Correction:
2:58 This map should have been labeled “Germany and Occupied Territories” to reflect the extent of the German army’s advance in December 1941.
3:01 This map mistakenly includes the territories of modern-day Bosnia and Herzegovina and Finland as part of German-occupied territories. These nations were aligned with the Axis powers but not under German occupation.

of course it is. a lot of ads are. i just saw one youtube for a shampoo bottle that fixes hair loss. if that worked, influencers wouldn't spend 4,000 dollars going to turkey to get a surgery when a shampoo bottle that costs 24 bucks magically grows your hair back. I think all ads ideally should be obsolete, that if you want to buy a product, you just research for it yourself online instead of being interrupted in the middle of a video with an ad for something you most likely won't get.

Johnny I ask you as an Australian to fix this massive error in your map. At 3:33 you show the entirety of the South Eastern part of New Guinea as occupied by the Japanese, including Port Moresby!! This is incorrect! Australians, Papuans and American airmen fought tooth and nail to defend the Owen Stanley Range and the approach into Port Moresby along what was known as the Kokoda Trail - and importantly we didn't fail in this endeavour! It's a disservice to the sacrifice made here to present the map like this. What's even more insulting is that this error is still present even by 10:19 when you're talking about events in 1944 and 1945!! How do you think a good portion of the convoys were raided around Rabaul without the vital airfield in Port Moresby?! This video will be seen by so many people so I implore you to make the necessary changes, please. You have a duty when telling history to get it right, even if you're not specifically mentioning this campaign. If you're making a 'MAPPED' video the maps have to be at least correct. I apologise if I may seem rude, that is not my intention, I am just simply fed up with the history and sacrifice of nearly 10,000 brave men being ignored. Please make the changes Johnny. Accurate maps can be found on the Australian War Memorial Website or alternatively through Dudley McCarthy's official history which is free to access on the Australian War Memorial website.

The reason Japan attacked Pearl Harbor is because the U.S., Britain and Netherlands launched an oil embargo on Japan in 1941 due to their actions in China. At that time Britain controlled Malaysia and the strait of malacca, the Dutch controlled Indonesia, and the US controlled the Philippines. As a result, Japan had no way to import oil from anywhere to propel their economy and war machine. The only two options for securing oil were attacking Russia, or attacking Indonesia. Indonesia fit their broader vision of an Asia for Asians led by Japan, so they chose that option and preemptively struck out against the US to buy themselves time to conquer south east Asia (which they did) Their hope was that the US would not commit to a total war with them over Pearl Harbor and they could secure their gains in South East Asia.

My grandfather joined the Burmese Independence Army led by General Aung San. He was trained in Japan and Formosa (Taiwan) before the Japanese invasion of Burma (Myanmar). He used to tell stories on how fearless the Japanese were, they respected eachother, but because of the wrong ideology of the time most of the Japanese soldiers didn't treat the locals faily. If they treated better than the British, the entire country would fight for the Empire of Japan. But, for a time they did, until in 1945 when General Aung San switched sides to the Allies. My grandfather fought the British and within a few years he was fighting the Japanese. If Japan had won we would have our monarchy back, a Burmese Prince was already arranged, but since Japan lost the war and Myanmar got out of the Commonwealth of Nations, the British made sure we plunged into a Civil War without end. We started fighting with Pro British regiments just a few months after independence in 1948. The civil war has not ended.

Being an Indian, we fought for both the Allies as well as Axis. But even the people on the Axis side knew that once Japan won, they have to prepare for the war with Japanese. Interestingly, people who fought for the Axis are way more respected in India than people who fought for Allies. Even more interesting was the people who fought for Allies consider Japanese to be an Asian and thus didn't wanted to fight and also consider World War 2 to an issue away from Indian affairs and thus didn't wanted to participate in it but once they realized that Japanese were brutal. They changed their mind. The opposition to Indian taking part in World War 2 stopped.

It's amazing to see how the US and Japan, after a brutal war, have built such a strong relationship. It shows that reconciliation is possible, even after unimaginable suffering. It's also worth remembering the reconciliation between Germany and France. Even after a devastating war, they found a way to move forward together. Thinking about the conflicts in the Middle East, it's clear that both Arabs, Palestinians, and Israelis need a similar path toward peace. We can learn from the past, like prioritizing common goals and building trust through dialogue, to help everyone move towards a more peaceful future. The US-Japan relationship is a beacon of hope, but we must remember that lasting peace requires courage, perseverance, and a willingness to compromise from all sides.
@grubmg

I totally agree - but just let it sink in what the US had to do in order to get the Japanese people to reconcile since the Japanese were hell bent on continuing the war even at the expense of their own population. Cutting off supply chains, hundreds of thousands of civilian casualties and two nuked cities. When the world remembers what it takes to get suicidal nations to reconcile it might allow Israel to actually win the war so that we can get there.

