To be honest with you, if any one of those girls was my daughter and that was the worst thing they did all year, as a parent, I would probably think that I should be getting an award. Two central office detentions just for asking another student for an answer after the teacher apologized, or for just saying 'bye' to your friend? Give me a break...

Most schools read Beowulf translated in modern English. Modern English isn't the English we speak today, it is what Shakespeare spoke. They translate it into modern English because the original version is in old English which is practically unrecognizable as English today.

I do believe the teacher should have been in the meeting (although I'm sure the principal spoke with the teacher at some point) to explain the her side of the story because the girls explained the situation in such a way to make them sound like they did nothing wrong. I am more prone to taking the teachers side though, I have stood in front of high school classes and it can get unbelievably frustrating, especially when you get these little cliques who team up and test your patience. ugh

you know, I have watched this video about 20 times, but I can not really understand why Chelsea got into any trouble. Okay, maybe Nicole and Erica should have kept their mouths shut and not interfered, but Chelsea basically got ignored by the teacher and asked another student for help and got 2 central office detentions for it. And honestly, I don't think Nicole or Erica should have gotten detentions just for petty things like that. If I was in Chelsea's situation, I would have probably done the same thing, if I didn't say something to the teacher first

When I was in sophomore high, I had this one kid I knew since 4th grade in my American Lit class, and he was very problematic. Some days, he would get so out of hand my teacher would surrender him to security. I tried to keep myself from laughing every time because I knew this was absolutely serious. Even so, I never heard of "buying swampland in Florida" although I read what tonytueb said about that.

@tonyrueb Actually modern English is not what many people think it is. Romeo and Juliet is written in modern English, though many think it is in old English. Old English is almost unrecognizable to regular English speakers, because there are almost no words that are true to the English that we use now.

A girl didn't understand what she was reading and the teacher ignores her. She asks someone else for help, and that equals a suspension! Meanwhile there are kids who curse and throw things at teachers everyday, and they may hardly ever get the punishments they deserve! It's just infuriating!

Dude sometimes teachers just do crazy shit. I remember one time in seventh grade we usually had like 5 mins. to get ready to prep our instruments in orchestra (mainly because we were waiting on the teacher) so the teacher is not ready so people just sit near their friends and talk b/c we did not know what was going on. Everyone is told to get back in their spots and I guess one person does not hear it and he gets a detention. Then, the teacher asks him where is his music and he says right there (as he points to the stand) after which she tells him second detention. He gets upset and asks why and she gives him another one. She filled out a detention form and everything. This woman was crazy I had a similar incident she told me to go to the principal's office instead of that I pretend to and just hide in the bathroom, go to the library talk to my friends, and come back and she notices nothing. I never understood why when told to go to the principal's office people actually go b/c some schools the teacher never knows your punishment/if you went.

I think that the assistant principal has a valid point. When a teacher has an issue with a student himself or herself. The other students should stay out of his or her business. Those juniors are hurting themselves by arguing with the teacher and nosing into his or her business. I felt that Mr. Tague handled the situation respectfully by taking those students into his office, reading the disciplinary referrals to him, and discuss that issue. Although the student whom get an argument with a teacher detention and she can seek tutoring after school after she served her detention.

So they got two detentions for that?! Give me a break, if that principal is assigning that on the basis of disrespect to a teacher, that's ridiculous (unless the girls aren't being truthful). If I was their parent, I would appeal that and dig deeper; does this teacher have a history for excessive low-grade writeups? Do the girls have a disciplinary history? I would appeal to principal to throw out the detentions over the case that the case did not reach a threshold to discipline under his reasoning. If he's a hardass, next stop is the superintendent and the school board. This principal (as well as the Wills Point principal) seem veryyyyyyyy abrasive.

@tonyrueb There is no need to be snippy. Apparently, the facts that I DID check, were wrong. I apologize for that, although the rest of it is still the same. Modern English is not the English we speak today, but rather the English of Shakespeare. That being said, it is no surprise to me that she had a hard time reading it, as many people have a hard time reading Shakespeare even in their adult years.
