The part at the end strikes me. The exact idealism that makes Cap a good guy, which Frank recognizes, is the exact same reason why Cap refuses to acknowledge/understand Frank. Just two vets on a different life path.

except he really doesn't get anything done. he can kill entire crime syndicates and a new one will replace them in a week or two. Frank KNOWS this and has admitted as much on several occasions. even with supervillians...some new schmuck will put on the mask. Frank Castle kills because he LIKES killing. He WANTS to live in a state of perpetual war. the dead family is just an old excuse. but despite that level of insanity, he's not utterly without morals. As for his relation with Cap...Lots of killers have "soft spots" Hannibal Lecter was a good freind to Barney his orderly, who was highly competant and professional at his job and always treated the mass murderer with courtesy. In return, Lecter halped barney get his degree through correspondance courses he was taking. When Lecter finally made his escape..it was with items he obtained when Barney wasn't working. After the escape, he sent Barney a thank you note and a generous monetary tip. For that matter, in the last book, barney is the last one to see Lecter and Clarice Starling(throughoughly brainwashed and now Lecter's lover....yes really. it's why Jodi Foster refused to do the sequel))at a concert in Argentina...They recognized each other, and Barney, who was no fool, left the country IMMIDIATELY. Until the author says otherwise, he's still alive. So yeah..Frank castle respects Cap. idolizes him, even. he's a soldier, hero and a legitiamately good man. It's even mentioned in a tie in comic he know perfectly well what he was doing when he "fell on his sword" by killing those two supervillains..becasue he could'nt stand to see his hero cross that line. But at the end of the day, he's STILL a homicidal nutjob, too.

Cap killed bad guys out of necessity, not amorality, in human terms. People died to save a great many more, IRL, and real surviving soldiers have to battle this dichotomy every day, and many suffer PTSD about what they were trained, and had, to do on tour in Afghanistan, Gulfs 1and 2, Iran and Bosnia/Serbia. We armchair warrior who never put someone on the business-end of a gun for whatever reason will never know if that trigger could be pulled. We think we would, for family and friends, home and country, to save lives, but war *is* hell, and I think we might see it come around to home and hearth again very soon from both domestic and foreign agencies...

I think spider man Put it best. And I think writers really need to make the point that punisher isn't bad for killing people. It's that he's bad for how much he goes straight to killing people. I mean killing a guy who just robbed a couple of banks not really hurting anybody actually offers to join up a super hero team but giving it 0 thought on killing him it's a bit much. But saying that something like carnage deserves compassion I mean what the f***.

Frank's code is he punishes those who prey upon the innocent. Innocent in his mind is a law abiding citizen. Somebody who agrees to adhere to the rules of a society for the sake of relative peaceful coexistence. Beating on your wife? Frank might not kill you but you'll never be able to open a soda every again because he'll ensure you won't be able to lay a hand on anyone. You kill? You'll get yours if he sees you. You rape? You mess with children? You sell drugs? These are either morally reprehensible, or a cog in the crime machine. Drugs are always a path to cash and power, and bad people exploit it, which does harm to the law abiding society mentioned above. So he'll kill them. I like the comic book sociopath Frank better than the Netflix adaptation of him being this rabid dog, foaming at the mouth for a kill. Frank isn't doing it because it's fun, or because it's calming some beast inside him. He's doing it because at his core, he feels it must be done. Frank is just a sanitation worker, and he's the only one qualified to do the work, because his moral compass doesn't shift. That's Frank.

Mark millars writing is really good. The way he turns stark into a cold uncompromising dictator without corrupting his character is always so impressive and I love Cap’s slow realization that the war they’re fighting is a losing one no matter what side they’re on. It takes him to long to put down the shield but when he does the weight of the moment is unshakable. He realizes everything he’s fighting for, what he thought he stood for is just this. Just more violence more death more destruction, everything they’ve been defending, the way they’ve been defending it, and the scale they’ve pushed this Civil War to is too much for him to bear and he surrenders. Truly a phenomenal story this book is top 10 marvel for me
@drballsballsballs
@drballsballsballs 11 ай бұрын
Even in this moment you see shades of that in his face. Punisher is insane for being the only one willing to stand on his morals and not work with criminals? Even cap doesn’t feel right about that and he can’t hit a defenseless man… punisher is a fighter regardless so there’s definitely more to him not hitting cap than him idolizing the man. Everyone idolizes cap because he does what is right no matter what, and if punisher is wrong for killing those criminals and cap is beating him up for it, then it must be the right thing to do. Captain America always does the right thing. And the MOMENT Steve starts to question his own actions as Cap, he’s already lost both the war and the symbol hee supposed to be. If he’s not sure he’s doing the right thing, what is he acting on?? What principles is he standing on so firmly? He’s no longer fighting to save innocents or defend the little guy, he’s fighting for himself. Regardless the reason they are fighting doesn’t matter and eventually all he can see are the consequences, which is when he surrenders. It just takes him way longer than it should have, he has to be a leader but first and foremost he is a good man. A good man isn’t expected to always do the right thing without knowing what that is but he can admit when he is no longer sure. Tony believes he is not a good man but that he is doing the right thing, and for him that’s enough.

@@skoonimadooner464 obviously cap was “right” but I think the point of the story is that it isn’t that black and white. And cap was able to realize that at the end they were doing far more harm than good and essentially fighting for their right to cause unregulated harm. Cap surrendering at the end was the most “right decision” decision he made the entire story imo, just because it put a stop to the bleeding. The resistance was still strong without him, it was what he and the movement had grown to represent that I think Cap could no longer support

I want a continuation of Ennis' version of Punisher. Mainly cause the Vietnam origin story eludes to some outside/inside force that gave Frank the choice of die on the hill or kill everyone and become something else. When he agreed, the story goes its way with the voice lastly saying "See you soon, Frank" over a picture of him and his wife and kids. Frank didn't die on that hill with his fellow marines, but he never left either.

