The problem is that these are restaurants that are racing towards their finish. The show is only giving them a cleaned up restaurant to put up on the market, which always happens, or as a opportunity to sue and make up their losses. I never heard of a single restaurant from the show that continued on successfully.
@MisterPuck
@MisterPuck 3 жыл бұрын
Joseph Consoli There are several restaurants that became successful and remained in business long after they were featured on the show. Mostly because they took Gordons advice to heart and continued to follow it after he left. But most of them did close simply because they were in too much debt and the turn around was too late.

After about 10 years in hosp, I'd say yes, that's it. You can't beat good, fresh, tasty food. Doesn't matter if it's simple. One of the all time best sellers I ever sold at any of the restaurants was one of the cheaper, simpler dishes, it just ticked most boxes for most people - cheaper smaller dish but filling, meat free but packed with flavour, I suppose it was just comfort food par excellence. Edit: Forgot to say, it was home made tagliatelle with shiitake & gorgonzola, served with fresh salad & indecently wonderful garlic bread. You wouldn't want it every day but wow, it was good.

I’ve experimented with a lot of different things in the past decade, it’s important to know what your market demographic is. We are around 30 minutes from the city, so fine dining wouldn’t work here. What people want is good food, reasonably priced and warm service, do that and they’ll be back. Try to hard then they’ll come once and never again

I know that from a pizza restaurant in my area. About ten years ago, the owner was forced to close down after it came out that the place was horrible, to say the least. Since its closure, it changed its owner and its name about three times. But with each attempt, you could see that many customers were dissatisfied with the staff and the food. In other words, once you've heard rumours that it was about to close down again, it did. Since about two years, there is another owner in there, but this time it's not a pizza restaurant. And touch wood, it currently has a fairly good reputation.

2 out of 3 close their doors within a year, seems familiar. Me and my little brother were to open our restaurant way back in 2012. But in December of 2011 he committed suicide. I made the fatal mistake of taking a friend and former coworker as a partner and opened our little barbecue place that March with all my recipes and 100% cooked by myself. Opening day was amazing. I had a line out out the door and by the time we closed we had sold literally everything we had in the building. Within 3 weeks I found out that he had been buying food stamps and using them to restock everything. He was more worried about looking like the big man in town than running a restaurant. The one recipe I shared with him? I tossed the whole thing when I saw what he’d done with it. It was garbage. I saw the writing on the wall and by the 1st week of April I packed up all my recipes, smoker, my initial from the sign and I was done. When he FINALLY showed up that morning 10 minutes before we supposed to open? I tossed him my key and told him good luck without my food. He didn’t last 2 weeks. I now know that I went in way too soon after my brother’s death. My head wasn’t in the right place yet. But I knew that I wasn’t going to let my supposed friend pimp me out when literally the only thing he had contributed was his name in the town and his initial on the sign.

@@hiparifu6889 Food stamps are given to poor people by the government. People who can't afford food can take them to a grocer and buy food with them. Food stamp fraud happens when someone buys food stamps from a poor person, usually paying far less than they're worth. Poor people will agree to it because they can use the cash on other things like rent, utilities, alcohol, diapers, etc than food stamps can't be used for. It's very predatory and unethical. While I agree, I also feel that Ramsay as a human being can in fact be wrong on occasion about a person or go to far with his words with some people at certain times. Not everyone refusing to roll over and do everything Ramsay says the way he says it is automaticly hard headed. People can have in fact good arguments or reasons for something, as well as just a different taste. For example in one hotel in some other episode there was this to me beautifull cozy warm red collor on one of the walls and Ramsay called it hideous and depressing (and gave it a makeover I found hideos myself. Also he called rooms in that hotel depressing, but then in the make over painted some walls a dark gray.. which was what was depressing to me. I preferd the old look by a landslide.) and I'm like thats an opinion dude, not a fact. If beds are coverd in stains, food is frozen or raw when served, staff is rude or money is mismanged and vaporates because of it, thats stuff he gives solid advice and critism on and people should listen to that. But when he starts going on about a wall collor or somebody's personal dressing style (like a manager not looking like a boss because he wears shorts, acting shocked when a female owner admits to never having her nails done and not wearing colorful dresses, and more nonsense like that) and he starts projecting his own personal tastes on that I get mighty uncomfortable. Dont shit on people's personal tastes. Thats not his place to judge. Also he has this weird thing for treating ''important'' guests better. Like if a town major or food critic comes along he acts like thats the biggest news ever and puts a lot of unneeded extra pressure on people to perform well for this person, rather then just having the team focusing on performing well in general and just providing good food and nice clean rooms. It should not matter who comes for dinner. A paying costumer is a paying costumer. No special focus or treatment should be given. Just let people focus on doing their jobs. Dont have owners great these special guests while servers do everyone else. Either great all your guests, or let servers great them all. Dubble standards makes it seem like it's ok to do a poorer job with not '' special'' guests when in fact the team should be striving for the best results at all times. Informing your team in such a dramatic way somebody ''imporant'' is comming just makes people extra nerveus and is not at all helpful. I think Ramsay has a lot of solid advice to give, and sometimes ego or hard headed ness can be the reason such advise is ignored. But sometimes people can just disagree because of legid reasons and I feel people who disagree on anything are always portrayed as wrong for having a different opinion than Ramsay on some things, like their preference for their own personal wardrobe or the collors of their hotel bedrooms. Ramsay's objective opinions and subjective opinions should not be treated the same way. He is wrong for forcing his personal tastes on others or when he's being rude to people just for disagreeing on small things even when they are going along with all the importand things. Dont know if this is a tv persona or really him, but Ramsay seems quite hard headed and stubborn as well even at times he doesn't need to be.

