Love how Carlos has always acknowledged and embodied the spiritual aspect of music. Duane Allman has always been a favorite of mine, and he also had the spiritual aspect to his playing. From around '68 until Duane's death in late '71 they must have crossed paths. I wonder if they jammed? Never heard or read Carlos discuss Duane (or Dickey). Bill Graham ever book them together at Fillmore West or East. Always thought Carlos' rhythm section and Allman's had similar, perculating rhythm.

Wyclef: “How did you get your (guitars) sound?” (Usually meaning what type of guitar or gear a guitarist uses that create their sound.) Santana: (He could’ve answered… a this guitar or that amp.) “(Instead he recites poetry. LOL.)……………..” BUT CARLOS SANTANA IS NO MERE MORTAL, THE MAN IS SUPERNATURAL!!! Y que vive Carlitos Santana!! El maestro de nosotros guitaristas/musicos de todo el mundo!! Viva Mexico, Viva la Raza, God bless us all 🌎 🙏🏻🇲🇽🤘🏾✊🏿💪🏽👌🏼✌🏼!! From the words of Ol’ Carlos:LET THE MUSIC SET YOU FREE

Wonderful to hear Carlos play with a deep clean guitarsound. Wish he would do that more often. It sounds beautiful! He used Fender amps a lot in the beginning. They have him a little less saturated sound and a little more dynamics. Which really suits his playing and voice.

Carlos played thru 2 Fender Super Reverbs in the late 60's and some kind of booster gizmo the size of a matchbox that plugged in direct to the Gibson SG ,,that was a gig at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino. Randy California of Spirit used the same booster,,,sorry guys cant remember the name but they sold millions and everybody had them,,,

@@dingalarm I was just going to say the same. I had one back then, too but plugged into the front of my Twin Reverb. Really gave it a good Boost, too. The little Match Box thing Randy used, plugged directly into to his guitar was a Jordan Boss-Tone (Fuzz Box). I had the use of one too, but opted for more of a natural "cranked amp" overdrive at the time.

Carlos is right, those blues guys where pure and authentic, muddy waters, Budy Guy, B.B.King all had their personal sound and knew how to jam and fit in. Carlos also has his distinct sound because he made the journey inside and pulled out his music and sound, ofcourse influenced by the blues and latin ( african) rhythms.

That's right. You listen to it, and you feel instantly connected with everything in Universe. It can make you jump in joy, or break into tears. Only talented artists can move people's feelings like that. It's like some people say: they just have the gift. You can learn to play an instrument and actually come to do it awesomely, and that's great; but some musicians will stand out from the crowd. Those are the ones who are blessed with the gift.

I always have been a fan but i became obsessed when I went to a flea market and found his vinyl “Shango” album and it’s been my favorite out of my entire collection, and I have quite a few. Since then, I am always searching for his vinyl. I wish he was my tio 😢😢

At 1:10 Wyclef says "two pickups, right? " pointing at the two knobs. But they are not individual volume controls, unless Carlos has changed things. One is volume,. one tone. I play a PRS Tremonti and another PRS copy with Santana II pickups. Carlos has always been a great inspiration both in his style and personality. Read his autobiography!

Having researched the History of Paul Reed Smith guitars and their import copy PRS recently. I find it amusing when Wyclef here asked Carlos 'This guitar is what kind of model? .... and Carlos turns his head to the headstock of his guitar as if to read it, and then answers 'Yeah it's a Paul Reed Smith ....... NOWHERE on HIS Signature model USA made Paul Reed Smith guitars ..... Does it actually have a logo that says Paul Reed Smith on it .... anywhere !!!! .... a little known fact. Edit: Paul Reed Smith is written on the back electronic pot cover, on the Production models.

This is the first time in 30 years santana doesn't sound like he's playing through 6 compression pedals. I don't know when he decided sustain is more important than anything else, but it definitely isn't. I listen to Samba PA Ti and wonder where that guy went. He has so much touch and feel, I don't know if it's the Boogies, or the PRS with the short 24 1/2" scales, but his tone has gotten so overly round and compressed, that there's no life to it anymore. People say you can tell it's Carlos Santana within the first couple bars of a song, and it's true, but only because it sounds like everything else he's done. He should go back to the Dumble and an SG with PAFs or P90s for a while, get some dynamics going again.

He doesnt want to take his $15,000 origin as l Dumble on the road anymore. He has been using Mesa and prs way longer than he used fender and gibson. Supernatural speaks for itself in its accomplishments. The man has serious soul in his playing. ALL guitarists have similar scale patterns and modes they use that make them kinds sound the same. From blues to metal that is true. Santana is a blues guy so he is always using blues scales to improv.

In the world there were and are very good guitarists, call yourselves, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Brian May, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Hendrix, etc, etc, etc, but from there they did not pass, in several years they will to listen to a recording and they are going to ask, what good guitarist? Who is he? - But when listening to an album by Carlos Santana, they will immediately identify him, because C. Santana belongs to the small group of musicians who have created an inimitable and unrepeatable style, Carlos Santana stood out above all of them and that is why he is recognized worldwide En el mundo había y hay muy buenos guitarristas, llámense, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Brian May, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Hendrix, etc, etc, etc, pero de ahí no pasaron, en varios años van a estar escuchando una grabación y van a preguntar, ¿qué buen guitarrista? ¿Quién es él? - Pero al escuchar un disco de Carlos Santana, inmediatamente lo identificarán, porque C. Sound comes from 3 main places: 1. The player 2. The instrument 3. The sound system The player in the case is a master. Much of that distinct sound comes from the fingers. ❤

Definitely the majority of the magic is in the way he plays, it comes from his hands and his spirit... but Carlos never sounded better than when he played a Gibson L6-S or especially a Yamaha SG. Those PRS's just do not hit that glorious blossoming tone... been a fan of his for over 50 years, but the PRS's just sound "deadened & muffled" and not in ANY aspect in a good way - his playing was still amazing, but his tone became dull like someone threw a quilt over the amp. This is the reason I've steered clear of the "jack of all trades" guitar.
