@@jknumber5138 it's believed Billy's body was washed away with several others during flooding in the area. That's why it's not known for certain if this is really Billy's grave, someone else's, or possibly even empty. The cage is to prevent thieves and souvenir hunters from either stealing, or damaging the headstone.

My great great grandfather was killed by Billy the kid . My great great grandfather was the sheriff of Lincoln county his name was William Brady

You should have the oldest person in that line do an ancestry DNA test. It is pretty cool to have verifiable relatives to such notable individuals. My grandmother is 94 and while she isn't related to anyone particular other than a descendant of a mayflower passenger, I can verify DNA ancestors ("cousins") going back to that same era as Brady. You could actually see if you share DNA with the other children of Brady if they show up as shared matches.

I’ve been to so many of the places you visit. I love your channel! My grandpa was a history buff and as a kid he took me to hundreds of old west graveyards. This was in the early 70’s so many of those places are completely erased from existence now. Old pony express relay stations were just allowed to be paved as interstate 15 grew ever wider but I will never forget. Billy’s grave has enough notoriety to survive and I’m grateful for that.

The Billy the Kid museum is actually very good. They have his old pistol and rifle and hundreds of other artifacts. There is a large rock he carved "Billy Kid" into. I was amazed. Lots of historic Native American artifacts too. Well worth the small entrance fee. They also have a tourist shop with some fun things for the kids and clothes for adults.

@@billlozier5551 Billy is looked upon as a hero because he was pushed into the Lincoln County War and his mentor John Tunstall was murdered. Billy,Dick and Charlie went after the killers. Billy probably killed less than 12 men, mostly crooked lawmen. Chavez was known to be extremely violent and was half Mexican .Billy killed only people like Brady. Those working for Dolan. Murphy died of cancer b. He wasn't shot between the eyes by Billy. Dolan wound up with it all. Murphy's family didn't get anything. Murphy is remembered for pairing up with Dolan . It was an uneasy business deal but their store and Army contracts using John Chisum's rustled cattle turned Chisum against them..Chisum was more powerful than them with 500 ranchers and farmers on his payroll plus hired Gunmen. Dolan and Murphy steered clear of Chisum and rustled cattle off other ranchers..John Chisum looked like James Coburn, the actor that played him in Young Guns ll a lot. Good casting in those movies. The events in those movies actually occurred. The writers just spiced them up a little. The Army did have a Gatlin gun but didn't use it in the seige on McSween's store. McSween was just caught in the crossfire trying to get to his house 2 doors down..When the store was set on fire, Billy and 3 others made it to McSween's house. It was 2 story so it gave them an advantage..The store was just a large log building but burned quickly. McSween's house survived and stood until the early 20th Century. It was partially delapidated but today it's attraction caused city fathers to rebuild it. It looks like the original house. Other buildings on that now street are standing and restoring them makes money. Billy The Kid makes more money today than when he was alive.. There's a channel on U Tube with real pictures of the original buildings and their replacements. Some were moved to farther down the street but basically the street is like it was originally.

I grew up in Roswell, NM. But lived in Fort Summer for a few years as a teenager. In fact, I lived in a house right up the road from the location of the grave. I remember hearing about Billy the Kid but didn’t really understand all the history. Thank you for sharing this @grimmlifecollective! It really brought back some memories. 🤠 Maybe think about visiting Roswell as it’s not too far away, and you know what’s there, right? 👽

Puking off the Red Rocks.... don't make movie's like that anymore. Saw that movie when I was 12. I was from a small town riding horses, rope'n, shooting guns and acting like The Billy the Kid gang out in the boonies!! Even rode in that area in Utah, saw petroglyphs, and the sight of an Indian massacre, the red paint indian hand prints still on the wall. Moab utah and surrounding area. Great memories!! Nothing like being free and riding on a horse 🐎 in the middle of nowhere, cooking breakfast and dinner 🍝 over a camp fire 🔥 Thanks I'm now going to move outta the city for sure and back to the country!!!! Agreed the Government does not want to change History about the truth. I know Billy is not there and the Garrett family is all liars even today
@joshuaragon6676
@joshuaragon6676 3 жыл бұрын
@@supportyourtroopsathletes6460 actually that’s partially true. I’ve seen evidence the real Billy was let go by Pat. Him and Pat were actually friends and Pat only became the new sheriff to pretend to kill Billy to get Billy out of the public’s eye. He probably told Billy get out of here and never come back. There’s evidence he fought in I believe a Mexican war. And he died in the 50’s in Texas. One man here in Arizona claimed to be him and there’s a grave of his claiming to be Billy to in Prescott.

brushy bill roberts? I dunno... he was a crazy old man who a lot of folks say told conflicting stories. however, it's possible that garrett shot the wrong man, and let billy go to escape a public assault in the press for his failures.
@supportyourtroopsathletes6460
@supportyourtroopsathletes6460 3 жыл бұрын
@@joeyclemenza7339 .. I only agree with part of your comment as it sounds like you have did research on the kid but with my intense research not once have I heard about conflicting statements from brushy , at the end of the day. Nobody will ever know the truth as the Government has stopped DNA being taken from the man shot by Garrett whom by the way and I can prove had conflicting stories in his own book and his own words. But there is speculation grounds that do indeed make sense that brushy was indeed the kid. Nobody will ever know however. Family ancestry does link Billy's brother to a grave somewhere in Colorado and does link him to a daughter. Where this daughter is burried or how she died, it does not mention. His mother s grave was moved in the same cemetery and a report of flooding of the area was documented as the reason. Speculation on her grave is questionable at best but the ancestry does believe they have the right grave of the mother. So between that all, there is possibility there is enough evidence out there but the Government would need to let scientist do DNA testing. They won't though and the Garrett family owns the museum in front of the reported Billy the kids grave so of course they are stopping any of this from happening themselves but there is absolutely no reason brushys grave can't be but the Government is stopping it much like they are doing John Wilkes Booth.
@joshuaragon6676
@joshuaragon6676 3 жыл бұрын
@@supportyourtroopsathletes6460 sadly that’s probably because the federal government had a part in it. John Wilkes Booth was a scapegoat. And the federal government knew of what was happening in Lincoln County (the Murphy-Dolan Ring) But let it slide and just used Billy as the enemy to point the finger at even though Billy wasn’t the problem he was actually like a vigilante imo. Taking down the corruption.

I am glad you had the chance to visit my state, New Mexico. Yep, it is very rural and peaceful. I laughed when you mentioned the cows in the field. Such a "norm" here, it was just strangely funny when visitors point out the simplest everyday life here. I live in Albuquerque, NM, but grew up on the Navajo reservation. I prefer the hustle and bustle myself, however, love the chance to visit my brothers on the rez just to get away for some peace and quiet. Even Albuquerque may seem slow and quiet for you two, lol!!

The real court, the judge never said that . The judge just sentenced him, never saying till dead dead dead. Billy said nothing,that was just the movie. There was no up stairs. That second story was added two years after Billy's death. The little grave marker was made for the movie Young Guns, and they just kept it and put it on there grave. And yes he did die that night in Fort Sumner. Yes i am a Billy The Kid expert, he did have a short life but he lived it the best he could, and really was well liked by most. Thanks for all the videos, good job.
