The last line means that you don't want to really know how a trick is done. You don't want to know that the magician is literally committing suicide every night for your enjoyment.

Thats exactly it. Magic is so exciting and entertaining BECAUSE we don't know how it's done. Once the trick is revealed, the magic is gone.

This is pretty close to Christian Bale’s “real” accent. Not exactly the same but definitely the closest a character of his has ever been.

This isn't my favorite Nolan film, that would be Interstellar. However, I do think this is, even after seeing Oppenheimer, Nolan's best film he's ever done. It is literally just so absolutely perfect. The kind of story being told, the way it's being told, the acting, the script. Nolan has always had a bit of a clunky exposition problem and it is non-existent here in this film. Every single word is where it's supposed to be, it's purposeful, and it's the right word for the job. Some films explain things that should remain unexplained. Some movies over explain things where a better script could have done it more fashionably. That's what this script does. Everything that requires exposition is done so so fashionably. It's a masterpiece. I'm sorry Meg, but some tricks require a curtain or a cloth. The whole point is to be mystified. If you do tricks in the open that need to be hidden, it takes away the magic. Some don't require being hidden and rely on slight of hand like card tricks. Some rely on other methods to be hidden like two way mirrors or some other optical illusion. Others HAVE to be covered. Like Borden said, "The secret impresses no one. The trick you use it for, is everything." If you just have no curtain than you'll just see Julia untie her hands, open up the trick lock, climb out of the water tank, and stand next to it all ta-da. That's not fun to watch for the overwhelming majority of people. If you put it behind a curtain for 60 seconds and the next time you see her she's just standing next to the tank, then your mind gets to imagine all the ways she could have done it. Angier's last line is, "It was the look on their faces." That looks is what magicians live for. If you show them the trick being done, how it's done, then that look vanishes.

There's a theory that Jackman at the end was still alive in the tank as you see an air bubble very briefly in the last shot since earlier in the film we see he had been trying to hold his breath longer.

The last line makes more sense when you think back about Sarah's reaction to learning about the gun trick from Borden. She said its pretty simple once you know the trick, implying that we as the audience in any case, a movie, a TV show, or a magic trick, as much as we want to understand the trick, in reality don't want to know how the trick is done.

hiding how she escapes has nothing to do with not wanting to give her credit. Its the difference between magic and just watching someone escape. You arent supposed to see that the magician is really skilled, your supposed to wonder "how is that possible". Seeing her escape, while impressive, would ruin the trick.

That’s David Bowie, the musician, playing Tesla. He had a head injury defending a girlfriend in school and for the rest of his life one of his pupils was always completely dilated. That’s probably what you thought the heterochromia was; his eyes are just like that and they’re so freaking cool!

I think if you watch the movie back it's pretty obvious that Fallon is Bourdain's twin brother. He always talks of sacrifice and that's because he's referring to the fact that he and his twin switch lives and live forever in secrecy. It's also definitely a cloning machine because the final shot is showing all of the deaths Angier went through for the trick. It's kind of a cruel irony that if Angier wasn't so egotistical he could have worked together with the clone like Bourdain worked with his twin but he didn't want to share the glory.

We also don’t know if Angier is a clone or the original. The original Angier might have died long ago.

The last line is symbolic of the audience's realization that Danton has been committing suicide every single night, "now you're looking for the secret, but you won't find it because you're not really looking, you don't really want to work it out, you want to be fooled". Up until that point there are heaps of signs of what Danton has really been doing but most of the audience haven't figured it out because they're not really looking, they're invested in the story (the trick) Also the Borden Fallon reveal is literally a magic trick, think about it Act 1: The Pledge Borden is arrested at the start of the movie Act 2: The Turn Borden is executed Act 3: The Prestige Borden appears in front of Danton Even though it is explained later for a brief moment the audience thinks Borden has somehow survived, if you rewatch the movie there are heaps of give always that Fallon is Borden's twin, but on a first watching you don't see them, you want to believe that Borden has survived rather than the truth that Fallon is a twin & Borden really did die. Danton's last words explain what the movie was trying to do. "The Audience knows the truth, the world is simple, miserable, solid all the way through, but if you could fool them, even for a second, then you could make them wonder, then you got to see something very special, you really don't know, it was the look on their faces".

It was my understanding that he killed his clones because the real cat and the clone cat where fighting each other when he found them amongst all the cloned hats. In other words, he realised his clone(s) would fight with him.

I think the idea is that being a twin is so simple no one could figure it out (its also used by real magcians through the ages, so it fits). Telsa, being the password was just a distraction, a wild goose chase after seeing him at the great exhibition. He had no idea Telsa could actually build such a thing. If Telsa had actually built one already, he could have just built another machine straight away but we see him wrestling with the science and not understanding how it works which shows he's never done anything like this before

oh course the best way Angier could have dealt with this is to make a clone of himself once and say "Hey mate shall we take it in turns to have the prestige?" "No way I was thinking the same thing, yes lets do it?" "Right? its so must better than the other plan" "Yeah and unlike the actor double we won't mess up because we're the same" *BANG BANG* "haha sucker"

the reason why borden gave the name tesla to angier is so to send him away to waste his money on his "secret" (and also to save his twin)... i dun think borden had known than tesla actually could make a duplicating machine...

The Tesla machine was supposed to be a teleporter. It was supposed to move you somewhere else. The problem with teleporters is that reassembling something on the other end doesn't require you to destroy the original being teleported. So the first time Tesla demonstrated it, he was disappointed because the hat stayed where it was, it didn't get destroyed. That is why he tried it with the cat. He thought that a living being won't be duplicated, due to its soul. But he just ended up with 2 cats.

As for telling his wife, he tried to tell her at the start. When they were doing the catch a bullet trick. But she answered: When you know how it's done, it's not so impressive. That answer is the reason why he kept it a secret from her.

@DaveF.
@DaveF. 7 ай бұрын
@@eddhardy1054 Because that's what happens. Before he is cloned Angier stands on a trapdoor over a water tank. Then he is cloned and the trapdoor opens and he falls into the tank and drowns. It's never been clear to me what he meant when he said he wasn't sure about if he or the clone drowns - perhaps he's talking about what he would think/feel after the act. But clearly, every night it's the original angier who stands on the trapdoor and falls in the water tank. The only alternative is that Tesla's machine not only duplicates - but teleports the subject first, then duplicates a copy back to the original location. That seemsa stretch.
@eddhardy1054
@eddhardy1054 7 ай бұрын
@@DaveF. Think about what you've just said. Angier can only commit suicide once. After that the Angier who drowns each night must be a clone...also maybe Tesla's machine does duplicate & teleport?
