Welcome back to our channel! Today, we're diving into a topic that's been making headlines lately - why new immigrants, including Filipino immigrants, are leaving Canada. We'll explore the key reasons and discuss solutions to help newcomers thrive in their new home.
In 2022, the following 10 countries were Canada’s top immigration sources according to each immigrant’s country of citizenship. Each country will be listed alongside the number of immigrants that came from that country and the percent of Canada’s total PR number accounted for by that country.
India (118, 095 immigrants) - 27%
China (31,815 immigrants) - 7.2%
Afghanistan (23,735 immigrants) - 5.4%
Nigeria (22,085 immigrants) - 5.05%
Philippines (22,070 immigrants) - 5.04%
France (14,145 immigrants) - 3.2%
Pakistan (11,585 immigrants) - 2.6%
Iran (11,105 immigrants) - 2.5%
United States of America (10,400 immigrants) - 2.3%
Syria (8,500 immigrants) - 1.9%
The Filipino community is one of the largest immigrant groups in Canada. But why are some of them leaving? Several factors contribute to this trend.
Filipino immigrants, like many newcomers, face challenges such as underemployment, lack of recognition for foreign credentials, and high living costs, particularly in major cities. These factors can lead some to consider returning to the Philippines.
Cities with the Highest Rate of Immigrant Departures
Some cities are experiencing a higher rate of immigrants leaving and returning to their home countries. These cities often have high living costs and limited job opportunities for newcomers.
Cities with High Immigration Departure Rates
- Vancouver, Toronto, and Calgary have seen higher departure rates.
Coping and Thriving as New Immigrants
Now, let's discuss solutions to help new immigrants, including Filipinos, cope, adjust, and ultimately thrive in Canada.
1. Mentorship and Networking: Connect with established immigrant support organizations and fellow immigrants to build a strong network and gain valuable insights.
2. Credential Recognition: Advocate for better recognition of foreign credentials and explore upgrading opportunities through local educational institutions.
3. Financial Planning: Create a budget and financial plan to manage expenses and save for the future.
4. Language Skills: Invest in language courses to improve communication and job prospects.
5. Explore Regional Opportunities: Consider settling in smaller cities or provinces with lower living costs and more job opportunities.
In conclusion, Canada remains a welcoming destination for immigrants, including Filipinos. While challenges exist, with the right support, determination, and strategies, newcomers can overcome these obstacles and build successful lives in their new home.

Exploitative taxes, crazy monthly rent, unbearable high prices This is what I felt after immigrating to Canada. I returned to my hometown. Many immigrants still come to Canada dreaming of a dream that does not exist. Canadian citizens, If you travel to an Asian country, your thoughts will change a lot.

It depends on how you want to make your ends meet. How you make your ends will depend on how wise your decisions are. It is a good option for Filipino’s if youre planning to make your life better back home. Like I’ve said in my previous comment everyone is so focused on bringing their family in Canada, and when they realize it was a bad decision and when they go back home, they go back to scratch and that is the reality for most.

15-20 years ago cost of living was low and people could afford buying a house even if they work at a restaurant or factory...however things have clanged over past decades, house prices are sky high even Canadian doctors can't affording buying a house that is more than 1.5 million dollar let alone new migrants who either earn much less or fail to find a stable job.

It was no longer fun. Because they a huge mistake building their communities. They end up speaking their own languages and gossipping everyday, while eating canned sardines from the Filipino store. The novelty of being in a western country was not there. They end up living in a tagalog indie film rather than an HBO mini series.

Our family migrated to Winnipeg MAnitoba way back 2014. We are lucky to have a job just weeks after we came here. My aunt gave us their old car and after a year, we bought a 4 bedroom house. We live frugally and save a lot of money. We were able to help our family in the Philippines, gave them small business. After 9 years, I resigned from my very stressful work and now I am in the process of building my own small business here in Canada. I know a lot of Filipinos here who owns expensive cars, jetski, big houses, expensive clothes, shoes and bags but with zero bank and in debt. Wherever you go, just live within your means, be content with what you have and you will be good.

