberia is the only country in West Africa that had so many white presidents. Presently now based on the Liberian Constitution you have to be black to be called Liberian. Another race can't be a citizen of Liberia. Either one of your parents is black Liberian therefore you can be a Liberian. like for example if your parents bone you in Liberia and you are full-white that means you are not Liberian citizen. The Liberian Constitution grant any Liberian child born abroad a free citizenship in Liberia. As long as your parents are Liberians are either one of them is Liberian, that's up to you to be a Liberian citizen at the age of 21. At the same time it comes with some rules, you cannot take part in Liberians politics, neither run for government in Liberians.. but you can own properties in Liberia, that is your full right. I wish every part of Africa can have that Constitution, exclude the North side 🤫👉🏿💪🏼 because I don't think they're Africans.

Just wow. 1700 - 1800 must have been a tumultuous time in the Continent .A lot was happening as the shackles of slavery were being fought to be removed , these same White People were redesigning a new grip, by living on the Continent and controlling the resources administrative through colonisation and the story continues. I guess they copied it, from the African American Liberia model. It's the same manner the Portuguese merchants started selling us as commodity from using our system of skavery and switching it around to somthing else .History really gives you the perspective of why things are the way they are. The history of The American Colonization Society (ACS) role in the establishment of a Freed Black Country called Liberia in West Africa was intentionally left out of the high school history books in the U.S. I was surprised to find a small chapter on The ACS in my American History book in college. College students who are majoring in African American Studies or doing courses in AA studies are privileged with such vast information on the role African Americans have in the establishment of Liberia. Up till now it baffles me why this important African American history is not taught in American High School? The White Man divide and conquer of the black race continues unabated! The struggle for African Unity must continue unabated.

African Americans formed America’s infrastructure first. When some of the freed slaves migrated to Liberia it was already occupied. African Americans helped.

Just for clarity, back then the idea of Pan-Africanist was still in its infancy. So when my ancestors returned to our homeland they brought with them a way of life they had learned from their “masters” so when they arrived instead of trying to make peace with their brothers, they tried to separate themselves from other Africans, even enslaving their own brothers and sisters. What they learned on the plantations of America was being used against our people by the American government. They didn’t even try to rehabilitate my ancestors to their homeland, they just forced us on a boat and shipped us back across the Atlantic, they were given no means of survival and were basically thrown to the wolves so to speak. The American government expected them to die since there was literally a war going on at the time between two tribes, they were shocked when they found us still alive as we began to assimilate back into African society, we eventually united with our people until we became family once again. Now it’s happening on a continental scale in which African Americans are tired of being forced to identify with the country that enslaved our ancestors ands are looking for tribes to call our own, one day our people will be one again 💯🖤🖤✊🏿

Why is this comment allowed to stay? It is divisive and also INACCURATE. African Americans did not enslave the natives. This was a lie told by the racist League of Nations and was one of many attempts to discredit Liberia in order to have a 'justified' reason to colonize it. African Americans came and BOUGHT the land from some of the chiefs in the area to start over in Africa after becoming free from slavery.... But then, for reasons unknown, they bought the land but then also had to share it with the people they bought it from? I don't understand that part of the history. If I buy a house from a family, that family doesn't get to stay in the house and live with me afterwards but that's a different discussion I guess. When African Americans established Liberia they witnessed first hand, the local tribes still partaking in the illegal slave trade(they were taking Africans to the coast to sell to the Portuguese) This obviously offended Liberians(talking about newly settled African Americans in Liberia) and they took direct action to stop this trade. This upset the locals, as it was effecting their trade. As a result, local tribes regularly attacked the small and fragile Liberian settlements for over a decade until the Liberians decisively defeated the local tribes and peace was established between the Liberian settlements and the local tribes. As a result of these early interactions, the Liberians(so called americo Liberians) rightfully distrusted the local tribes and tried to keep them away from Liberia. Over time, though, more and more trust was established and Liberia began to integrate the local tribes into Liberia proper(making them Liberians as well) this included adopting children from local tribes, providing schooling, apprenticeship, training, and stable jobs in the government. Some were even sent to Europe and America to go to American colleges and universities and come back to help Liberia. This was a great system that was expanding more and more under Tolbert as he truly tried to integrate the natives into Liberia. They were also allowed to join the military and over time became the majority of the military personnel (this was obviously a mistake) So as you can see, Liberians WERE integrating the local tribes into Liberia but the native population decided that they just wanted to take over everything and killed most of the Liberian ran government in 1980. Having taken over Liberian with all the infrastructure undamaged and ready for use, what did they do with it? They destroyed it all in stupid tribal wars and Liberia is still recovering from it. Judging by the upvotes for the original comment it seems that anti African American(so called americo Liberians) feelings are still there which is sad because they were not the ones to actually destroy the country. At this point(2019 going into 2020) there should be no more talk of natives vs Congo people(so called americo Liberians)... We should all just be Liberians from now on and follow the example set by Rwanda. This was Liberia before the war - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gM6ooshpsq-WhWw.html Liberia in 1962 - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lc9mdrui39Pbo4U.html Sadly we have not regained these Glory days in Liberia. Africans from all over the continent used to vacation in Liberia it was so nice!

@@pietrojenkins6901 why are you asking me? Do I look like Mrs Africa or Mrs President?😁 You just can't shake off me😂😂😂 On a serious note. There are lot of factors, just like most African countries of West Africa, I think colonialism affected us so badly because we had assimilate to the British Psych so we struggled to form our National Identity we became more confused. And you have to go back to the history of the remnants of slavery transitioning into colonialism. So as the Freed settlers are integrated with the indigeneous people there is an underling fault. This division played a major role in the political tussles, cope detas, and instabilities in these Nation. Liberia just had the worst end on the stick! And the civil war in Liberia was no joke! I almost lost my sister to that war. That's story for another day. Plus a lot of Liberians next for the USA. We have big thriving Liberians communities in Philadelphia PA , Princeton NJ, Boston MA .When a generation leaves a country. The void is what you see in present day Liberia.
