FILM DESCRIPTION:
Adapted from author Philippa Gregory's historical novel of the same name, director Justin Chadwick's atmospheric period drama follows the fierce competition between sisters Mary (Scarlett Johansson) and Anne Boleyn (Natalie Portman) to win the affections of Tudor king Henry VIII (Eric Bana). Anne and Mary Boleyn are under pressure from their father and uncle to help maintain the family's rich legacy and ensure their further prosperity by winning the affections of none other than the king of England (Eric Bana). But life in the royal court is far different than it was in the countryside where these two sisters were raised, and before long their bid to earn the love of the king has transformed two once-happy sisters into bitter rivals. At first, it appears that Mary has triumphed in winning the king's favor by becoming his mistress and bearing him an illegitimate child. Despite her early success, however, Mary has underestimated just how clever and cunning her sibling can truly be. Not only does the relentless Anne manage to edge aside her sister in the eyes of King Henry, but she also succeeds in averting his gaze from his wife, Queen Catherine of Aragon, as well. Mary is driven by genuine affection for King Henry, while her sister Anne has only kept up the charade in a desperate bid to become the queen of England. Back then Henry VIII was supposed to be handsome. But then at some point during his marirage to Anne he had an accident and his legs were never the same, and he became uglier and uglier as the years went on.

yes , Henry VIII was said to be very hansome as a young man, he resembled his grandfather Edward IV- also known to be tall and handsome and both of them womanizers . thinking of it there are some parallels between the two men - both married against peoples wishes and both wives were commoners - except Anne Boleyn tore England apart to marry Henry.

I keep coming back to this movie! Whoever oversaw casting was ahead of their time, a star studded cast for such a tragic film. I think I always knew the actors were phenomenal!

Definitely a big character inaccuracy in this movie is how they play Mary Boleyn (Scarlett Johnasson) as a shy and blushing women when in fact Henry wasn't her only royal affair. Before Henry, Mary had an affair with Henry's rival King Francois I of France where according to him he called Mary "my hackney." For those of you who don't know what that is, the King was pretty much saying that she was fun to ride in bed. Due to that, the Queen of France had her deployed back to England. Thus, I have no doubt that by the time of Henry, Mary Boleyn wasn't a shy and blushful women, I would bet she was the exact opposite of that.

It's a shame he ended up being such a bastard because this is probably my favorite love scene in any film. I especially love the shot around 2:46 where Eric Bana is holding her. I don't know if it's the lighting, or the tenderness of it all, or the fact that Scarlet Johansson just has a beautiful body, but it's a beautiful shot.

Henry actually already had an illegitimate male heir Henry Fitzroy to his mistress Elizabeth Blount while he was married to Catherine. He acknowledged him with titles, land and money. His child with Mary he refused to acknowledge because he wanted to marry Anne. Though he did allow Anne to basically "adopt" Mary's children. He also had a legitimate male heir Edward by Jane Seymour, who became King at the age of 9 and died at 16. His half sisters Mary, became Queen for 5years and Elizabeth for 44

Just a little reminder the movie is based off of a book of the same name not history itself. The author wanted to write a story based around history that would play out a different scenario. By keeping pivotal moments she was able to creatively write a story from Mary Bullens perspective. She wanted to give a new take on a story told over and over again while giving more depth to a young woman who is only known for her 2 biggest mistakes and her marriage to a poor man she loved.

No remember Jane Seymore did have a son but he was really ill and weak. He died 6years later after his father's death. Then Mary was crowned and basically all hell broke loose. She died shortly after though and then Elizabeth was crowned and reigned for 44years. Her riegn was definitely the most famous in British history ^^

So did a few other of his mistresses. The movie and book "The Other Boleyn Girl" Is incredibly incorrect. While Mary was his mistress, he also had her married to someone else (first marriage, I mean. Not the second) so it was hard to say whether it was Henry's or her husbands, if he every thought of making her son his heir.