@@amberanime You got your core reasons wrong. 1. He's not doing a makeover for your house. He's doing it for a hotel where people come and experience. You complained that the red colour in wall was cozy but Gordon's grey wall was hideous, but you haven't mentioned that he fully changed the decors, furniture's and plating utensils and chose the colour that suits for the furnitures and the place. It's always adviced to have a pale or dim coloured wall for hotels to make the lighting of the accessories and the food on the table pop out. Trust me no wall in any hotels will have full red colour, not even in McDonald's (Which is signature for its red colour) even if I got it for my room. He never pushes his personal choice over them. He chooses what suits the place good. A good example is in the Yanni's makeover. The old decor was good but it was way off to a place where people come to eat and spend time. The new decor he made was spot on and the white wall with greyish blue tint was stunning with the combination of the furnitures. The owners loved it so much that they haven't changed the decor years after it happened. 2. He always offer an option to change the decor away back to normal. See the episode where Gordon made a tremendous makeover to a restaurant and made an insane pool in the backyard knowing the mentality of the surrounding. But the old women owner refused and wanted her old decor back. He did the same and even let them use the menu he made. 3.There was an episode where the owner ran a fancy in but always wore a sweater and unprofessional clothes that she barely washed and hair tangled and loose like a witch. He did made her to do a makeover to herself so that she gets back the confidence in her and also act professional. That's what made customers feel welcomed. 3. The main point to run a hotel or any business is that you shouldn't prioritise your personal opinion into the business. You should choose what the opinion of the surrounding locality. Because you're not the customer, the people in the surroundings are. A hotel room should look appealing but not personal. 4. He never had pushed his personal choices on anyone. In all his episodes he always mentions the surroundings of the place. A good example is in Four Seasons makeover. For the place, the title was so off. He changed it to something that defined the restaurant and even named it their puppy's name. (Remember there's a difference between naming a restaurant with personal names and having a restaurant look personal to the owner. That's why most hotels in say Italy has the founders name yet if you go inside it looks all professional and welcoming). Gordon even went on making a makeover for their Dog kennel behind the inn. He even announced a dog festival near that place each month so that the Inn can get some revenue from the competitors staying in the inn. It was mind blowing how he came up with that plan. The owners who were broke and helpless took Ramsey criticism and was loyal to him. They cleared all their debt, paid high salary to workers with tip and bonus and even afforded to move to a better place with the same idea. Tell me where he pushed his personal opinion exactly. Before every episode makeover he always do the reading of the surrounding and makes design makeover based on that. Not based on his opinion. All of Gordon's Hotel makeover were an absolute success. Its the owners ego that made them move away from right path back to their old self and fail. The loyal and practical minded owners have made insane development because they took criticism as a feedback and not as an insult. Dude, he even saved people from splitting up and united people which isn't part of the hotel makeover. Remember, the hotels are the one that contacts Gordon for help. Gordon even had health problems tasting their hazardous food at times. You're calling him for his help, you're not accepting his critique, he literally makes a plan and give a whole makeover with decorations and food. He even risks his own staffs to teach those chefs, and if you're still mad that he was a harsh critique to you, you're definitely ungrateful and being wrong. He's brutally honest and that's what makes him great. No talking behind back. Id rather trust the one who's being brutally honest to me than the one who fakefully motivates and praise me. You'll probably come at me just for saying that your opinion had flaws. It's not an insult, it's a point out to recheck yourself.

Gordon can be quite acidic and blunt to the point of rudeness when it comes to giving advice, but it's all for a reason... I remember seeing the full episode to this update and it seemed as if any advice given just went straight through Sue's ears, none of it registered. If you look at the amount of resturants Gordon has visited both in the UK and the USA you will see an example of what happens when the owners don't listen..CLOSED. Although to be fair I feel some of resturants, may have simply gone too far into the red to ever pull themselves back from the edge of the abyss.

“Sometimes you have to be able to admit defeat and this one definitely defeats me.” -Gordon Ramsay And THIS is why I have such huge respect for him. He doesn’t require anything of anyone that he wouldn’t require of himself. I love this man!!

This gets me every time in these episodes. Desperately failing restaurant owners up to their necks in debt, home about to be repossessed, can't pay their staff, marriage on the rocks, stressed to the eye balls, reputation ruined, life in the shitter. Gordon points out what the issues are and what they need to change. "Nah we won't change that, we're the best in town, our food is famous" I guess a lot of them just want the free renovation before they sell up.

Pharisees to Jesus: We are dedicated to serving our Lord God. Give me one good reason why we should listen to You. Jesus back to the Pharisees: I am the living God. I brought you all the way here, it’s my job to change things and I’m trying to save you, you muppets.

My thoughts exactly. Free renovation, the publicity of the name on the media and someone to blame.

The ones who honestly listen and follow his outlines and suggestions .and care about what the ruin is doing to their businesses and more importantly to their own relationships- seem to be the ones who prosper and start rising their heads above that slow death of debt and closure.It all comes down to putting your perspectives and focus in order about what's going to make a difference and works to get your rear out of the stress and hell of being on a losing merry-go- round that you can't seem to get off of...

Gordon can only do so much to help a restaurant it’s the owners responsibility to run it and obviously she didn’t do that.

Gordon ramsay is a great guy. Situations like this just make me sad. He tries whole heartedly to help people then they go saying all kinds of bull crap and slandering his name. He deserves better then to be treated like that
