The pepper plants did amazingly well in the old upcycled bin, so let's see how well it works for our cauliflower and a few other seedlings.
First, I cut the pepper plants back to ground level. Leaving the roots in the soil will allow them to break down over time, adding organic material to the soil that feeds the soil and makes it healthier. Healthy soil grows great plants!
Then I added a layer of compost I made with my chickens manure and old bedding. There were so many big, healthy worms in there!
After the compost layer, I added a bag of soil that I bought from my local nursery.
Finally, it was time to add our cauliflower and other plants. To be honest, I probably planted a few too many in that bed, but I needed to get them out of their seed trays. Once they were planted, I then watered them in very well to encourage good root growth.
In a month or so, we'll feed the soil with good fertilizer, and hopefully, we'll have a nice harvest in a few months.