2014 is very different from 2023. I came here 2016. After the pandemic, a lot of people lost their jobs including me. I was working at the airport as a cleaner. Was supposed to upgrade but I postponed it due to not financially ready to go back to school. I was earning 16/hr at the airport. Right now, I’m only earning 17.50/hr at a retirement home. 😂 My income has just gone up 1.50$ after 3.5 yrs. Winnipeg is way cheaper than Toronto. I’m saving up money and plans to go back home in 2 yrs. I’m tired of living here. I’m putting up a business back home since I bought properties there.

Do you never see or know any people who are happy or grateful to be living in Canada ? The first few years are hard and stressful for all. That is why the government gives you at least three years to decide if this is the country for you. No one forces anyone to come or continue to live in Canada. Learn to adapt and make your life to the best of your ability. No other country helps its citizens like Canada does. If you feel you can find a better place please feel free to make your life wherever you choose . Not all Canadians are unhappy or so miserable that they need to leave.

An economist came to Quebec from Bulgaria. He worked in construction, his wife was a school bus driver. They made good money. Despite a fast and successful integration, he went back to Bulgaria. He explained that there is a lot of corruption here and that services are poor in relation to taxation. He was appalled by the poor quality of education and medical services. His best friend's wife had to go back to her country for proper medical diagnosis. He was amazed by high food prices and inflation in the 2 years that he was here. That was 7 years ago. Things have gotten much, much worse. He was really taken aback by an elementary school teacher who started a war with him over the preferred method of doing long division. People from Muslim and Judea- Christian backgrounds will not be pleased by what is being shown and taught in schools. It is very easy to lose custody of your kids here. Not liking LGBTQ propaganda or not liking an other group is considered child abuse (if you share your views with your children) The education system undermines parental authority and considers religion something to educate kids out of. Banks now have the right, according to Canadian law, to block your money or debank you. Political affiliation and protesting can lead to persecution (direct and indirect). If you don't espouse popular dictates you lose your job. There is a housing shortage. All your money goes to rent. America isn't what you see on television.. That is make believe. Like the news. Mainstream media has become an arm of state propaganda. On the internet you can learn a language and a trade or profession. Work from home and order China made goods online. You don't have to leave your country, friends, family or culture. Everything you buy in Canada is made in China Canadians with money are leaving in droves. You've been warned.

@@theozchannel6253 so many things in Canada with double standards and hypocrisy on how this system is set up. We can't disciplining your children with a little spanking. Canadian system says it's wrong. Children have rites to complain to the teacher, then principal call police, police then call parent to leave job to come to school, no charges laid on parent, parent walked out of school upset. Only to find a social worker waiting for you infront of your home after work, requested to check things out speaking to everyone in the house. What a wasted of taxpayer $$$. Encouraging your children to disrespect their home and parents. This happened to me. My good son now 29 still making jokes about it from grade 6. When kids from good homes now disrespectful doing wrong thing, now charged by the police. The System will say parents did a terrible job raising their kids. Now police, lawyers, court, may be social worker all involved. In the end parents and child suffering just to keep every body in the system employed. If your child goes to jail, wealthy corporation that owns that jail get paid by the system.

My wife and I are currently working to move to France. I was born in Canada and everything is way worse than it was 5 years ago and profoundly worse than 15 or 20 years ago. The healthcare system is soo bad. When my mom had cancer and the waiting list for a retirement home / nursing home is so long the hospital told us we had to take her into our home but she needed more care that we cannot provide. When we said that they said we can just release her to a homeless shelter. My wife is from from France. Yes they pay more taxes but housing is way cheaper if not in Paris and healthcare systems is WAY better. Letting in more and more immigrants into Canada when we have a housing shortage, doctor shortage, etc makes no sense, it's only going to get worse before it gets better

Sounds like Canada is like another Australia, everything is getting much more expensive, property prices are sky high, government opens flood gate to double up annual immigration quota to 400,000 to save the weak economy, as a result it causes shortage of rental housing and rental hikes. Australians with terminal illness have to wait for 10 over years for surgeries and many pass away before their turns are due, this is because there are not enough doctors and beds.

