For anyone who doesn't know, the only reason Nessus' blood was poisonous was because Heracles shot him with those arrows that he coated the tips of with the poisonous blood of the Hydra from his second labor.

Fun fact: before remarrying, Heracles did some revenging (which involved multiple murders and sacking Troy) got himself sentenced to two more years of repentance labour to a different person, easily wrestled Thanatos (the Literal god of death) to the ground and almost got into a fight with Apollo and that’s not mentioning the gigantomachy.
@videogollumer

Care to elaborate on the child murders you speak of? Also, did the Gigantomachy happen before or after Heracles got promoted to godhood?
@sonofcronos7831
@sonofcronos7831 Жыл бұрын
@@videogollumer heracles invaded Troy, Elis (the kingdom of Augias, the guy of the previous video), and the kingdom of Euritos, he made war with them and eventually killed most of their sons so maybe is this what the guy is talking about. The gigantomachy happened while Heracles was mortal. The giants were indestructible as long as a especifially mortal hero did not hurt them, because they would became mortal again and could be killed. Actually this is why Zeus fathered Heracles, to make the perfect hero to help the gods against the giants. However each author puts that history in diferent points of his life, but was during his mortal life.

A common misconception or just difference in other depictions, is that he held up the sky, but a very common depiction of atlas is that he wasn’t just holding up the sky, he was holding the entire galaxy, doesn’t make much sense but I find it kinda funny he just was…..holding reality itself, which was depicted as infinite in Greek mythology

It is odd if ya' think aboot it how Hercules kinda won out over Heracles as the name most people say, because that's basically the only Roman name I can think of that's like that. For the most part all the other major Grecoroman mythological characters either go by their Greek and Roman names interchangeably for most people or there's a slight Greek bias if anything. Zeus/Jupiter, Poseidon/Neptune, Hades/Pluto, etc., people generally play it pretty fast and loose with all that stuff. But it's almost always Hercules as opposed to Heracles. I wonder why that is...

I don’t think it’s Disney. I’m pretty sure Disney picked the name Hercules BECAUSE it was the more well known name. I think the name Hercules has been used in English literature a lot more. I dont know man during the gigantomachy (that happaned before Heracles death), the hero saved Hera from the giant Porpyrion who tried to... So actually even trough she tried to screw him one billion times he still saved her, so you could use that as a reason of why she pardoned him. Actually there is a lot of greek characters who pass trough some "character development". Like Atlas was released by Zeus or Heracles in some obscures passages, and was humbled by that since he was the proudest titan. Zeus himself did not like Aphrodite because she screwed him by making his love life a nightmare, so he commanded Eros to make Aphrodite to fall in love with a mortal (Anchises), so that she could see have her own venon, and after that Zeus did not betray more Hera for my knowledge. Hera was also humbled by Heracles and she did not tried to screw more other woman or sons of Zeus altroug he did not like to do that.

From my understanding of mythology it isn't so much that Atlas hold the sky/Ouranos. its that his purpose is to separate Ouranos and Gaia so that they cannot produce anymore offspring.
@sonofcronos7831
@sonofcronos7831 Жыл бұрын
That was from egyptian mythology (Shu holds Geb and Nut appart so that they can not reproduce) and some greeks copied into that. But the archaic reason is because Ouranos would fall on earth if nothing was holding him. To ancient people the Sky "flying" did not make sense unless something was holding it. But Ouranos when he ruled the world did not need anything to sustain him, he was by himself. Only after being castrated by Kronos (and thus he sas incapable of producing children anyway) something was needed to hold him. Also Atlas had another job and that was to spin the Sky because the starry night appears to be moving during the night.
