Westley (Cary Elwes) chases Vizzini (Wallace Shawn) as they climb a rope up the Cliffs of Insanity, but Vizzini cuts the rope before Westley reaches the top.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on William Goldman's novel of the same name, The Princess Bride is staged as a book read by grandfather (Peter Falk) to his ill grandson (Fred Savage). Falk's character assures a romance-weary Savage that the book has much more to deliver than a simpering love story, including but not limited to fencing, fighting, torture, death, true love, giants, and pirates. Indeed, The Princess Bride offers a tongue-in-cheek fairy tale depicting stable boy-turned-pirate Westley's journey to rescue Buttercup (Robin Wright), his true love, away from the evil prince (Chris Sarandon), whom she had agreed to marry five years after learning of what she had believed to be news of Westley's death. With help from Prince Humperdinck's disgruntled former employee Miracle Max (Billy Crystal), swordsman Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin), and a very large man named Fezzik (Andre the Giant), the star-crossed lovers are reunited.

And a nightmare backstage after he made it. Wrestlers had to legit hide from Andre lest they be forced to watch the movie for the billionth time that day. He was like a kindergartener showing off a picture he drew to everyone. The alternative was turning him down, and unless you were either Harley Race or Haku/Meng, you did not have the courage to risk Andre's hurt feelings.

He once chased down some turds who'd been heckling and throwing things at him in a bar, caught up to them as they got in their car, and flipped it over with four people inside of it. Hulk Hogan spent their entire 'Mania 3 match worried about Andre going into business for himself, because if Andre decided he didn't want to lose, there was nothing Hulk could've done to stop him.

You can tell that this wasn’t Andre when they first started. The size difference in him and Inigo wasn’t very much. They had to bring in another Giant because Andre’s back was so bad, he couldn’t bear anyone’s weight. They even put Buttercup on wires and lowered her into his arms at the end. He couldn’t even carry a 100lb woman. Poor guy, he lived with such pain.

Behind the Scenes Wallace was afraid of the climb and Andre assured him that he wouldn't drop him. That sweet moment makes this scene even more hilarious, because although he knows Wallace is just acting, the yelling probably made Andre reconsider it.

It always cracks me up that Vizzini is so much of a jerk, that he's shouting in Fezzik's face about firing him, even though he's totally dependent on Fezzik for his survival here. Also, I just noticed for the first time that He started cutting the rope before Fezzik was finished climbing up. That's cold! O_o

Probably the most Inconceivable thing that has happened to me is one time I was getting gas and having a conversation with a friend that was riding with me and it came to a point where Inconceivable would have been an appropriate response to something said and I said it in my best impersonation of the movie voice. After saying it from the other side of the pump I heard in a very distinct voice "hey that's my line" yes Wallace Shawn was getting gas at the same gas station on the other side of the pump and I hadn't seen him before using the line in a conversation.

"Inconceivable" means "unbelievable." Literally, "cannot be conceived of" or "I would never have imagined that!" So, he's using it correctly.

You can argue it both ways. If it’s synonymous with “impossible!” Then it would simply be hyperbole. Though, if taken literally it could be seen as incorrect as it’s not impossible at all for a person to climb a rope quickly or to stop themselves from falling.

Both would be hyperbole in this instance, but they are still different. Inconceivable doesn't mean the same thing as unbelievable. Unbelievable means your brain gets information that for some reason you cannot or do not want to believe. Inconceivable means something that wouldn't ever even enter your thoughts.

The book says that's where his true strength is. "His real might was in his arms." They were strong and they never got tired. He could chop down a whole forest, and even if his legs gave out or if the axe broke, his arms would still be fine.

It's more like unimaginable. It's too strong a word to be using for this type of situation. The things he's describing are hardly impossible to imagine.

Thinking back, what was Westley going to do if he caught up to them? Yank Buttercup away from them? What if Fezzik tried to kick him? I’m just not quite sure, how well this plan was thought through.

I’m now imagining that, Westley being Westley, he would climb over/past them and wait for them at the top. That, or slow down once he’s just behind/below them and converse since they’re unlikely to be skilled in fighting on a rope while climbing it.

I think Wallace says inconceivable 8 times in the movie, and the next time he says it after "he didn't fall?" is in the field after the sword fight scene when seeing Wesley coming meaning he won the sword fight

I just saw it on an actual theater screen for the first time last Sunday and despite its age it remains a wonderful movie. I even managed to catch bits of dialog regarding the prince's plot with Buttercup that I've somehow missed all these years. Now nearly everything makes sense. The only thing missing that I'd like to know is how Westley knew about Buttercup's kidnapping so quickly and both how and why he pursued her in such a small boat with no other crew. It's not important but it is odd.

@@blazerocker1734 a little late, but that's the point. "The man in black" or Wesley is supposed to be a walking Zoro parody. He's meant to be this supernaturally skilled protagonist. Of course, they manage this in the climax by having him waste all his strength beforehand. Making what would normally be a pretty easy victory actually an intense challenge

He didn't fall, because Westley probably clung to the rocks right as the last person got over the cliff knowing they'd cut it, and that cut rope would likely fall out that fast even without anybody on it.

Maybe this line was added because a proofreader said that to a writer in an early treatment. And then it was decided to put it in the script itself (being told about the words definition).
