I was a police officer 1966-69. I barely qualified on the practical pistol course with an S&W model 10. I found a used Hi Power in a local gun shop. I picked it up and fell in love. I have long fingers, and it fit my hand perfectly-like it was custom designed for me personally. I didn't have to aim. Point and shoot. A fellow officer criticized me for carrying a 9mm. I think I was the only cop in Harris County carrying a 9mm.

Classic beauty, piece of history, breakthrough design, ahead of it’s time feel and ergonomics. There’s a reason it has been around so long and refuses to go away. I have one from 1994. If not my favorite pistol easily in the top 3.

Great pistol. Bought one to carry in a shoulder holster as a Cobra pilot in Viet Nam. Second time I was shot down used it against an NVA soldier with an AK at close range. I was running and he was slow. Never fired it again but still keep it healthy.

I acquired an Inglis Browning whilst living in Aden, back in the late 1950's, when my father was on a posting out there, for the British Government. I was 11 years old at the time and had previously owned a Baby Browning and an FN Browning 1922. The Inglis was the Fixed Sight version, not the Tangent sight version. Somebody who knew what he was doing with guns - a Regimental Armourer - had removed the Magazine Disconnect, which prevented the pistol from firing without the magazine, so the trigger was quite good. As for you comment about the Internal Extractor, I don't remember ever having extraction problems and I owned and shot that pistol in competitions in the UK, right up until we had our guns confiscated in 1996, following the Dunblane School shooting. During the early 1970's, I had the rear sight cut deeper and had a new - wider - Front Sight installed, which made shooting more accurate. At the same time, I also had a new Barrel installed, as it had had a lot of NATO Mk 2z rounds fired through it, before I got it. On a number of occasions, I also used 2z ammo, because it was so much cheaper to buy in bulk. After the new barrel, I only used decent ammo. I was mortified when I had to hand over my Inglis, following Dunblane. We weren't even allowed to sell our guns abroad, although some people were able to move their guns 'off-shore', because they had property in France.

I love the Browning High Power, traded a case beers and a bottle brandy for one in Angola.Only came with one mag though. My service pistol was a Star 'B' model. Bought that one for 54 Rand. That looks just like a 1911. My trickI discovered is to clean them with jet A1 fuel, wipe them dry add a few drops diesel in strategic places and they both perform flawlessley.

With the hi power, you dont have to hold bagk the slide to disassemble or reassemble, you lock the safety upward into the front notch, and it makes it easier to perform maintenance. Nice pistol.

I saw one of the new ones at my local shop. I forgot all about this gun and that one at the shop is what made me start looking into this one. I'm normally die hard old school revolver guy. I just bought a 1926 Colt Pocket Positive that is sexy. My last one, back in January is a 3 inch tapered barrel square but S&W pre-model 36 from 1955. Both blued.

Bro, that's just bad ass dude. I fuckin love it. LOVE IT! I'm a HUGE old school revolver guy. There's only a small handful of autos that I even like anymore and this is one of them. This, Beretta 92FS, Colt Government 1911 70's Series, Colt Vest Pocket and the Smith autos from back in the day. A model 52 perhaps? One is a model 39, but the double stack 9mm without the fancy sights. I am not a big fan of 9mm either because it's so overly popular, but 3 of those I want are 9mm and I'm good with those. I think that's it. I love old school guns anyhow so this older one is right up my alley AND it's WWII! Amazing! Thanks for sharing dude! It looks like you have dark walnut grips. That's tight.

I have one from the early 80s a plain military Herstal model they sold in the 80s I modified it for target shooting with Millet sights, a couple of fitted custom Barsto barrels, tuned trigger with over travel stop and more. The small caliber autos like 9mm and 38 Super were popular with reloaders and shooters for a few years. The 9mm was a fun round to tune in. Perhaps this SA would be a good platform for that also.
@ForgottenMan1

dede dee, What was your need for ‘a couple’ of fitted Barsto bbels.? I just dropped mine in and it shot great [no fitting req’d]; just wondering. The BHP is still my favorite; I’m really thinking about moving to the USA fm CA, in order to become a full fledged US citizen. SFPD30&Ret’d

@deedeeindustrialsuperprecision Жыл бұрын
@@ForgottenMan1 They offered a tighter chamber for target use , drop in and barrels that need fitting. I ended up honing the resizing die to get a little better dialed in trying to get closer to the 45acp accuracy. Back in the 80s 45 brass was getting harder to get cheap but lots of surplus 9mm then. I was also shooting 38 super but that was too costly for me and there are the case separations from normal loads giving you 38 super face.

Thank you for this great review. You appear to be a true Constitutionalist. I have three BHP. Two are fingerprint/thumb print internal extractors. One (gift to my Son on his 22 birthday) is external. I stay legal as I am an FFL-03 in California so you can imagine the scrutiny I am under. While I know all three I purchase legally, I find it very hard to nail down an exact year based on the serial number. Of course, an internal extractor makes them very early WWII type production, but I just cannot figure out an exact year of production. Any help would be appreciated.

So many manufacturers are making 9MM autos that are "Just Like" or "Improved" or "Better Than" the Hi-Power. Claim though they may, there is only one Hi-Power. The rest are (in my view, Poor) imitations. This holds true for Browning's A5 shotgun as well.

I can hear my late mother in law now..."Wish in one hand and &%$# in the other and see which fills up faster." Hey, i wish they'd bring it back as well but I strongly, strongly suspect that even if they did, what they'd have to do in order to make it competitive with the SA at this juncture would be cost prohibitive. i mean they were already somewhat pricey to begin with just the way they were.

@@nomad753 That's interesting. I never thought about that. I'm not trying to be funny here but I'm thinking that would go over like Ron Jeremy in a nunnery with the purists. It would be competitive pricing wise and perhaps quality wise and therefor somewhat competitive with this new offering from Springfield, I get that but it discounts anyone who'd ever be seeking the old school Belgian blaster. Still though, that's an interesting prospect.

GP=Grande Puissance. Aka grand piss ant. 🤣 I had read Frederick Forsyth novels in my freshman year in college in 1978 and the Browning High Powered was featured as an issued sidearm to the British SAS. Wow, the legendary SAS carried it? I've got to have one. So some years later I finally bought one in 1987. And becauee the Remington 870 12 gauge pump shotgun was also featured and used by the SAS, I had to have one too. Thr Browning fit my small hands very well. The single action trigger could be improved by deleting the magazine disconect. The safety could be improved with a wider safety lever. But it was accurate, reliable, and was my companion during the Rodney King Riots in LA in 1992. Since FN ceased production I have retired it. So now I recently got thr Springfield SA35. It is a 95% clone. But better trigger, good sights, good safety lever, and tighter tolerances using CNC machines to cut and mill the parts. It's good for +P ammo and shoots very nice with a nice light recoil and comfortable feeel. There are some sharp edges especially in the rear semi beavertail that could use some de-horning.
