The original 'The Prisoner' had charm and wit and humor and a point to make. This series has none of those things. The new series just wanders aimlessly for hours in the desert and random stuff just happens. Why was this series even made?

Although I cheer a new interpretation of a familiar story, as I always will and valiantly attempt to quash the inner critic when confronted with something totally unexpected, I tried very hard to appreciate this rendition of The Prisoner. Some parts I liked. I admit it. But, there was a profound vision operating in the 1968 version that formed a foundation to all the actions and peculiar behaviors; it galvanized everything, brought everything together. You had to be patient for this alchemy to work, yeah, but it was worth it. I liken it to taking the time to appreciate a profound poem; in this case, a cinematic poem, like Tarkovsky's Stalker or Kubrick's 2001, among many others, whose inner truth or identity isn't revealed immediately. This alchemy, and this may just be me, didn't manifest for me in this rendition. It's seemed chaotic, randomly so, lacking a through-line.

Save 5 hours of you life and watch the original 1960's version. Not even Sir Ian McKellen could save this soulless tedious mess.

This remake of the 1960's series (starring Patrick McGoohan who was known only as Number Six) is on occasions even more convoluted than the original and some critics were scathing about it. I, on the other hand, enjoyed it so much I bought the DVD set. (I also have the original on DVD, and The Champions, another favourite of mine.) One episode in particular features (Jim Caviezel) Six as a schoolteacher, instructing his pupils in the skills of social surveillance. I think that phrase deserves an exclamation mark in today’s climate so here it is !. As with the original, there’s a huge amount of symbollism in the remake with day to day life being governed by (Ian McKellan) "Two" who controls “The Clinic”. Hmmm,.... Overseeing everything are the unknowns who exist in the twin towers which can never be reached. Throughout the series almost everyone knows only of The Village. There is no other place. Six, however, has flashbacks to a place he calls New York. Others have similar flashbacks and all are known as Dreamers who are resultantly sent to the clinic for “treatment”. Those whose minds cannot be completely manipulated are sent to “the tunnels”. New arrivals in The Village are questioned by Six who asks if they’re really new here. They say they are and Six asks where they came from if The Village is the only place. They respond that he’s being ridiculous, already seeming to have lost the power of individual reasoning. The series culminates with The Village existing only in the mind of the one person who does not have a number. That said, it still affects the lives of virtually everyone.

If you can find a way to view AMC's accompanying 12-part Motion Comic series, please share! I used to be able to find the first one or two chapters but no luck at all these days... There's also the DC Comics gn (readcomiconline.to/Comic/The-Prisoner ) and I *just* discovered this, thanks to you: readcomiconline.to/Comic/The-Prisoner-2018

I really wish Patrick McGoohan had agreed to take the part of the old prisoner (number 6) at the beginning of this new series, I know he wanted a bigger role, like that of an old number 2, but like everything he did, he would have been amazing even if only for a few minutes! Never mind, not to be I guess, perhaps we will see him again with a bit of CGI magic?! Who knows..... Be seeing you!

Doomed to fail from the start. You can't remake a cult classic. That's the problem with television today no originality - which is why I resigned!

Nothing resembling the original, couldn't get through the 1st episode. Its like someone found the Box that the prisoner was in and filled it with a vanilla flavored Soap Opera. A movie from McGoohan's original Bible, story, and scripts with Ian McClellan and Daniel Craig as #6 would do justice to the original.

Frank Kafka meets Metaphysics and RUINS a lot of good acting/ sets / cine- photography in the process. Almost like some Great Sci-Fi being attempted by heathens in CA - “ add ENOUGH Good Actors “. I read 4 written stories on this - it wouldn’t have left audiences hanging or scratching their heads if the included a ton of written-out script & History. PS- I was fortunate enough too- to be Forewarned that THIS Series has Nothing compared/ interest in Patrick M’s one!

The original concept was based on the idea "What do you do with a spy who resigns." He knows too much that would have been of value to your adversaries.

Just different. The original is a hoot but definitely gets exhausting to most people pretty quickly, even those who fondly remember it may find it tiresome after a couple episodes. This is more middlebrow, less ambitious, but also less hammy and showboating. Not sure yet, but i don't think it quite deserves the bad reviews.

I came across this when i was randomly watching movie recaps kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nNuVocietp23e2Q.html I searched and searched until I found this... Thank You So Much!!! I thought I seen it before but didn't remember until episode 3 looked interesting and is something similar to what I have been going through for a long time... The memories I have from my childhood and past I ask or mention to family and or partner never happened or we never been or visited certain places or certain events or conversations never happened but i have memories of certain things that they say never occurred or didn't occur the way i remember them occuring.. doing things, going places, witnessing certain things, remembering childhood shows spelled a certain way or looking different.. my life feels like it's always da ja vu like I've lived it before or seen certain things in dreams or visions and them being about 70% give or take accurate... I don't know what is real or what really happened i have memories of stuff but I guess they are memories of someone else's life... I started thinking after awhile they were events and memories of me in another dimension or something... Idk they think im crazy and or i don't remember anything... I remember several certain things then everything else is just blank like my memories were wiped and few things were preselected... Memories of the past, present and future... 🤔😔🤨😶‍🌫️🫥