They couldn't feed their frontline troops, how could they feed an expeditionary army?

Sorry the replies to you are so inane, so far. I will only add that the Soviets did not invade the Japanese home islands, nor did they need to consider a naval option. We need not examine all the diplomatic and military records of the time; if we just looked at this Johnny Harris video we're all supposedly watching, we would see that Japan held large swaths of territory on continental Asia right next to the USSR. The Soviets did invade, but they just took Manchuria and thereby "getting to Japan." To "yes and" your actual point, it was not just that the USSR invaded Japan, but up until that point, Japan thought the USSR could help negotiate a conditional surrender as a neutral 3rd party.
@pdpgkeeper
@pdpgkeeper 6 күн бұрын
If you looked at Soviets’ actions and motives 2-3 decades following their campaign against the Nazis, they were clearly about to go after Japan’s territories beyond what you might be expecting. Japan can’t survive if they are cut off from resources outside of their current borders. Bombing alone would’ve taken longer for them to surrender. Again, crazy to fathom, but just look at the casualty rate when they were not responding to the allied forces’ demands for surrender.

Did the US do some grand strategy and cunning maneuvers to defeat Japan. It was more of a big guy fighting a little guy. Japan did not have the resources or man-power for a long sustained war against the US. Japan could not replace losses as fast as the US. Even if Japan destroyed the aircraft carriers at Pearl Harbor and won the battle of Midway. The US would have just sent more. The war against Japan were 111,606 dead or missing and another 253,142 wounded. Even if the numbers were double that the US could afford to sustain those losses and just keep sending men and war equipment.

Betterhelp is built on the fact that you can text your therapist any time. This has made many therapists who work for them distressed, as patients can interfere with their lives. This also means that their shifts aren't entirely set in stone.

This is your friendly reminder that better help got caught and sued by the FTC for selling confidential information that was protected by law. Just remember when you use better help you’re not a regular customer at a regular company. Your a PATIENT you have rights to privacy that are protected by law and better help was caught violating patients rights. I’m sure some people have found good therapy with better help but the sad part is that those people are the exceptions. The ugly truth is better help is a scam that sells your private information, violates patients rights, and does way more harm than good

Johnny, have you considered investigating the new construction US housing market? The big tract-home builders (Pulte, Lennar, DR Horton, Dream Finders, etc..) have unified on insane contract terms, even preventing freedom of the buyer to post on social media... Horrible warranty and many of them now own stake in the companies doing the warranty service.. Also lots of games between the "partner lenders" and builders.... discount points and origination points being misallocated for kickback money, bait and switch tactics near closing, etc... So much goes on

Can you do a deep dive on the Naking Massacre and Unit 731? I feel like these 2 topics from WW2 don't get enough attention!! Although I do understand it is a dark and sensitive topic.

Probably should do a deep dive on one major war atrocity Japan committed on each of its colonized or conquered lands. Compared to all the attention Germany receives and people's knowledge about their atrocities, not many know about Japan's terrible acts during the war.

Honestly I’ve only read about Japans war crimes and I don’t know if my heart could take a video. They made Mengele look like your friendly neighbourhood doc.

I really wished you talked about the Japanese version of the holocaust. They had some similar racist views as the nazis, did horrific human experimentation, and murdered as much as 30 million Chinese people. The government denies it, and people don’t talk about it very much. It should be remembered just as much as the holocaust.

Excellent overview of the Pacific war. One correction: it is not true that "nobody" thought Japan would launch their attack; General William Mitchell and others predicted it, but few believed them.

*Our most astonishing feat as a species to date, besides language, I think, is that we can summon to the deserts of this planet the light which burns at the center of the Stars themselves. Not bad for anthropoid Apes. I mean, granted as soon as we do this we then plot and scheme on how to bring it down on the heads of our enemies - that's not our noblest trait... but the fact that we could go into matter and rest a secret like Atomic Fusion from it, and then carry that out, is astonishing* - Terence McKenna

It is a part of the American mythology that the bombs stopped the war. It was not the bombs, but the threat of Soviet invasion that made the emperor surrender. Oliver Stone has made an excellent documentary on this, with documentation from the Japanese side.

We can debate on how much the Soviet invasion and Atomic bombs contributed individually, but essentially both were key to ending the war. The bombs were necessary for civilian leaders to realise the war was lost while the Soviet invasion was necessary foe military leaders to realise the war was lost
