We're year round. One of my top pros for this is taking extra time off while someone in the family is sick. Nobody wants to do (or teach!) school when they don't feel good. And our illnesses never seem to last any less than a week or so. I hated having to go to school when I was sick which was any time I didn't have a fever. I feel so blessed I can do this for my family.

School year round because we are doing life together and learning is everywhere.

We have homeschooled for well over a decade and have done both. For the last several years, we’ve been following the traditional school calendar (kind of - we start and end earlier, but similar enough). I’ve been wanting to go back to year round, but my kids are old enough that I wanted but-in from them. Yesterday my 11am 13 year olds told me they want to go year round again with lighter loads during busy times. Yahoo!!! So happy and we are back to being year round homeschoolers as of yesterday! It’s like a big burst of excitement and a big breath of fresh air. I think one thing that really helped is that we switched our homeschool approach at the beginning of this month to unit studies. Everyone is excited about school again vs just being okay with school. I never had a lot of complaints, but it was just becoming something we did and very little passion. That has never been our way of life, so something had to change. So thankful that as homeschoolers, we can give ourselves the permission to do just that; change!!!

We have tried both ways and homeschooling year around works best for us. I also bought the DISCOVERY DECKS for the days I’m not feeling well or need a break. During the “school year” we do one field trip a week and during the summer we do two a week. Festivals(tomato, strawberry, watermelon), car shows, medieval fairs, museums, state parks, going to the lake and park days. A field trip notebook is kept for all field trips. We school like real life, it doesn’t stop. We rest when we need to and find joy in learning new things. This doesn’t work for everyone. I only have one child and I think it really depends on your family. The best part of homeschooling is doing what works for your child. Thanks for everything you do and all the great ideas❤

We homeschool year-round, but my son has co-op classes that follow the traditional school schedule. My tip is to make a flexible plan for a few months and then reevaluate.

Yes, we homeschool year around! We do our traditional curriculum in the “school months” except for the holidays in which we take a break and usually do a unit study. In the summer I try to focus on my girls interests and we do more nature study. We always do math and reading. We live in MI, so it can get pretty cold here, so we live for summer.

8:44 that is why I do homeschool year round.. we can school until we need a break, and take more smaller breaks.. so its not hard to schedule things in the summer either because we can take breaks whenever we want.. because do not have a start or stop day..

We do school year round also ✨ take a week off here and there through out the year. And take 3 weeks between the grade levels. We vacation when ever we want 🤍

This year I took year round as too much permission for flexibility 😅 we didn't hit our needed days (were not required to school yet though so I'm giving myself grace). This year, we are planning to follow traditional but do summer learning to prevent the loss and because my daughter LOVES school.

We do year round, it’s great. We do go lighter in the summer months and around holidays (focusing on math, foreign language, and read aloud/ family subjects). It also means we can do 4 day weeks and give the kids breaks when they need it. Having year round also helps with extended family who we do book clubs with. People have more time to tackle books in the summer (we have a small literature society with family and friends from all over the country and it’s nice to not have to squeeze that in to a traditional calendar. Especially for my high schoolers who can start their “ new school year” with some heavy lifting in classics in July).

We homeschool year round. Usually because we finish our year's curriculum in early spring and we aren't going to stop in April😂 so we start new levels of subjects and continue with them thru the summer. Not always every subject. Right now we do math daily and are continuing our history since we started a new level this spring. We are spending more time on art and STEM kits because those were more lacking during our regular school months. And of course we always have an audiobook, read aloud or both going. July is usually our busiest month with birthdays, activities, and warm weather so we tend to take most of July as our 1 extended break during the year. Otherwise we take breaks for vacation (Usually late September, Jan and late May/early June) and also the week after Xmas to enjoy all our new gifts. Keeping a rhythm really helps us too. We are more relaxed in summer but having a littlw bit of structure helps everyone get along better😂

We homeschool year round too. About to start our fourth year with third grade. We usually do 5-6 ish weeks on with a week break. We take a lil over a month for our 'summer break'. This last year was a bit different because my husband had a stroke so we took lots of days off here n there. A pro is going on vacay and places not being as busy during the week vs the weekends or normal busy times. Great video!!

We school year round. Our biggest reason is both of my girls are dyslexic, the whole use it or lose thing is kicked up about 10 notches with learning delays. We take 3 weeks off for summer break that includes 1wk of summer camp and 1wk of VBS. For the rest of the year we school for 3 weeks and then take 1 wk off. Also 2wks off for Christmas and Easter. When you homeschool you set the rules and make it work for your family

We kind of do a hybrid. We live in MN, so the June through August weather is preciously short, and is the only time to swim, kayak, garden, etc. We drop core subjects for the summer, and spend lots of time outside, but do electives like music lessons, work with our language arts tutor, and do online art courses. Then, when September through May rolls around, we focus on our 4 core subjects and don’t have to worry about “fitting it all in”. We typically take 2 week breaks throughout the whole year (we are on one right now 😊) and this saves my sanity.

We do year round - I love that I can take a full year to do our state standards and go off on so many adventures/ breaks. My husband travels a lot and we can stay up late or travel with him if we want. It’s super flexible and helps me keep a slower pace of life.

I guess we’re on sort of a hybrid schedule. We usually take 6 weeks for our summer break from mid May through June, and start our new school year after the 4th of July. We live in TN, so our best weather is in May and June, because “swamp season” hits in July and August where it’s too hot to enjoy being outside! 😂 We always take 2 weeks at Christmas, and sprinkle in breaks as needed throughout the rest of the year, especially when the weather is nice in October!

Year round is the way to go for us! We plan vacations for off seasons. There are so many discounts during traditional school sessions. We are taking a 10 day Mediterranean cruise at the first week of November. My daughter will cruise and fly free. Jessica! You look great. You have motivated me to dust off my treadmill ❤❤

We follow a mostly traditional school year, but I focus on getting our required number of days. My kids do a lot of camps in the summer which I count toward school. That way we can take a vacation in the fall and a lot of three day weekends! I don't love the lack of schedule in the summer; but as a mom of 5, I have found that I need a lot of in-depth planning time. I plan as much as possible in the summer.

We do kind of a mixture. My daughter works on math and language arts in the summer, but it is nothing new that I have to teach. So I still get a nice long break, but we still have the routine of doing school several days a week. ❤😊

This is my 4th yr homeschooling in summer we just go with the flow. My oldest kids thrives off a schedule so I am planning activity with them. I think I'm gonna do just two days a week of planned activities and other 3 days are their choice of things to do. Gonna see how it works out, everything is trial and error.

We do year round. I dont like the learning slump that can happen when children lack the practice. We lighten the load in the summer a little from June to mid-August as there is summer dance intensive to factor in and i like giving her 2 weeks off when we finish the grade and 2 weeks off before starting up again. We are sticking to reviewing our year with a workbook made for that and I add in reading practice and flashcards. We dont do as much as we would usually do, but then again, some days during the year have flown by within the same amount of time as this summer schedule takes, so its really just a question of no new knowledge to acquire and keeping her sharp :)
