I'd never try to deny that American hoopers (and basketball in general) lead the way. But, in recent years, the rest of the world is catching up, and it's in a lot of ways due to our development system here in the States. Here are my thoughts.

Born and raised in the US, the other countries have surpassed us, especially in tacitly. In the US, people always care more about the ooo’s and ahhhs of having a bag and hitting tough shots. Just look at Jokic, people are bored of him because it’s not really flashy, yet the man nearly never makes a mistake.

Jokic is one person. We won last Olympics without our top 5 best players attending. No country has caught up to a team with Bron Curry Kawhi KD etc. If you're going to hate on certain fellow countrymen at least use facts

@@BigA678 When did i say anything that was not factual? Did you even read my comment? Other countries have surpassed the US when it comes to schemes and tactical strategies in basketball. Just look at last summer’s fiba, the USA team had more than enough talent to win yet didn’t? Furthermore i was never “hating” on my fellow countrymen, i never even mentioned anyone American specifically?

Internationally they focus on the fundamentals way more. In the states, I see kids who don't have passing, dribbling and shooting down yet they are trying behind the back passes, crazy dribble moves or over dribbling and shooting all these threes and they have terrible form and can't even hit the mid range consistently.

AAU coaches are just about winning by getting the best players so their”program” can look good and get more money for the coaches. While overseas the coaches are developing the players and playing the right way to win games

Jokic, embiid, Shai, luka Gianni's... You could easily argue those are the top 5 in basketball right now period then there's probably 10 American players after that. But then you go right back with about 6-8 foreign players. Once the best players from the 2000s retire, it's over

In my opinion is mostly individualism. I like to watch old games, there aare a lot on youtube, specially on olimpics youtube channel. And the main difference is obvious. Theres too much individualism (some escape it like jokic) that is almost we are not looking at a team. Even highlights, most of it are dunks. It looks cool, unless a team is already losing for 30 points...

It’s simple, we’ve stopped practicing the fundamentals and our players play WAY too many games. By the time they’re in the league they have the knees of a 36 year old at 19. We’re only one sport specific. Using those constant muscles will bring on more injuries.

The whole "AAU is ruining basketball" is becoming hog wash. They say international players are catching up, well a big chunk of these international players are from Canada..Guess what? RJ Barrett, Shai Gilgeous, Jmal Murray, etc all played AAU. It's more become an issue of more players around the world love to hoop, which is a good thing

I am European and I don't understand this narrative. USA is still the best basketball country in the world. The only reason Jokic, Doncic, Giannis exist is because they wanted to be like the NBA players they grew up watching. The individual talent in the US is so insane that it makes up for the lack of IQ of some players. Both US and rest of the world have problems. The US focuses too much on the individual and not on team basketball or IQ. In europe, it's the exact opposite (not enough focus on individuality). It's only when both "merge" that you get Jokic, Durant, Doncic, Lebron...high IQ players with incredible skill. Big fan of yours man, KEEP IT UP BROTHER!

I find one of the problems are with how competitive youth leagues have become. It’s hard to find a team unless your child is very high level already. These leagues simply want to build their brands to make $$$ rather than kids playing sports to learn and grow. Most leagues in my area are $300 dollars a month or more. It’s getting ridiculous. These 5-6 year olds already have personal trainers

It comes down to fundamentals and teaching players situational basketball. Not enough pickup basketball is played. I see a lot of you tube content where trainers have headlines like develop a "kyrie handlle"or shoot like Steph. Sounds good if you're advanced. You must master basic fundamentals and then you add layers. Teaching players to advance the ball with the pass how to set and come off screens. Also players are a product of their environment.