I came to Canada 7 years ago. Started with earning $13 and hour living in a basement. Started working on myself. Went to school while working. I now earn 150k a year. I also moved to Regina instead of going to Toronto or Vancouver. I own my own house now and live comfortably. I travel almost 3 times a year. So what it really is is strategizing and managing your expectations. Research on what jobs are in demand and work on that. Struggle for a few years to save money for a downpayment and then buy your own place. Set your priorities straight and have a goal. The grass is not always greener on the other side but you can work on the grass you already have, cultivate it, and it’ll be green.

And I wish I never had to move here. Nothing against Canada, but there's no place like home. However in Brazil, I could not find a job for my degrees, and impossible to have a job in McDonalds either. Too much corruption, too little investment, too much poverty. From my understanding of a 77-year-old young Canadian, a high % of immigrants come from cultures that have a moral and family based life. It wouldn't take long arriving in Canada that there is an agenda to destroy the backbone of a once moral society, especially in the education system. eg. More than two genders and pedophile ideology are introduced into early education. It absolutely disturbes me the direction the country is being led. So, an immigrant with small children with good solid moral standards would surely start to wonder what would be healthy for their children's future and lives.

I appreciate your unwavered hope and optimism. Canada is unfortunately broken for the next foreseable future. regardless of the party in charge. Life here will be very difficult for most until we clean the mess that was created in the last 10 years. One needs to really think long and hard as to why they want to come here. We as a people need to here that we have become less attractive to outsiders and maybe then we will unite and do the hard work that needs to be done. Right now we're fighting mostly over bull shit. While I am not a citizen of Canada, I did a post graduate degree in Halifax in the mid 90s. I actually loved it as it broadened my horizon and opened my eyes to a different culture and customs. Upon graduation, I left and didn’t return for many years. For the last 7 years I’ve been back many times and life has changed for the better and worse. Halifax, Ottawa, and Toronto where I visit have seen a massive influx of immigrants, especially Asians, cost of living has skyrocketed, and housing prices and rental prices have risen significantly. The nostalgia has left me since and I no longer desire to live there full time but to continue to visit as my life is fairly stable elsewhere so no need to live in the Tundra. I do watch the nightly news on CBC every night so feel as if I know almost everything that is happening including Manitoba’s new premier.

In 2004 I wrote a somewhat famous article called 'Top 8 reasons not to immigrate to Canada'. In short, the Canadian authorities tried to destroy my life. They made it so that I could not be employable in Canada. So I moved to the U.S. in 2005 and then some years later I moved permanently to the Philippines. I am happy that so many years later videos like yours are saying essentially the same things that I did. I was ahead of my time. I will never go back to Canada. Not to live, not to visit, not even a connecting flight. Too cold, too expensive, taxes are astronomical, no freedom, no jobs, no opportunities, xenophobic people, too depressing. It has become the North Korea of the western world.

When my father immigrated to Canada in the 1950s he came to Canada with his brother and nephew without their wives. They lived in a basement apartment together and worked 6 days a week in construction for over one year. They saved enough money so that they could have their wives come to Canada and went their separate ways. When I was born there was no universal health care in Canada so my parents had to pay out of pocket at the hospital. It seems to me that these days many people expect everything immediately and that is not reality and never was.

Tom was an advanced degree now they tell you you can't work for two and a half years and you must volunteer. That's utter BS. It's called slavery. In that time an immigrant can apply for any government benefits. So they've found a way to get fees off of the immigrants while telling them they can't work. I say that's discrimination and that's a scam. The way your relatives did it before does not exist anymore.

