I always thought that Iris and Cilan from the anime represented truth and ideals and Ash was always in the middle. Iris is more in tune with the world around her, the ideals and Cilan is the logical one always searching for the truth. Ash was always in the middle thinking of them both.

The Tao Trio could also be referenced by "The Three Pure Ones" in Taoism, representing the three essentials of the body: Jing (body), Qi (spirit), and Shen (heart). And in a way, they sort of symbolize it. Kyurem only being a leftover *husk* is the Jing, Zekrom who represents *ideals* is the Shen (cuz ideals or desires r mostly from the heart), and Reshiram who represents *truth* is the Qi (the truth stems from logical thinking)

Mercury, Sulfur and Salt, these were the ingredients to make the perfect little girls

we can roughly tell what the dragon looked like by looking at kyurem, because it's pokedex entry is "This legendary ice Pokémon waits for a hero to fill in the missing parts of its body with truth or ideals." and the missing parts were replaced by ice.

on one hand, i kind of like how we never got to see the complete dragon, it adds a layer of mystery and has an interesting end to the story. but on the other hand, i really hope we have some way to form the full dragon in the possible gen 5 remakes.

I always saw Kyurem as not being nothingness, but rather representing balance. This is partly because of it's typing, dragon/ice; ice types are strong against dragon types, but kyurem embodies both these opposing types.

Considering Unova was the first region NOT based on Asia, I think the Western alchemy inspiration is way more interesting and fitting. Plus like you said, the theories are pretty similar in a lot of ways, anyway. I really love Gen 5 lore... I was really happy to see a lot of connections in X/Y, with the whole ancient castle's garden being devoted to Unovan legendaries and implying N and Z are blood related (c'mon, even their names are similar) but I was sad they didn't expand more on that by maybe telling us more about the two kings and the original dragon.

This is why I love the tao trio. They're my favorite legendary trio, and the only one where I love all three of them equally. They're all in my top 20 pokemon.

That politics bit made me laugh XD Btw I just wanna share something: I had read somewhere that yes Reshiram was Yang, Zekrom was Yin and Kyurem was Wushi, and it came with a supposed actual story surrounding the Yin Yang, for there to be harmony specifically the 2 main Dragons needed to get along, Reshiram(Truth) on his side as Yang and Zekrom(Ideals) on his side as Yin, if the 2 were at peace than Kyurem could come and complete it, he would be able to align with them and so transform into his Black and White forms, which would be the little white circle in Yin(black) and the little black circle in Yang(White), however because of Zekrom/Yin/Ideals/Black and Reshiram/Yang/Truth/White constant fight to try to take over the other, Kyurem(Wushi) was left in his weaker form because he need them to get along in order to transform into his 2 more powerful forms and bring balance, so once he had enough he thought "if they are going to keep on fighting, I shall bring an end to everything and then there will be no one left to fight" and that's what Wushi is: the emptiness.

I just thought of something insane. What if the move Tri attack originated from this original dragon? Think about it, it's a move that either freezes, burns or paralyzes its opponent, it can only be done by a Pokémon with 3 heads(save for Type: Null/Sylvaly). It just adds up too well.

I'll note, of course, that Wuji isn't actually "empty" per se, but rather "limitless". Translating to "Without ridgepole", the Wuji is the transcendent energy, not merely the absence of Yin and Yang. There's a strikingly comparable concept in the Western mystical tradition as well. In Kabbalah, the Ein Sof, "without end", is unlimited and undefined(as defining something inherently limits it, separating it from all other things). Within the Ein Sof, the desire-to-create, the Ohr, Light-without-end, arises, and then Ayin and Yesh, which describe an Is/Is Not distinction. From these, the ten sephiroth or "emanations" reveal the Absolute to the material world. Kabbalah, mind, is not strictly Western, as the Hebrews were always essentially a fusion culture, but it was profoundly influential on Western mysticism and alchemy. The comparison with Tao is not one-to-one, but all things considered it's remarkably similar.

So Fire is passive and truthful, Electric is active and ideal, and Ice is what brings these two together.

There was an add halfway through while I was watching, right after he said "what di these creatures represent?" Apparently, they represent Stadia.

Regarding the active and passive, I kinda see both Reshiram and Zekrom as forces of change, then both being "active" (they are fire and electricity, both pure energy). The passive one would be Kyurem for me, since he is "ice", the lack of energy/passion. If the three of them were in front of a danger, I see it as Zekrom fighting, Reshiram flying and Kyurem standing.

The thumbnail and the whole Gen 5 designs made me think of something. Back at uni one of the professors (can't remember if he taught English or history) briefly showed us pictured of medieval books. One of them had a knight vaguely resembling the original plasma grunts and there was also a white dragon more or less resembling Reshiram.

The depth of Gen 5 box legendaries is amazing, if game freak needs story ideas for a black and white 3 send them my way!

You should have also mentioned that Zekrom was electric type, while electrons give a negative charge, while Resheram was a fire type, while fire gives heat energy (vibrating molecules) which is recorded as positive.

the active/passive is even in the stats, reshiram "passive" in its style of battle and its signature moves, is specially focused meaning beam attack and attacks that dont require movement, Zekrom is "active" in its batteling syle and its signature moves, and is focussed on physical attacks, like ramming or swiping and generally running right up to hit them

There is an additional origin that seems to fit pretty well with Zekrom and Reshiram. The Iroquois, a group of native tribes that live north of New York City, have a twin pair of gods: They are referred to as the Good Mind and the Bad Mind, Enigorio and Enigonhahetgea, Hahgwahdiyu and Hagwahdaetgah, and my personal preference, Odendonnia and Ohaa. The exact details differ between tellers, but the story basically goes like this: Either the woman who fell from heaven in the Creation story (Who was caught by a turtle, and used dirt to create the land) or her daughter was pregnant with twins. When the two were to be born, Odendonnia (The good mind) wanted to be born normally whereas Ohaa (The bad mind) wanted to leave his mother through her armpit; The two disputed and the result was that they were born but their mother died. Odendonnia ended up turning his mother's body into the sun and the moon, creating light. Ohaa was opposed to this, wanting the world to remain dark. Odendonnia was generous and benevolent, whereas Ohaa was cruel and destructive. This lines up with the lore, Reshiram and Zekrom were born from the destruction of the Original Dragon, where Kyurem is the leftovers. Said destruction happened because of a dispute between the two sides. The "children" thing also lines up with the alchemical essentials.

Also fire and electricity are related to plasma and there’s team Plasma. Also fire and electricity both produce energy. A lack of energy results in slower moving atoms and molecules which results in lower temperatures like Kyurem.
