An opponent was asked how it was fighting a younger Foreman in the 70's. Foreman hit him with a very powerful punch and knocked him down. It was the hardest he'd been hit. He was in shock and asked Foreman "WTF, are you trying to kill me...?!?". Foreman simply...stared at him nodding without saying a word. I would've just left the ring. That's terrifying, like being stuck in a cage with an angry tiger.

@@andrethornton9709, how? Ali was the racial bigoted, backstabber, and draft dodger. Hid behind his religion (which consorted ironically with the KKK) into not going to Vietnam on grounds of non-violence, but contradicted himself with talk of Holy Wars. Joe helped him out in numerous ways, and Ali maligned him with lies (which affected not only Joe but his entire family and his children were bullied at school) and crashed his gym sessions and turned up outside Joe's house waving a gun. Ali aka Cassius C**t was a gobby, can't stand people like that, especially if you've done them a good turn. At least Smokin' Joe made him eat those words with that terrific left hook that put Ali on the canvas in The Fight of the Century. And what many didn't know at the time was Frazier was purblind in his left eye his entire boxing career, an incredible disadvantage for a boxer.

What’s sad is that Frazier’s health had taken a huge hit about a year prior as his blood pressure spiked due to a needed procedure that was never done. Really destroyed him and we can see it in his Ellis rematch as Ellis lasted 8 rounds before being TKOd in the 9th but in their first match, he only lasted 4 rounds. Sad to see a health issue strike someone down in their prime. If he never had that health problem, those two would’ve had an amazing fight!

Frazier originated the pounding of the meat that Stallone lifted for his movie. Joe feared no man. I met Joe at a fight event for his son, Marvis, and when I told him that my father idolized him, Joe asked where my father was sitting. Before the first round Joe found his way all the way into the second row at ringside and called out my father’s name…my father was stunned as Joe walked into the aisle to shake hands with my father. I don’t know of any other famous boxer that would go all that way into a row for someone he never even met to shake his hand. My dad met his hero that day. it was an incredible memory, Joe was the greatest! A true Legend!

@@johnv5827 True Actors and Celebrities make stories but I believe this. Everyone in that ring gets afraid at some point. Ali taunted and kept annoying Sonny Liston but he later admitted he was terrified of him as everyone else was. Frazier might've been a humble man but he was a force of nature in that ring. Foreman was the worst possible matchup stylistically for Joe. Fear can be used to help you in the ring as shown by Ali against Liston.

True story: My Dad was an amateur boxer, 118lbs, in his teenage years. I was 5 yr. old out for dinner, (S. Philly), on Mother's Day. Joe Frazier, (Heavyweight Champion at that time), was eating with his Family and people were asking him for his autograph. After the crowd subsided my Dad sent me over with pen & paper. Joe grabbed the pen and I said, "No thank you Sir, can I have her autograph", (His Wife). On his way out I remember Joe Frazier coming to our table. He stood behind my chair and rested his hands on my shoulders as he asked my Dad, "Why did you send your son to ask for my Wife's autograph"? Without skipping a beat my Dad replied, " It's Mother's Day...Who the hell are you...?". Joe laughed and pulled up a chair and chewed the fat with my Pop. I'll never forget the nice man and his massive strong hands. Today is the 31st anniversary of my Father's passing. RIP Daddy, I love you!
