In the campaign in Battlefront II I was just blown away by the huge battle on Jaku. All the ships and fighters flying around and fighting was just breathtaking and the ship exploding while you were in it was also pretty cool.

A little known fact here!: the executor didn't just go down when the bridge exploded, it went down because a rebel squad had destroyed the main engine from the outside, so when there was no control at the bridge it just steered towards The death star, the book is called Lost Stars btw

it's really weird that bridge gone = ship taken out. It's stupid to have all these important systems relying on the command bridge to operate, without secondary/tertiary systems in case of bridge failures. Also why is the bridge always so exposed? why not put it in the middle of the ship and cover the ships entire hull with massive amounts of well protected camera's etc. You could create the exact same same view, and actually probably a much broader view (360° and different viewpoints etc). Definitely from a military standpoint this doesn't make any sense. Are these ship designers morons or something?

I understand that Luke and his father took the tram to a McDonald's during this time and watched a short 90 minute movie. In the Blu-ray addition of the force awakens, they were supposed put that bit back in The extras section. But the piece was so long that the Blu-ray started to bleed into the red Spectrum and they had to cut it out again.

About the super star destroyer: First, you have to take out the shield generators, which takes dozens of fighters fighting and dying over time before they do so. Then, you have to kamakazi directly into the bridge with a whole fighter. Then what do you get for that? A few seconds of the ship veering off course maybe, until another area resumes command functions. But - IF - you happen to have a massive moon-sized object right next to it, and it happens to veer in the right direction, then it could hit it. That's a lot different than saying, "oh you just take out the bridge and the whole thing is destroyed".

The Shields of the Executor had been destroyed, which took a lot of firepower. Yes believe it or not those orbs on the Star Destroyer take quite a lot of firepower. We see they take only a few hits on screen, but offscreen they are most certainly hitting those hundreds of times before they are weak enough for proton torpedoes to effect it.

A question for a next video: Could bullets fire trough lightsabers? Or: Could a normal machinegun kill a Jedi or Sith easily? xD

Actually the Executor was not taken out just by it's bridge being hit. In legends and books it talks about how one rebel pilot was a female imperial defector who had worked on the Executor previously. She saw it at Endor and knew that even if they hit the bridge there was a back up bridge deep in the heart of the ship. So she and a few other Pilots started shooting at her engines under the back end. This was enough along with the bridge explosion to bring down the Executor. with it's deflector shields and engines destroyed and the Death Star pulling it in with gravity nothing could stop it from falling into the second Death Star. Please write back.

Heh! I actually sat in the pilot's seat of the Millennium Falcon! I worked pretty close to the studios where much of the film was shot, and a friend worked there, he showed us round. It was a WOW day. Met R2 and C3PO ( uninhabited at the time) and all sorts of other goodies.

The Executor "falls" toward the Death Star not because of a gravity well, but because it had no helm control and (thanks the Lucas) happened to veer toward the space station. All things being equal, if it was due to gravity wells, The moon of Endor would've pulled the Executor down toward it considering how much more massive it was in relation to the space station. The Executor would've done a slingshot flyby of the Death Star and then plunged toward Endor. What kept that from happening was the fact that the Executor's engines were still functioning, but nobody was directing navigation after the bridge was destroyed.

Everything produces it's own gravity. Even your body does. I don't think the Star Wars makers have been too concerned about that. They didn't give a fuck about physics I guess.

Still can't get over how stupid it was to put the bridge up on top of the Star Destroyers. If you want to see how it's done, check out a schematic of the Battlestar Galactica. The CIC, or bridge, was in the deep center of the ship. The most protected area. Right above the med bay, where hurt people are kept. Makes sense to protect those two areas the most and it removes that ultimate weakness of "just take out the bridge." Great video though!

And I must say that was really informative. It makes me wonder if they should consider scaling down the sizes of vessels, especially if it took the Emperor two hours to reach the core!! That fact alone could play well into a theory that surely the Emperor could have regained self-control within two hours and thus may have evaded dying. Not a major hole in the Star Wars story line but one must be addressed depending upon the degree of accuracy the Writers/directors/producers wish to achieve.

I've also seen sources quoting the ISD2 at 5000 meters and the Executor at 8000 meters. Also some people say XWings are a little larger than modern fighter jets, others make them a little smaller and more compact.

Not just the Death Star, but all objects in space have 'pull'. Even molecules. The more massive (or dense) the object, the greater the gravity.

I remember being surprised when I first read the second DS was so much larger. From watching the original trilogy, I had never had the idea that Lucas or anyone else intended to convey that.

Star killer base?

Neat stuff. I'd love to see the scale of some of the larger rebellion ships, the frigates, heavy cruisers and what not. The Corvette that features in Ep. III and the beginning of Ep. IV would be neat to see too, as I just happen to really like that ship. With the new movies, Starkiller Base is an obvious choice, both compared to familiar celestial bodies and to the two Death Stars. Plus, if I recall right the Star Destroyer designs look to have been upgraded. Finally, how do some craft compare to real life craft, things such as the B-29, the Graf Zeppelin, the 707 and the An 225? Might add some depth to the comparisons that would make them even cooler.

When a young guy analyses the reasons behind the special effects of a film made in the early 70's, he makes assumptions based on nowadays special effects. When the Executor collided with Death Star II, I was always under the impression that it was steered into it. Basically damage from the A-Wing hitting the bridge put it into an unrecoverable, full-speed turn into the battle station. Or it was in the process of making a maneuver, the A-Wing hit and that maneuver became permanent because there was no one left alive (nor controls to operate) in order to pull it out. If gravity were the answer, the Executor would have been pulled into Endor which undoubtedly had more mass than the Death Star.

according to the wiki, the second death star was in such a low orbit that it actually needed active propulsion to maintain that orbit. It's possible the executor was partially drawn in by the gravity of endor as well
