I hit a bomb of a drive today taking my right wrist from extension and just before impact, flipping it to flexion. It is a flip, yes. BUT it is a flip that occurs thru the ball, so it is essentially a flip post impact.

Thanks John. I really appreciate it. I guess what’s the point of showing half of the information of a motion that’s moving at incredible high speeds. One side has to match up the other to create the release the entire motion has to be understood in it’s entirety. The real reason why you have never seen this before is because people don’t know about it. And all the can talk about is a bowed left wrist.

This is very insightful, I have been a handle dragger forever and only recently have been trying to develop a proper release. So I thank you for the info and video. I played nine holes after watching and the positive effects on my swing and the increase in distance while seemingly swinging at 50% were amazing. I also wonder, would this release be the same thing that Mike Austin was teaching?

Thanks for the feedback Ed it’s always so good to hear. To be honest I don’t really know that much about Mike. When I did this video some people mentioned that. To be honest I haven’t found where he spoke about this. I think he didn’t want that much lag I believe. Like throwing the club away. Maybe that was his feel? - I like a big lag angle if possible. I think it might seem that I use similar philosophies in my teaching. But to be honest I don’t know enough about his stuff.

Looking at those videos as the hadicaps get better, to me, the most notable change, is how the right arm fully extends past the ball. Actually, both arms. The higher caps have a bent right arm past the ball or even a left arm chicken wing. The energy is being “held back “. The pros release all of the energy and the wrists have to let go as well past the ball.
@CraigHansonGolf
@CraigHansonGolf 3 жыл бұрын
The rotation actually helps to straighten the arm it plays a big role in that. The less wrist and forearm rotation the more it breaks down into and after impact.

It seems it would be impossible to think of shaft lean and the release simultaneously. I believe this must be a result of the left arm softened and connected to left side allowing the right hand to release the way it looks here.

I video my swing all the time. I have done so for years to try and get rid of the flip. At slow speeds I can achieve shaft lean at impact. However, when I speed it up it seems like centrifugal force takes over and throws the clubhead early creating a flip. No matter how hard I try, with all my strength to keep my wrists from flipping I can't stop it. What do you think about the forces that are created that are taking over?

Hi Craig. Your stats on the angles of inclination of pros' shoulders at the top of the backswing at 40 degrees + and impact at 60 degrees +, compared to amateurs who get less steep as their handicaps increase, and the drills you give to help us get those angles closer to the pros, are incredibly helpful. My question is about the measurement of a line drawn through the shoulders from a face on view, through impact, when the arms are fully extended towards the target, I guess when they're about parallel to the ground. If you did a measuremenet of the pros in that position, would you see pretty much a straight up and down, twelve o'clock to six o'clock line from lead shoulder to trail shoulder, in other words a fairly vertical line, as opposed to amateurs who never get the trail shoulder that far rotated at release, so that they're more like from three o'clock to seven o'clock or thereabouts at full release?

That's very interesting Craig and makes huge sense.. I do get soo confused though ! Are the wrists actively creating this ' snap ' release ? ( Rather than happening naturally ) and is there not a coaching ' thread' about the release being controlled by rotation and that the face isn't rolled at all ? As I said not doubting you at all just get confused !
@CraigHansonGolf
@CraigHansonGolf 3 жыл бұрын
The wrists don’t do this naturally it’s a by product of junior golf lots of talent and heaps of practice. The more you work on it the closer you get to it. The closer you get to reaching your potential. The coaching on KZfaq apart from a couple of coaches is really really bad even some of the people with heaps of followers are producing incorrect information. People follow it because they have lots of followers. It’s human nature to believe and follow something that lots of others follow. Always was the case and always will be. Mark there is so much junk out there so many talking heads! Really sad because it’s hurting golfers and not helping. Theres always rotation In a release. Stronger grips shut faces have less weaker more neutral grips more but there’s always rotation. Follow evidence based video

Craig , I've been mulling it over ! Just wanted to clarify one more point ( yes I know I'm being greedy ) so there is shaft lean at impact but I think your point is that the club is in the process of being released with the wrists . @@markwalker5523 the club is in the process of being released. The ability to create large angles and not have the face of the club miles open is where the average golfer really struggles. I have just tried to move my wrists like this and after a life time of heavy graft I just cannot move them like that. The tightness in my wrists is ridiculous.
