The PROS & CONS of Living in Toronto, Ontario | Canada's LARGEST City to Consider Moving In/Out

In this video, I get into the pros and cons of residing in Canada's largest city, Toronto.
Discovering the disadvantages from real estate prices, with Ontario condos shrinking in size over the past two decades, to the notorious traffic and lengthy commutes, which can stretch anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour +. I discuss the fast-paced, career-driven atmosphere that permeates the city, contributing to a sense of impatience amongst Torontonians.
On the flip side, I highlight the advantages: Toronto boasts a favorable climate compared to the rest of Canada, allowing residents to experience the full spectrum of four distinct seasons. Additionally, I talk about the city's vibrant multiculturalism, emphasizing the inclusive atmosphere where individuals from diverse backgrounds can find a sense of belonging without fear of judgment. Moreover, I explore the abundant opportunities Toronto offers, spanning across various industries, and the city's knack for attracting top-tier talent. From exciting concerts to thrilling sporting events, Toronto is a hub of cultural and entertainment experiences.
Ultimately, I conclude that every city has its good/bad, and the key lies in aligning your values with your decision. It's what you make of your choice that truly determines its success in the long run.
I'll see you all in the next one,
-Frank

Great video, Frank! My opinion of Toronto is that, generally speaking, many things are a race to the bottom. Too many people going after too few things, that mostly are not really worth what they cost in the end. Maybe it’s a thrill for some people, and that’s fine, but as one gets older, the prestige behind things tend to wear off. Simplicity often trumps ‘bigger and better,’ especially starting in your 30s. Though, it is better than most places in SW Ontario for some professions because the pay is more commensurate with the cost of living than in places that pay half as much, but the rent is only like $500 cheaper. In conclusion, and this is just my own personal sentiment: Toronto is a game where the prize is often not worth the cost. So, the only way to really win is to not play.

Totally agree with your take, Tylor - detaching from playing the “game” is itself a peace of mind. I’m even finding it in myself the ‘bigger/better” things in Toronto starting to fade vs when I was 18. Guess it’s all part of the learning process for something better. Thanks for watching and commenting man!

@@FrankHuynh thank you , my dad and dad's side still think I'm crazy for wanting to move out of Toronto. I've lived at home with the family here so I never saw a need to rent especially with the prices but home or condo ownership became so out of reach here

I miss the old Toronto! Cost of living was much less, less traffic, no high rise condos blocking out the sunlight & friendlier people. I love the diversity & entertainment.

Frank, can the work you do potentially be done from anywhere in the world if you move from FTE to contractor? After a few decades enjoying downtown, i left. Its good for people to experience it when they are young. With time the allure wears off, and your priorities / needs / wants change. Glad you are having fun and taking advantage of the things Toronto has to offer. I've always enjoyed interacting from people from Manitoba, Sask and Alb. Don't let Toronto warp you.
@FrankHuynh

I do have some flexibility, but I prefer stability with FTE right now. Giving real estate a go will be my 'litmus' test with a more risky career path. I hear ya - ppl from prairie provinces got a certain vibe lol. Thanks for commenting and watching too!

About traffic, only Toronto and I believe Montreal actually have a traditional subway system . So it looks good by Canadian standards but bad by worldwide even just NA standards.

@@FrankHuynh yep, I am moving to the national capital region soon from Toronto. They have an above ground LRT I think it just has 2 lines and I hear the tracks commonly freeze or something. Such a joke, coming from Toronto I almost view their transit as the equivelant of a Toronto Suburb like a York Region YRT or something. And I have a car, I pretty much realize and it is scary but if my car breaks down I am pretty screwed lol

Toronto is 630.2 km² so even without traffic, it takes a while to get from A to B. Some people just don't understand how big Toronto alone is not to mention GTA/GTHA. People also don't realize that as under populated as Canada is, Toronto is the 2nd largest city in the eastern seaboard so it comes with all the baggage for sure.
