"And may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest " is Shakespeare , so it refers back to the previous joke at the start (the only intimacy between her and Ashford) " this is not the modern novel ...I suggest you go in for shakespeare ". (and theres a smile) So , in the end she rejects Donne , and Ashford says goodbye using Shakespeare ..........But not the whole quote , because its a she . "“Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet prince; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ” (so naturally had to leave out "Prince" )

Honestly, for the last ~10 minutes, I just sobbed almost nonstop. And even now, as I'm writing this, I'm trying to make myself stop crying for the second time... It's so rare for me to find something that really, truly touches me like this did. The professor walking towards her room started the sobbing, and it continued for most of the credits. I hope y'all liked this movie as much as I did!

My supervising consultant in Head&Neck oncology suggested that I see this movie at the beginning of my course ... He said: We clinicians miss a lot of what patients "really" need and want, to the favor of what we "think" they need and want... And many patients suffer because of that ... He told me: this movie will open my mind to a different prospective, where a patient in palliative care is much more than a scientific tool ... He was right! A very moving performance... It got me in tears.. :'(

I watched a part of this movie when I was starting out in nursing school. I'm watching it again for my BSN class. I can't remember the last time I was struck so deeply by a movie. The impact is so profoundly moving and, sadly, so very accurate at times. We all like to blatantly deny, but the fact of the matter is that after many patients come and go, one can't help but become desensitized, callous, and even morbidly fascinated with the ailments and deaths occurring almost commonplace around you. While this career can help thousands, it could very well be at the cost of one's compassion, or even humanity. Obviously, it's not always the case. There are many doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers who strive for humane kindness being implemented in care. Yet, for every kind worker, there is one who is not so kind. I myself have seen nurses become accustomed to the sound of IV pumps beeping or bed alarms sounding, and some would just let them beep without a second glance. I've even shown some insensitivities in front of patients without even meaning to. BUT we can't forget the mission of health: to HELP humanity, not hurt them further.

One of my professors recommended this movie after I mentioned in a final exam in my first year that John Donne's words left me in awe of language. I'm about to graduate now. This is still one of my favourite movies. The beauty in words, the paradoxes of life, the hunger for knowledge, the value of a good teacher, the importance of humanity.

I first saw this in 2001 when l was suffering with an illness that would not be properly diagnosed and effectively treated for another eighteen months. Having made an all but total recovery but still dealing with peripheral issues, l can state unequivocally that viewing this sick and viewing this well gives the entire film layers of different meaning and resonance. Emma Thompson is brilliant.

I can understand the 15 (current) thumbs down. It's a thought-provoking, grave, sad, and painful journey of a disciplined, yet lonesome and fearful soul, who's heading down the dark path to a certain death. It brings us face to face with the reality of just how fragile and close to death we all are. However brilliantly handled the material (and it was), the sinning soul is afraid to die, and meet a holy God. ["Ah. Look at that. A little allegory of the soul; wherever it hides, God will find it."] "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:13 "And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." Luke 11:9

And when I hold teacher comes in and I just dropped down to the floor my heart is broken too for the only one who cares about her remember to see her in school that she taught at? Then to find out that she's in the hospital you know what a heart is that. It just tells us that will never be forgotten and we never nose impact we are not want so and other person's life I just give this movie a 10 stars,

Scary to think, isn't it? People have been losing sleep, fretting, obsessing over this same idea for centuries. It's a small consolation to think that, horrible as it is, that fear is the one thing we all share. A preoccupation with death is what we've all got in common.

Daniel Cambra Oooh, I'm not so sure that that's a good idea, when I saw this when I was around 17 and very depressed this film made me worse along with any other sad films. It made me see how fragile life was and how the only way to end pain is to end life. Mind you I'm grown up now and see it differently, but still every teen will view this film differently too.

I hear you, but I am very mindful of the discussions we have in class. And I am one of those annoying teachers that pause the movie frequently to ask or answer questions. Doing that breaks up the tension normally built by watching it uninterrupted. But I value your concern and insight.
@kiragoe
@kiragoe 9 жыл бұрын
Daniel Cambra Must you pause it. I can see it now all the students welling up at the scene where the professor visits her in hospital and you pause it, "So class can anyone tell me....." lol Mind you when you are down and depressed you really aren't in the mood to watch a cheerful film, when people say oh watch this it'll cheer you up, when you cannot relate to it at all unless it has a depressing undertone. Yes I suppose it would be better to just show melancholic films and discuss them throughout. I don't know I've never been to a troubled teen class nor do I know how they work.

I had to watch this movie for my English class, I am in a nursing program and most things we are doing are medical related. This movie moved me so much. In November, i lost my grandmother to a hard-fought battle with cancer. Everytime moment I saw my grandma's face and when Susie was with her I saw my own. I was the one explaining what the doctors were doing. I was the one standing my her through every treatment. I was the one who had care and compassion for her when the doctors only saw the numbers. I was the one who brought up palliative care when grandma "didn't want to be a bother" I honestly don't know how I am going to get through this paper.

At first was mad i had to watch this for class assignment, but as i looked over the assignment i understood the reason for it- communication and interpersonal relations within medical field.... then it changed everything for me... a lesson in humanity and bedside manner....brought me to tears, bravo, this should be a mandatory assignment for all within the medical world! Too many within the field forget the human component of what they do.

TT^TT this is a good movie but it gave me too many bad flashbacks to my relatives who died of cancer and I had to see the process in person.
