Brands promise software updates to a lot of their Android smartphones but the real picture is very different from the commitments and the promises. We have analysed 229 phones from 18 different brands that launched in the past 2 years in India (2024, 2023 and 2022) and the results are very surprising. Some of the brands are doing exceptionally well, some are good and some are just worst.

Dear beebom, i have a feedback. Please do give a little more time when you show those tables like in 0:30 Some are too quick, just a few more secs per table will make it a lot more pleasant. Yeah there is always the option to pause the video but, we should also be able to see the table at a glance while the video still continues. Some tables were a little too quick to disappear. Thanks for this video. It was a very informative one!

I am using a mid range xiaomi phone which was launched in 2022...what surprised me though is the fact that some of its midrange phones which was launched in 2021,already got hyper os update and mine which is much newer than some of these phones is still stuck at Android 13, December security patch...I am facing some major issues with the phone's software and I really hope that they provide hyper os update as soon as possible.

You missed quite a few updates this time. I updated my dad's IQOO Z7 on 18th January 2024 to Android 14 stable and received another minor update last week. Another phone at my home - Realme GT Neo 3T got Beta Android 14 build first and within 2 weeks got stable Android 14 around last week. A friend of mine also got first a Beta build and within 10 days of that a Stable build of A 14 on their Realme 10/10 Pro - I don't remember the exact model right now.

Using Samsung A52 for more than 2 year. very happy to get Timely OS And Security updates and phone is still feels new. ☝️What I understood is that Prefer global models, the models that sells in many countries, not just in India or Asia. Because those models usually gets more care from companies. For example Samsung Z, S, A series are global models.

Slight correction at 3:12 - The OnePlus Nord 2 (last data entry in the table) is still on Android 13, and that is its last major update. That means a 33k phone when launched got only 2 major Android updates. It does receive timely security patches though.

Correction. The budget Samsung phones since 2017 get 4 years of security patch update. For example, the Galaxy J5 & J7 Pro that was launched in 2017, get security patch updates until mid 2021

Vivo x90 has received Android 14 update in December 2023. Vivo is very active in pushing updates to its flagship devices.

Moto's Achilles heel is the software update. Other than that, they have great phones. Damn it hates to be stuck at older versions , so irritating as to tolerate even with ads for this situation.

In 2023, I choose the Pixel 6a over all other Chinese phones in the 25K range. The phone is still remarkably fluid and smooth even after a year.

Is there a reason why brands don't provide long updates? This is because providing OS updates adds costs. For example, TECNO and INFINIX, they have good specifications at affordable prices. Providing OS updates for 3/4 years will increase costs

Correction: On OnePlus 12R (Indian Variant) it's on the December security patch not January patch.

So, ROG 7 is currently with November security patches, but the older ROG 6 is having December? ROG 5 user here, as usual November security patches with Android 13. From my experience, this phone was launched with Android 11, I think it won't go beyond 13 anyway. Still I would say even though Asus is a bit late, but their OS upgradation never came with bugs and glitches

my thoughts exactly, i use a moto phone for the clean software experience but hate that we get only 1 os update. makes me apprehensive before i do my update to the next phone that i will be using for 3 or 4 years

1:10 it does.. My vivo s1 came with Android 9 out of the box.. And ended out with Android 12.. Which is 3 years of os updates.. For a phone costs 16k at 2019.. thats a lot .

3:58 HyperOS is whole new code so it takes time, anyways i am so so happy with HyperOS A14 in my Xiaomi POCO F5 🥰, specially the customisation and smoothness is better then my S22 and heats also less 🥰

I've used Motorola phones for about a decade now and now I will never again just because of the lack of OS updates. The devices are best when comes to price/performance ratio ( overall ), but it just sucks that you have to deal with virtually the same os for the smartphones entire life.

Being a 3+yrs OnePlus 8T user, experience in security and OS updates has been degrading every update, in first year, delay of approx 1 month (acceptable) were observed which only got worse the 2nd year and Android 13 based Oxygen OS (sadly same as color os 13) was rolled out for me 3-4 months after launch of One UI 3.1 (based on Android 13). Now awaiting the last Android 14 update (which is still in closed and open beta testing yet) So overall ok ok experience, but not the same as expected after paying almost 47k

Flagship phone users do not use their phones for 7 years. Phone makers know it. 2ndly, technology evolves real fast, and despite of being upto-date software update wise, the phone will still become quite obsolete in 7 years.

No, tech in smart phones isn't evolving anymore, atleast from a hardware point of view. Smartphones have matured and stagnated for the past few years now in terms of hardware, same 5000 mah battery, same notch every year, etc. Improvements are coming, but only as software features, especially AI. So, the 7 years of updates do matter.

I am using Google Pixel 6a 😎😎 Google and Samsung are doing very well. I just hope Motorola you should be doing efforts and provides the proper update. Because I really like Google and Motorola smartphones because of Stock Android. I don't like custom UI.
