Cool! I've got some cyrtostachys renda seeds germinating on a heat mat right now! Hopefully they'll sprout!

We grow hundreds of them in far north Queensland . But as they are an Equatorial palm , they do not grow very well much south of Cairns in the far north wet tropics . Enthusiasts have grown some in Mackay south to subtropical/bordering on tropical Brisbane but most eventually die from prolonged cool periods if not from lack of watering. There are some half decent specimens in Townsville ( north Queensland) which is tropical however most seem ratty and unhealthy in appearance and many have also perished from winter cool spells .

I’m trying to grow them in central fl we will see if it works heard they don’t like temps in the 40s we get about two weeks a year in the 40s

How did it work out ?
@Maatson_23 күн бұрын
@@AVMAR they made it till the spring time and then died after the weather started getting warmer it was either not enough water or the last cold. I’m going to try again but this time keep them in my koi pond so they stay moist . when temps drop to the 40s I will probably put them with my soursop since I have to build a temporary green house for them they also can’t take temps 40 and below .

@@Maatson_ How often did you water them?
@Maatson_22 күн бұрын
@@AVMAR every day but slowed down in winter to twice a week . Or if the dirt was a little dry.

We’re in Keauhou west big island and I have four clumps that are older. I’m trying to revive them from neglect. Had wild passion flower vine and a lot of dead stalks. I pulled all that stuff out with the rest of the dead debris, and now give them water regularly. The keiki on some weren’t even touching the ground cause the clump has grown up into a mound. Can I propagate the keiki by planting them in soil? I heard they grow like a rhizome. Similar to a bearded Iris. What else can I do to bring them back to life?

Yes you can! They love water and sun. Give them soil and I’m sure they will grow for you. Aloha

They need lots of water . If the roots of the C.Renda dry out it is going to die . Keep moist at all times . I have been to Kona twice and I know how dry that side of the big island is compared to Hilo , so water them well every few days . Regular applications of seaweed liquid fertilizer and liquid potash help them grow strong .👍👍🏝
