You got it right Dave, I agree, every memory I have of camping had rocks around the fire pit. It’s timeless. There is a lot of fire proof material you can use and it’s all good, but rocks around the fire pit with a cup of coffee, or a cold brew is perfection.

Thanks for the simplicity of this video. This is my first project on our property since my husband passed a year ago. We kept talking about getting to it, but his illness got in the way. I am finally at the point where I can continue where we left off from our plan. Just a part of the healing process now. I figure the fire pit will be done by his birthday in May. My Dave and I worked well together, a lot like you and Brooke do. Give God thanks everyday for that blessing. I still do, I thank Him we had it for almost 40 yrs together that way.♥

This is the most high-quality youtube tutorial I have ever seen. I love it. However, you do want to ensure the area around the circumference of the pit is inflammable in case any sparks fly out.

I've been making firepits out of rocks. Then one day I thought, I'm gonna get that little iron firepit that everyone in suburbia has, that I've been wanting. Eh. It collects water. The ash cover rusted in a few weeks. And then I stopped sitting by the fire. That thing wasn't as good as the rocks. Im going back to rocks and back to enjoying my fires. This is my favorite fire pit instructional ! Yesterday we kayaked to a spoiler island in the Gulf of Mexico. On the island was a stone fire pit that someone had crafted out of the natural limestone rocks from the beach. Our boys had a blast burning fallen pine tree branches. It made me realize it doesn’t take much to build a beautiful fire pit. It’s all about the memories and the people we love.

You know Dave's in shape when he doesn't bother to back the truck up right to the pit. Carrying the huge rocks 50 yards makes them more special. My new invention is a chimnea chimney thing that has a more open, more tactical , triangle type base so the fire light goes all the way around the ring , no one is deprived, they would be if you used one with the bulb base. Inside the smoke stack is a stove fan that continues to suck the smoke upwards. Sidenote: For my smaller backwoods camp stoves , I built an "Ikea Woodstove" out of a 10" cylindrical steel kitchen utensil holder. It has vent holes already. Three bucks online. What I do now is insert 1-2" thick kindling in VERTICALLY so the burn is far more efficient. Much less smoke. It's almost like a Swedish log . In fact you could insert a 6" log in it, split 4 ways, with the starter (birch bark, fatwood) in the middle. This creates a higher, brighter "flame tower". And if you have some good hardwood, will produce a blue flame. You can also sit really close to it, so adding wood is not a problem. You don't have to get up. Yeah the smoke game is hilarious though when an acoustic jam is going on . Then your guitar smells like pine ...

I've collected so many rocks over the years that they now line all my flower beds. I even made a walkway through one garden with rocks embedded in the soil with the flat side up. Most rocks have a flat side, so it worked perfectly. I was 30 yrs younger when I did it and I remember how rewarding it felt when I was done.

"There's no right way to build a camp fire pit." True, but I appreciate that you kept your fire ring low. I cannot say how often I have been off-roading, found the perfect camp site, only to find a fire ring that someone build up over two feet high, effectively blocking the heat from your legs. The ambiance is still great; but keeping those legs warm on a cold night is pretty nice too.

Love your videos. I built a small rocket stove out of some used fire bricks, and it it a great addition to heat water, cook beans, etc.

Your description of choosing and placing the rocks reminds me of the way my great grandparents used to build rock walls in rural Texas out of the rocks that they pulled out of the fields, in order to make the fields tillable. Good, honest, fulfilling work. Those rock walls that they build in 1880 are still standing today (except where the land was sold and developers knocked them down). Good video, I from time to time say " ya'll are welcome to my campfire" meaning you are inviting that person to share and be part of who you are. True I prefer rocks, but make sure you don't use limestone otherwise your peaceful and useful fire could turn into a adventure that's not all that safe.

Where we live now we have 300ft of sandy loam beneath us, nice and flat. I dug a 30" x 18" hole and lined it with lava rock that was salvaged from a deconstructed frireplace. I never cared for firepits that were never actually pits, they were fire rings placed above ground and surrounded by rock, steel, brick, etc. were often so tall that one could never feel the heat below the knees. Well, now I have my perfect fire pit.

Talk about a cathartic ASMR video.

from the small Adobe fire bowl at our house to the propane fire pit we take in our RV to the stone fire pit on our property, they all serve the same purpose. Slow down and tickle that primal part of our brains to stare into the flames and be calm. I personally enjoy the real wood fires myself, but any flame will do. Like you said, good friends/family and good memories. Really enjoying these videos on the new property. Looking forward to many more.

We bought this house 17 years ago, and the first thing I did was gather rocks and put in a fire pit. I’ve used it a thousand times. The garden is twice the size it started out between the chicken poop and the ashes. Sometimes I just burn old wood and listen to the night. A great way to spend a Saturday evening with my wife.

Built mine out of the limestone rocks that come out of the ground on my property on a very regular basis. There was a single cement slab, all by itself, right in the middle of my rather large backyard, no one knows why it's there, but I took one look at it, the limestone rocks that the previous owner had stacked neatly in a corner of the yard, and knew I had a firepit. It's been very popular, we've held a lot of events around that firepit. Great video, awesome job on your new pit, thanks for taking us along for the ride.
