Can conflict be good? In this vital message for anyone seeking to transform their experience of conflict, Zab Vilayil demonstrates how a simple fundamental shift can help take our frictions with conflict from a place of nameless fear to possibility. Through vivid storytelling, this compelling narrative is anchored in a deep passion for building connections and informed by experience in conflict zones. Zab is an experienced Educator and Conflict Early Warning specialist. He is passionate about building bridges between communities, drawing insights from his upbringing in the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent. His formal education is further enriched by Harvard's Program on Negotiation. His innovative use of mapping technology in conflict zones spanned East to West Africa. His contributions have been instrumental in supporting organizations such as the U.S. Department of State, ECOWAS, and the United Nations, particularly in the realms of risk assessment and conflict transformation. He currently brings this experience to serve as Administrator of Community and Culture in a K-12 school in Lower Mainland, BC. Zab’s impactful initiatives have led to speaking engagements at venues such as the United Nations in New York and Google in Mountain View, California. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

The world would be a safer place if more of us would go to the balcony more often. Wise words. A unique life experience and wisdom that we can all learn from.

I never thought about conflict this way before. His story about the fireworks felt really relatable to me. Makes me wonder about my own ingrained reactions to things.

Ahh man I knew right from the beginning when he was saying he was scared of those fireworks that it would be because of some kind of war related trauma, that stuff is so sad but it was great to hear about his journey through all of that 💙💙