I was born and raised in this country - in Toronto. I am grateful for many things. I am very lucky in many ways. But I despise the trajectory that this wretched country is on. Up to about 20 or 30 years ago, one could still come to Canada regardless of their social standing and carve out a good life. Now, for those who are newcomers or starting out or trying to restart, it is a near impossibility. These out-of-touch arrogant and self-entitled inidividuals who lived through the easiest period of economic progress in this country's history are completely blind and out-of-touch to the realities faced by Gen Z, Millinials, Newcomers and Restarters. These people must stop clinging to silly notions from 20 or more years ago. The socio-economic environment in Canada and much of the anglo-speaking world has changed. Bad central banking policy especially since the 2008 world financial credit crisis and terrible government policies from all main political parties in Canada have made this society one that benefits only the bureaucrats, political class and their special interest cronies - civil service unions like cops, firefighters, and other civil service parasites - as well as the business class that exert influence - like the property developers that led the Ontario Ford gov't to the Greenbelt scandal. I do not want to discourage people from coming here but I do want to confirm what this gentlemen in this video is stating about the challenges faced by Filipinos - it is faced by many in Canada - especially newcomers. It is a horrendously expensive place with costs of living that make it nearly unlivable. Be warned!!!

Remote working a rural setting is the best way to stay in Canada. If you want to remain in Canada, and if your employer allows remote working, then do that and buy a cheaper house in rural Canada rather than living in the expensive bigger cities. I did this myself. House prices are significantly less here. For a 3-bed, 2-bath house in Toronto, I would have paid $1,000,000+ but in rural Ontario, I found a bigger house for $130k (12 years ago). We have all the amenities that you need like: groceries, dentists, doctors, pharmacies, restaurants, schools, etc -- without needing a trip to the bigger city (20 min drive, 50k pop) for Best Buy, Wal-Mart or the movies. However, if you're moving back home due to "culture shock" ... sorry, can't help you there. 😉 However, I highly recommend you getting your Canadian citizenship before leaving as Canada is a great passport for visa-free travel around the world. (In fact, as a Canadian I've never ever applied for a travel visa in my life!) It also entitles you to pass on the Canadian citizenship to your children. If they're born in Canada, they get automatic citizenship. However, if you move back home and you have (more) kids born there, then they would also be entitled to Canadian citizenship by descent. But ask this citizenship can only pass down one generation, the kids born in Canada would be able to pass their Canadian citizenship to their children (so your grandchildren) but the kids who are Canadian by descent would not be able to do the same for their kids. And, if you or your kids are interested in visiting or studying in the USA, Canadian citizens don't require a visa to travel or study there, unlike every other single country in the world! (However, if you are studying there, you will still need to apply for I-20 Student Registration and present that to the US immigration officials when arriving; I've done all this so I know!)

Canada does not have the resources necessary to support over 1 million immigrants and migrants coming into the country every year. By that I mean unless you already have a place to stay, a job that you can go to, your going to be sleeping on the streets, one, there just is not enough rentals out there to accommodate the massive increases in population and the shelters are all full. When you have demand exceeding the supply, you get one thing and that is high rents and really our landlords can charge what ever they like which is in the thousands of dollar per month right now. Its the same with food, our costs have gone up because our gov. charges two carbon taxes right now which drives up the cost of food, making inflation high along with interest rates. Jobs are a hit and miss opportunity and most of them are part-time and that's not enough to survive on. Crime is going up every year now as people get desperate. Really all I am trying to tell you is that your going to have a very hard time trying to make a go of things unless you have a lot of money coming into the country. Our hospitals are over whelmed now, wait times are very long and do not expect to get a regular doctor to deal with your health problems because they are not taking any new patients. I am a Canadian, born and breed here, years ago we had a great country where everyone could make a decent living but not anymore since this gov. has only one agenda and that is with the WEF and the agenda is to take away the peoples wealth, rights, freedoms and quality of life, you have been warned.

