I think the only reason that I stick with 14" is because It normally doesn't have a numpad. I hate what numpad does to the keyboard! It squeezes it to the side, ruins the touchpad too (it's not centered anymore).

German pinguin, best pinguin! I'm not so much into the Polaris versions, as my laptop taste is minimalistic, so their InfinityBook series is what I buy.

Thanks for the review Ray, one point; (For me you make it difficult) What shall I do, the Polaris 15, or a Lenovo x1 carbon or System76 the Darter Pro. The choice is comprehensive.

Hello Jay, something that I miss from this review as well as your Stellaris review, is the level of fan noise while gaming. I purchased the Stellaris and was taken aback by the fan noise when playing Diablo 2 Ressurrected, it was like a plane was taking off in my room. Admittedly, I have never owned a gaming laptop before and I don't know if this is something to just simply expect with a gaming laptop, and if it is not even worth mentioning in a review. FYI, I got the 3070 in my Stellaris and I have heard it is harder to cool compared to the 3060.

Hey Orangejuice9000, while fan noise is measurable, it is a very subjective sensation. Even measurements with a db meter differ significantly depending on the distance to the device (and partly on the measuring device) and make an estimation difficult for the viewer. Just to give you a bit of an orientation: The TUXEDO Stellaris is an absolute high-end notebook and comes with the fastest graphics cards on the market. Your RTX 3070 is designed by NVIDIA to work with a huge maximum power consumption or Total Graphics Power (TGP) of up to 140(!) watts. If the CPU is also contributing a lot of heat, high fan speeds are needed to ensure proper cooling performance. However, you can do some optimizations: Especially games that don't need the full horse power of a 3070 can be played very effectively with a frame limiter (e.g. libstrangle or MangoHud on Linux or via the NVIDIA control panel under Windows). This lets the GPU and CPU run only as fast as they need for a certain frame rate and thus let them generate way less heat and noise. We are currently working on the implementation of CPU power limits in our TUXEDO Control Center. This will still take some time, but it will allow you to adjust the power consumption of the CPU. This is also very useful for gaming, as the CPU mostly runs much faster (and thus more power-hungry) than it have to resulting in no single fps more, because most games are limited by the GPU. Performance reduction may sound like a bummer at first glance, but please note: The 3070's official TGP range lies between 80 and 140 watts (including NVIDIA Dynamic Boost). That means the TUXEDO Stellaris comes with the fastest mobile 3070! Many competitors come with way lower TGP configurations of the 3070. So, with some lowering of the TGP, you're still on par with most other 3070 notebooks ;-) Furthermore: Performance tweaking in fact is pretty smart! You also have to keep in mind that performance does never increase proportionally to the power consumption. Not at all! That means that even with a significant reduction of the TGP by e.g. 20%, you do not lose nearly as much performance, but probably even less than 10%, which is hardly to not at all noticeable. With a lower TGP or TDP, graphics cards and CPUs work significantly more efficiently, which makes this optimization a very smart choice ;-) Hope that helps :-) Many regards, Chris | TUXEDO Computers

Would have liked to hear about webcam. For a long time Tuxedo been using crappy 1Mpix cameras. It appears to still be the case.

Hi,I have followed your instructions on Luks, and Lvm for Arch Linux Install.I could understand most of the instructions as to what they are doing. However,I am stuck with an issue.I am trying to have a setup where the luks partition can be unlocked using an USB key on boot rather than a passphrase.I read the Arch wiki about crypttab file, and setting the fstab file to pickup the usb disk during boot and a few other details. But some of the sections are going a bit over my head. Can you please make a video on this kind of setup.I have searched a few other git install instructions, but still not able to really understand what is going on.And so do not want to follow those until I understand what is actually happening. It will be really helpful if you can help with this.

It is a beauty. Be very aware though that this _is_ a gamer PC optimized for high Nvidia performance and less for Linux tinkering. The laptop display is wired to the CPU. The only HDMI output port is wired to the GPU. Entering a proprietary driver/optimus world of pain where one monitor is liable to fail and a 2-monitor setup becomes at least problematic, even in the original Tuxedo OS setup.

So, I'm hoping for clarification, is it not possible to reliably add a monitor to this laptop? That would be a dealbreaker if true. Is that a common problem with linux laptops in general, or just this particular one? Thanks for any clarification.

@@Fuegodeth @Stuart Wilson when I first started it, nothing tinkered with at all, there came a 'package operation failed' error. No idea, what package. Although both screens came up at this time in original Tuxedo OS. But there already were bizarre effects. The coolest was vlc playing a video on the laptop display. Pulling the window over to the other screen broke the playback. No matter, wanted my own custom distro anyway. All went down the drain, once next I started to try and boot from external DVD... Ooops! UEFI (inconvenient, expected though). Okay, external USB. Failed entering that boot process (my fault, hitting the wrong keys), starting Tuxedo OS a second time. Laptop display froze, monitor came up. Ctrl F1. Monitor went out. Laptop display came up. In essence: Given an X, all contact to the laptop display was lost, and reversed if given no X. Plugging off the large display, there was no monitor with an X at all. Even after reboot, even in unmodified Tuxedo OS. There is more, but this comment is a novel already. Tuxedo allowed for easy exchange to an Infinity Book though. No GPU, which also is a compromise, and no such trouble.

@@Fuegodeth P. S.: At your second question. I believe the core of the problem is wiring the HDMI output to the GPU, which makes sense, if you want the thing for fast graphic performance, as a gamer would. The software you are typically wanting to install for dual monitor with laptop display is called 'Optimus'. I have no valid experience here. A colleague, who has it, tells me setting that up and maintaining it, is 'no fun' though. Yes, that seems to be a Linux problem in general at this time (spring 2022).

@@markus-hermannkoch1740 Well, I've ordered one and a monitor so we'll see how it goes. I'm planning to connect it through the display port/USB-C output and I'm hoping that will give me less trouble overall.

@@Fuegodeth good luck, and consider keeping us posted! These are good computers with loads of performance for those who need it. I bought a luxurious Infinity Book G6, 15in, i7 11370H now, hit it with a nerd distro, and am quite happy with it. Even the Bluetooth plays nice with the Wifi, and man, is it fast! With the onboard integrated Iris graphics, afore-mentioned shenanigans are a thing of the past. All screens working as expected. 🤓

Both of those keyboards are abomination to 10-key users. a 3-row numpad? moving the 0 key over to make room for the right arrow? I'm sure these are just Clevo OEM'd devices, so you can't fault Tuxedo for it. But, god why even include a 10-key if they are like this.

In 2022 I bought a new notebook from tuxedo with tuxedo-Os for 1500 euro. I use Ubuntu since 2016 on desktop. This notebook is very complicated and they have a very bad support. They promote, that ubuntu is running on it. This is not true. I had a lot of problems with this notebook. No VPN running. I would not buy it any more.
