When Westley said "As you wish", he meant "I love you". Notice the grandfather said "As you wish", to his grandson, to close the film.

This movie was made before CGI and special effects so, yes, I've always loved how they made no attempt to hide the fact that the ROUS was just a man in a rat costume.

CGI existed (Tron was 1982), but but it cost a lot. You're still right though. Even the worst practical has more character.

It also helps that everything we see is supposed to be from the mind of a child imagining what everything looks like while the story is being read to him. Hence how we ended up with quicksand that is instant, royalty all wearing absurdly oversized crowns, a person sitting down to shake pebbles out of their boot and some of them being nearly the size of your fist, etc... It isn't just a fantasy movie, it is fantasy exaggerated to silly proportions

Inigo gave the 6 finger man a blow for every wound he took before. Not just the cheek scars He even stabs him in the left chest and right bicep, after he was stabbed there after being hit with the dagger. And his finishing blow was where the dagger hit.

During the filming of the Cliffs of Insanity scene, when the were winched up an artificial cliff (the scene was a composite of this, real cliffs with dummy figures and models) Wallace Shawn, who played Vizzini was really worried because he was scared of heights and he thought he might ruin the film. As the started being winched Andre the Giant could tell that something was wrong. He looked down at Shawn, stroked his head and said “Don’t worry, I’ll look after you, I’ll look after you.” From that moment on Wallace Shawn was fine and they completed the day’s filming without incident.

This movie is for everyone boys and girls it is such a great movie. This movie is based on a book. The writer of the book also wrote the script of the movie . The scene with Westley and the six finger man when the six finger man hit him in the head was real and the actor who plays Wesley had to go to the hospital. here was real spark between the main actors in real life Westley and Buttercup that's why it works. Andre the giant used his big hands to protect Robin Wright (Buttercup ) head when she was cold on the set. You should also see Wilow, Lady Hawk, The Never Ending Story and The Labyrinth 1986. This is one of the movies with an epic soundtrack like Conan The Barbarian or Highlander which you should also see. one of my favorite quotes from this movie "“We are men of action, lies do not become us.”"

This film is a delight in every way and I love it uncritically. Yes, parts of it are a bit cheesy but for those of us who grew up watching it, that's just part of its charm. The rat costumes were not... brilliant. Eh, it's a choice. Inigo and Westley were clearly fighting on a sound stage rather than the ruins of some ancient castle. I'm OK with that. Director Rob Reiner clearly enjoyed and respected the fantasy-romance-adventure genre and that's how he was able to have fun with it so successfully without mocking it. Right across the board, the cast is excellent but I want to give special thanks to Billy Crystal as Max and Carol Kane as Valerie. They only have a few moments of screen time but they are simply magical. Thank you for sharing this with us and I look forward to your next upload.

It WAS cheesy - but that was deliberate and part of the comedy. The cinematography was also superb: the director really knew his job. Cary Elwes (Westley) wrote a book (called "As You Wish") on the making of the movie. Its an excellent read. When Count Rugen (actor Christopher Guest - a REAL English aristocrat!) hit Westley with his sword hilt, he was originally not convincing because he didn't want to hurt Cary Elwes. They had to re shoot the scene and Cary told him to actually hit him. He accidentally did it too hard and knocked him out for real. That was the take they used. When Cary slumped unconscious after the hit, he wasn't acting!

Glad you like the relationship The Man in Black and Inigo have, especially the "sword-gasm" each one of them has. 😉😛 Now, as far as you identifying The Man in Black as Westley, you're able to do so because you're WATCHING THE VISUAL DEPICTION OF A BOOK; anybody hearing the story read to them will have only their imagination to conjure up "who's who."

In real life Andre The Giant would not be able to lift his own body one inch off the ground. Serena Williams said she can't do a single pull up. The strongest guy in the world can only do a handful of pull ups. When you have a lot of body weight it's hard to lift off the ground.

Andre in particular was in terrible pain during the filming of this movie. As Cary Elwes (Wesley) recalls, "He was dealing with pain from a back operation from all the punishment he took in the ring." Andre's pain was so intense that he couldn't even do many of the stunts. "He told me that because he was a giant, in the ring wrestlers felt that they didn't have to hold back and would smash chairs on his neck and things like that," Elwes remembered. He also suffered from acromegaly, a hormonal disorder that develops when your pituitary gland produces too much growth hormone during adulthood: He had constantly increasing bone mass in the bones of his hands, feet and face, causing debilitating health issues. On the scene with Wesley on his back, Elwes had to be completely supported by cables, Andre's back couldn't take the slightest amount of weight. He endured with grace and smiles, and had a heart as big as he was. RIP Andre.

4:00 It's the fairly standard quasi-medieval 'fantasy' setting. 5:05 The little guy is Wallace Shawn, he has been in many things where they needed a small actor. The giant was a former wrestler called Andre the Giant. sadly his Gigantism lead to health problems, at is often does, and he died at age 46. 5:40 They just told you their plan, they are going to kill her and leave her body on the border so the two countries go to war.

Great video! And I wouldn't worry too much about subtitles on this one. I'm pretty sure most people who have seen this movie have probably done so several times, and can quote it from memory :) If you want to see another great movie with Robin Wright (Buttercup) as the supporting actress, you should absolutely watch Forrest Gump, if you haven't already. It stars Tom Hanks and won six Academy Awards including Best Picture in 1994. It is as much a classic as this - even moreso depending on who you ask. It does kinda do a tour through contemporary U.S. history through the involvement of the main character, so some of the references might be lost on someone who isn't from here, but it's still amazing regardless. Cheers!