Maybe now is not such a good time to return. Trudeau is at war w/ us; but no one is being killed. Notwithstanding MAID. (Assisted suicide.) "Medical Assistance in [Suicide."] The highest numbers in the world. Projected to go higher--with even more lax laws. Easy to get; no-cost Government assisted suicide if you are: (1) Old (2) Mentally unwell. (3) Depressed. (4) Homeless. (5) Soon; the very young will qualify. "I failed math; time to die." Seriously; they're targeting children. Oh--(5) One must not forget to add the physically disabled to the list. Requiem to Canada....The revised Canadian National Anthem: "O Canada! My home and failed land; no patriot love; Our perma-frosted land! Patriot love not welcome; In Trudeau's anti-British land. With heavy hearts we see thee fall, The True North weak as tea! From far and wide, O Canada, The USA used to stand on guard for thee. God get out of our land, communist you see! O Canada, no one stands on guard for thee. O "Canada" you're an authoritarian outlier for all to see. Trudeau has defiled our land; cheapened Canadian citizenship; wrecked our once robust economy, and gutted our culture, and history. The "new" Canada has "no core identity." Our Christian foundation is under attack. Immorality reigns. Our children are being sexualized, and taught to hate their skin color, and ancestry. The list goes on; but that's enough of a lament. Seeing Trudeau's Canada through rose-colored glasses won't change the current reality. The sooner he's gone; the sooner we can begin the healing process. Canada: Born in 1867. Infected with a potentially fatal disease in 2015. Terminal stage by 2023. Cause of impending death: Fatally wounded by one J. Trudeau, and his band of like-minded; rabid wolves. The cure: A thorough fumigation of Parliament Hill, and a return to sane; time-tested policies. Also, and importantly....A return to morality, and righteousness. This country is naked, godless, and its so-called leaders ought to hang their heads in shame.

Canada has structural problems that primarily stem from a lack of competition and high bureaucracy. We have 5 banks, 3 telecoms, 3 grocery stores protected by the government and we wonder why prices are high. It takes 3 months to get a home building permit in Texas and 3 years in Ontario.

Im a visitor here in canada and still on the process of obtaining a work permit (hopefully they are gonna grant me one). I kind of have an idea of the problem here. Well to wrap it up, wag muna isipin ang citizenship sa contrata muna lalo na pag ang work mo is farm may minimum na bayaran lang sa bunk houses(nasa sa iyo na ang pakikisama) mag establish muna ng may magandang ROI sa Pinas gamit ang ipon mo dito.Wag muna isipin ang citizenship.if you are sure that you have a secure and sufficient ROI back home. Then you can start investing in Canada for a stable ROI so you could buy a very good house and an extra income kahit na minimum wage earner ka.Then you can start bringing in your family. Kadalasan nagkakaproblema kasi pag naging PR or Citizen na ,dinadala na lahat dito. Ayun nagkakaproblema na kasi need na extra job. Just trust the process, wag tipirin masyado ang sarili pero dont live in excess din naman.

Family doctors in Quebec are being phased out permanently. I moved to Italy (Sicily) one year ago. There are 4-5 family doctors in every neighborhood. The way it used to be in Quebec. I am a senior that saw the bleak future. The corrupt system would have stuck me in a snake pit senior home for a small medical issue, left unnatended because of no rehab or social services. People are dying, waiting for operations. Loved my home, had to go.

I think people immigrate with the wrong notion. I did the same I immigrated to Germany before I moved to canada and to all the the people who complain, no its not any better there right now my friends in Europe have the same complaints high cost of living, growing house costs ( a room with no bedrooms and worst than a basement in canada costs 1500 Euros). This will pass as the economy picks up. Moving to canada expecting people to welcome you with a job paying more than 100k and buying your first BMW is not a great reason to immigrate. I moved for a better lifestyle ( clean air, great nature, trails and richer lifestyle) canada still offers these but you have to move out of the mess that is toronto and vancover. I understand why people land in these 2 cities as they get the maximum publicity outside canada but as the video suggests try moving yo saskatchewan or Manitoba, it's definitely not toronto but it's not Delhi or Manila either and you do have a very very good lifestyle compared to the 2 cities. I know it's hard right now hang in there and if you are on a PR guess what you can go back to your countries and come back when this crisis is resolved.

