Video: In this video I’ll tell you the proper way to use a wrist blood pressure cuff. Kevin Garce here, for more blood pressure videos like this one, click the subscribe button and the bell icon. This video has all the topics covered, including how to make sure the height of your chair and table are correct, how to sit, position your arm and elbow, how the cuff should be wrapped around your wrist, the tightness and its height. The monitor I’m using is the Omron gold series, always check your instruction booklet for tips specific to your monitor. First make sure to avoid all caffeine, exercise, smoke or bathing 30 minutes before measuring and don’t eat during that time. In addition, make sure your bladder is empty and quietly rest for 5 minutes before measuring. Wear short sleeves so you don’t wrap the cuff around clothing. The chair you use should have an upright back support, the height from the top of the chair to the top of the table ideally should be 12” but anywhere from 10 to 14” is okay. Sit down with your legs uncrossed, feet flat on the floor and back supported. Wrap the cuff around your wrist with the monitor facing you, the top should be about 1/2 an inch from the crease of your wrist, the cuff should not cover the bone that protrudes on the other side of your wrist and the cuff should be tight enough so there’s no air gaps between the cuff and skin....

I just ordered one of these and my main interest is heart location. I can't go by any images of heart location because they seem to vary from patient to patient. So hopefully this blood pressure monitor will help. A great instruction video indeed.

I own this wrist cuff. My readings are consistently between 95/60 and 125/85 as long as I follow the instructions here. My main goal in testing is to make sure I'm not in a hypertensive crisis, so even if these readings are a bit high or a bit low, they are unlikely to be so off that my BP is over 180. It's also MUCH less painful than arm cuffs and so I'm more eager to test at home, which I consider a good thing.

Which is the right way to use a cuff BP machine?? Resting on the table? Or across your chest!?
@bloodpressureexplained4609
@bloodpressureexplained4609 2 жыл бұрын
With a wrist monitor? The recommendation is to rest your elbow on a table with the cuff at heart height. If that can't be accomplished or accomplished comfortably, then keep it across your chest with the cuff at the same height as the heart.

My problem with this video is that, although extremely detailed, you never mentioned which arm to put the cuff on. As a matter of fact, the instruction picture shows it on her lft arm and your demonstrator uses the rt arm. That should have been mentioned as I know the pressures can be different in each arm.
@bloodpressureexplained4609

Hi Donald. There is no one set answer and which arm to use varies from person to person. The American College of Cardiology recommends to measure BP on the arm/wrist which measures higher. I have a video explaining more: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/praSg7iWx7qxZ4k.html

Can't you simply put your monitor to your chest right next to your heart. Doesn't this fix any problems with the type of chair, angle of arm, and all the other factors you talk about? You could be in a recliner and just put your monitor next to your chest and relax...
