This man has raised millions upon millions while poor boy Branson needs a bail out because his billions won't stretch to supporting his own staff during these hard times. The comparison between Tom Moore and Branson encapsulates perfectly the notion that there are those who are always willing to give and those who only want to take from others.

You may need to check the facts with regard to Branson's charity & foundation contributions over the last 40 years as well as the tax paid in each of the countries in which he / Virgin have offices. Never cast judgement / opinion unless you have done your research, it's not just to do so. It misleads people. How many thousands of jobs has he created, how many mortgages has he indirectly paid for, how many school tuitions has he paid for? Cars on finance has he paid for? The list goes on. His entrepeneurial achievements have had a mammoth effect on millions of people. Ask yourself next time you cast judgement, whens the last time you positively effected society? And to what scale. Then conclude, by comparing your contributions with Richards...

Absolutely agree with you. I think that he will appreciate the title of Colonel more than a knighthood, that seems to be handed out with the cornflakes these days. A knighthood used to mean something. Not sure what it means if people like Philip Green and Richard Branson have them now.

We salute Captain Moore. We also salute the millions who have put their hands in their pockets and donated what they could, in tough financial times for all . This shows the vast amount of human kind are good kind people who want to do good and want to live in a peaceful world without wars and hatred and starvation. As amazing as this is, it was only luck he got attention. Many elderly people have done the same before and not been acknowledged. I wish his congratulations, but I’m not sure if he is “to thank” for this. I for one know someone who did something very similar for charity but only managed to raise £600. Just to be clear, I am not saying he didn’t deserve the award, I just think he got it for publicity of the royal family during this time.