I'm fedup living here. Came 1975, 14 years old. My hardship >> cold, racism, parents worked long hours hardly home. As a family we did alot of volunteering in the passed 35 years. This country is all about work, pay bills and high taxes. Our children can't find jobs, OMG house prices and interest rates crazy high. wages low, every thing is expensive. Taking advantage of international students...etc. Most Immigrants working so hard, not much time to enjoy family life. Even with a good education you will have this to deal with>>> Skin-tone bias affects racial equality at work. My children not happy in their birth country. I agree it's time to leave Canada.

I know Canada is knew for his good quality of life. But if you are the first generation of immigrants, life will be hard here. In my parents time, immigrants expect to work 50 hours and in restaurants, factory or construction sector. This is how irish, italien, chinese, etc came here and build their life. The second generation are more integrated, have their degrees and share the country ideologies. But now, the new Immigrants are shopping for new life and expect to have a IT, health specialist, corporate jobs directly as soon they had their feets on the new land. In Canada, if you are not from Europe, most degree won’t be recognized. A lot of educated immigrants choose to study and get a quick degree (like if you were a engineer back in your country, they will study in a college degree to become a technician) but they still find it hard to get a good job in their field. Most immigrants don’t understand why their application are rejected or they failed the interview think as they have the required degree and are ready to be a hard worker. They failed the social integration test. If you got an interview, it means on paper you are a good candidate. Now, in the interview they want to validate your experience and especially the manager will see if you will fit with the rest of his team meaning. Are you social, are you manage conflicts, are you a team player, how well you communicate, do you have leadership, do you need accommodations (they are not allow to ask question about religion but doesn’t mean they don’t take it in consideration) etc … the less problems he has in his team, his day to day life as a manger is easier. My family has immigrants to Canada, I’m the 5th generation… the last two generations are now established in Montreal.

Canada mostly attracts immigrants from corrupt countries that are overcrowded, where there are few opportunities to get ahead. To people coming from these countries, Canada looks like a paradise. But many barely get by and are forced to live in crowded accomodations to be able to afford it.

As an Englishman that lived for ten years in Canada, and 60 in the US, AND went back to Canada in 1018 and went back to the US in 2020, I will say why I left, mainly two reasons, but about 4. 1. It is really cold, 9 months of the year. The first snowflake that falls I. SEptember, is still there at the end of April. In the US , IF it snows, it will be gone the next day. Temperatures will go into the 50s a day or two later. 80 below is rare, but minus 20 f is normal. Even Canadians stay inside. 2. Big one here...they will NEVER venture outside of perhaps 2 or three friends, are YOU are not one of them. When I was in the Canadian Army, in a 4 man room, no one spoke to each other for four years. I tried, as a 17 year old to be friendly, and they started a rumor I was queer. Why else would a man speak to another man ? When I went back in 2019, my apartment was across the street from a Legion Hall. I would buy several rounds drinks, got thanks pal !.. but when I tried to join 3 men I HAD SERVED WITH, at a 5 seat table , they looked at me like I was nuts, and moved to another table. They apologized, and said they were mates. 3. Taxes are about 50 percent, cars about twenty on a purchase. 4. Health care. As a citizen, I had Ontario health care, and veterans support. 4 doctors offices had signs outside.." if you are a new patient, do not even come in. We are not seeing new patients. " I went to the local hospital for emergency care...sign on door .." if you are pregnant and in labour's, do not come in. We have no anesthesiologist " ( I am a man, but gave up ) I drive 12 miles south to a New York hospital, and got taken care of immediately. ( no charge, as I have Medicare, $ 120 a month). Also Canada Customs are bullies and idiots. I could go on, but it will be a cold day in hell before I return. I loved Canada, but that Canada is long gone.