@@noobie1890 I'm not sure which run or #, but it was the comic the Punisher went to Mexico to fight the Cartels. Which was a great concept, I was like 'Finally, this is a perfect peanut butter and jelly matchup.' And instead I got this watered down terrible shadow of the Ennis Punisher, which continued until the end of the series run with an incredibly stupid version of Kingpin and Elektra showing up. If you want my advice when you get to that issue, switch to the one-off Ennis books. The last one he did, where Frank is finally going after the last of the men who killed his family in prison, is pretty much the true ending to the Ennis run as far as I'm concerned. (Esp since they stupidly kill the knock-off not-Ennis Punisher at the end of his run).

I get Captain America's point of view, just like I get Punisher's, but I feel that they both get it wrong. You can't always have compassion for everyone, just like you can't simply gun down everyone, there has to be a limit to either approach. Cap shouldn't have immediately accepted the Punisher, instead, what he should have done is hear him out, and then gave him an ultimatum, in order for him to stay, he'd have to give up killing people permanently, because there's just no place for cold blooded murderers among heroes.

"Same guy, different war." exactly. Cap can't understand because he doesn't have a family to lose but if he had and lost a family the way Frank did, let's just say we'd have a much more powerful Punisher. It's easy to judge others without walking in their shoes. Also cap really trying to act like he never killed anyone? Really? And a lot of the other heroes too? Are we forgetting Luke Cage's original origins? At least Frank is honest with himself. Cap is just a hypocrite pretending to be a boy scout.
@icegodsavior8885
@icegodsavior8885 11 ай бұрын
Cap doesn’t kill people like Frank does. He only kills when it’s absolutely necessary, like in war. And Cap has lost family before. His adopted son was shot right in front of him by his girlfriend and that didn’t cause him to go off the deep end like Frank. Many heroes lose their loved ones, but they understand that it’s not an excuse to go full psycho and start killing people just because they’ve done some bad things. And if you want to know a true hypocrite, then look no further than Franks himself. Back when Cap was made a Hydra agent Frank went right along with him. After that whole debacle Frank would then go on to kill some Hydra Agents, saying that they deserved to die just because they were Hydra. That means that Franks deserved a bullet in his head after he joined Hydra so why didn’t he kill himself?

The Punisher is not a hero, or even an antihero. He is the final line of judgement. Why should murderers walk? Why should thieves prosper? Why should injustice be tolerated at all? Captain America is a Hero. He sees the best in people, and strives with every fiber of his being to lead people to be better. Frank Caste is the answer to those that say "no." Because why should murders walk free? Why should thieves prosper? Why should injustice be tolerated at all? Sacrifices for the "greater good." Make them yourself, *hero*

The heroes hate him because he does what they don't do. They won't cross the line and will try to reason with criminals and even save them. They are vigilantes that can't be taken in by normal street PD but they know they are trusted to let the police handle criminals. Frank is right and wrong at the same time on criminals. Prison is cruel. Punishment is just. The sum who cross the line into the domain of evil deserve no more sympathy than they would grant their victims.

@@andresaguilarcampoy631 hmm, I’m not entirely sure. What’s the difference between seeking Justice on two killers who have probably killed more than one person each and the state placing them on death row? Hero’s put them in jail, they inevitable break out, go back to killing some more. A great example is the joker, he’s been to jail, mental institution multiple times and he always get out and kills more. Though I respect Batman and love his character, he could have saved hundred of lives if he had taken one life.

@@jessev2295 but he would get corrupted, just like punisher for example, you dont decide who gets redemption and who dont. You cant just play judge jury and executioner, even less if you are a superpowered or full of gear/resources vigilante. Who are you going to answer to ?

@@andresaguilarcampoy631 so who does decide? A justice system that debatably fails consistently to actually stop crime? In this case there was a balance, you have hero’s like Cap who have a moral code that saves his purity, but because of this people die. Then you have hero’s like punisher who sacrificed his purity to put an end and complete stop on acts of evil. Those villains he killed will never harm another person again, at least I believe that is his logic. Given his history with violence, loss, trauma, I understand his motives. I get where you’re coming from, I do believe that there’s a better way on stoping crime, but I’d be ignorant if I were to think that everyone can be saved or deserves a second chance.

honestly I think it would be interesting if the punisher had an arch nemesis who fought on the opposite side of the war. The arch nemesis would kill rich people, and cops which would be the opposite of the punisher but this time she would also be like him thinking that by killing all the corrupt rich people and cops the world would be better. It would be interesting since Frank Castle would have someone who despite have different views on how to fight evil would also understand him and his ptsd and also sympathize with frank castle's killing unlike the rest of the marvel universe.

It seems like half the interactions in these civil war comics is Tony wanting to talk things out peacefully and team cap just starts blasting. I mean I understand their point of view, but being so arrogant that they're completely unable to compromise is kinda offputting

Whats funny is that Frank wouldn't have been able to stand up to Cap in the first place, Punisher would struggle even with guns, as his uniform is quite literally bullet proof. Additionally Cap would just easily overpower the Punisher even through brute force, which he wouldn't given he could if he truly wanted, take the Punisher out with like 2-3 swift punches.

Deciding you’re judge jury and executioner and killing villains without due process is absolutely insane. These two villains in particular only crimes were petty thievery. They did not deserve death
