it's legal to have/use tobacco products as a minor, it's just illegal to buy them. she was NOT caught actually smoking, she said she was going out for a smoke break, doesn't mean she was actually smoking. and not being allowed in school and being illegal to have in school are two different things.

When I was in High school (between the years 1988-1991) YOu get caught for smoking cigarettes, it was an automatic 1 day suspension. I do not smoke, but a classmate smoked and he got caught smoking on school grounds 4 times in one year.

All public schools are a tobacco free zone and if you live in the state of Connecticut the law states that tobacco products are prohibited on school grounds whereas in the state of Texas alcohol is prohibited on school grounds
