I use Meguiar's Plastix for cleaning and polishing and then Meguiar's headlight restoration and they come out as clear as yours . Also I let dry naturally but not in the sun they dry to fast they do need a 24 hour curing time with no humidity and temperature around 70 and then they will be perfect.

For me, I think a lot of the headlight compounds are good. But you can't beat 3M, their reasonable price and years of science behind it. CG's products are great, but here in NZ, they're very expensive, they're seen as an 'exotic' American brand for car enthusiasts.

I noticed you are using speed 2 on your Ryobi drill when you were sanding with the P500 disk. How long should you sand this and will it overheat?
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro Жыл бұрын
Yes I go on high speed I wouldn't recommend that for somebody who's not used to it it took me months to transition into doing this... You have to know when to do it and when not I would advise starting on the slower setting or feathering the trigger a lot more which I am doing but might not be noticed.. when going this fast you always have to keep it moving for not to overheat as far as burning and stuff you'd almost have to be trying to do it but it's much easier at the same time on certain areas like corners or Sharp difficult pieces to do...

If they take their vehicle thru a tunnel wash twice a week I imagine the paint if full of scratches and swirl marks. If you do paint correction you could probably sell them on that too.

Yes true.. harder to see on certain paint colors these people had a particular crimson or burgundy color that really didn't show too much of it also the clear coat is a lot harder than the headlight coding... So it happens like 20 times sooner or fix it 20 times worse...

@theheadlightrestorationpro

Not at all .. never do something like this.... It falls under double coating.. and also you could run into adherence issues... I'm more than likely it would be irrelevant one would cancel out each other... It would affect your light output and also your clarity.... Ceramics really don't belong with headlights anyway you put it... Out of all of the Optical Plastic restorations I've seen your work looks to be of the highest quality, loving these videos and have a few questions.. Down here in New Zealand (NZ) All of these consumables are available, apart from the P500 Gold 3M Discs (00912) we can however get 00913's which are P400 Gold Discs or 51263's which are a P600 Film Disc (Identical to the P800 you use but P600..) For the initial drill sanding step which of these would you recommend if you couldn't get your hands on P500 Gold Discs? I can alternatively get P500 discs from a band called "Netto" here but I am yet to confirm if these use an Aluminum Oxide media or not.. When sanding Polycarbonate do I strictly want to stick to Aluminum Oxide and Silica Carbide medias or is this not important? Excellent videos with informative content and like I said, the highest quality of work I have seen! Keep it up brother 👊 Sorry for the lengthy question but why would I ask anyone else?! 😂

All of my personal vehicles get thorough sand and polish headlight restoration as you advice Then straight to the professional PPF shop for high quality, UV protection, self healing. Don't understand why people still use any sprays?!?!
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 11 ай бұрын
You will understand.... Give it time.. sprays or set it and forget it and much cheaper much more durable as far as any kind of raps you're going to have a lot of issues with.. you'll probably be back to that shop numerous times... From peeling, our bubbling, water getting underneath it, cut around the long term side effects, overheating which leads to permanent damage, and my most personal favorite diminishing of light output due to the thickness and multiple layering.. falls under one not to double coat...(video now streaming) It's not widely practiced for many reasons.. customers end up hating it..(I know this from experience with my own vehicle in the past) and it's not practical for all vehicles.. meaning more of those negative effects listed above what happened much more frequent with certain vehicles and or not applicable to certain vehicles when twist and turns and bulges and fins and dips in the headlight which many modern vehicles have... This is just a couple reasons why it's not widely practiced... Headlight restoration in general and spray coating is what I like to call the toilet paper of headlight restoration... Metaphorically.. Same reason why toilet paper is the perfect vessel and the most widely used for wiping/cleaning your ass... That's in perfect denomination.. I call it the toilet paper effect... You can have these expensive bidets, kind of Gross thinking about this shit getting sprayed around everywhere, expensive as well, you can use wet wipes, but the fuck your drains and the septic system up... Hell you can vent a robot or pay a person to come out the wall to wipe your ass if you got that much money.. far less practical for effectiveness, time, cost, friendliness, portable ability, manufacturing and effectiveness.. This is why toilet paper rules worldwide.. So pretty much this is why and this is why we'll always continue to rule... It's the toilet paper effect... Wrapping a headlight is not... This is also why the factory doesn't wrap vehicles they paint them.. Example.... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fa-pg5lqvLjbhXU.htmlsi=YC4u8Xnhg6ul2Jqj

Thanks. I did watch that one earlier. Had forgotten that you covered coating after vapor. My misunderstanding may have stemmed from watching 3d printing vids about vapor smoothing where they infer that it isn't so much a coating process, but a chemical polishing/blending or even melting action. I don't have the experience nor the chemistry background to backup either idea. I followed your regular vid for m '02 caddy and they look great! One mistake I made was forgetting that you told us to only use ONE coat of Meguires, so it looks like I'll be redoing them sooner than expected.

Hi, just curious to how you mention not to clear coat a restored headlight because of damage, cracking and sh1t. But the factory clear coats the headlights when you originally buy them. What is the difference?
@theheadlightrestorationpro

Very confused about your question and have no idea what you mean...🥴🥴🥴🥴
@goldenbear31
@goldenbear31 9 ай бұрын
Well, you mention to not use 2k clear on prepped headlights for many reasons. I was just wondering what the difference was between the 2k clear one would put on his headlights vs the clear coat put from factory. When vehicles come out from factory clear coat on headlights they last at least 5 years. Is that because the polycarbonate is fresh and new and has zero degradation?
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 9 ай бұрын
@goldenbear31 okay still a little bit complicated but I'm hearing what you're speaking about I believe.. yes headlights last longer from the factory... I think it's because it's the original bonding.... You should never put two k clear on a light it's not designed for headlight... What the what the factory puts on a headlight is nowhere near 2K clear for most vehicles... They use something that's designed bond to plastic which negates 2K clear because it's not designed to bond a plastic it's designed to bond to paint and other things... But yes I believe it's because the headlight is freshly made...

How much do you charge for this type of service? Ty
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro Жыл бұрын
It's dependent on many different variables like year make and model of vehicle and or level of degradation of headlight.. If you want to know what people charge in your area is probably the better question and you would have to look that up yourself.. the going prices change from City to City just takes a state and also can be set upon skill level..
