In this rhythm guitar lesson, we'll be taking a look at muting. Being able to properly mute on the guitar is an essential technique for intermediate players. There are a number of different ways to mute the guitar, but in this video we'll be focusing on muting with our fretting hand. We do this by applying and releasing pressure. Muting is really difficult when you start out but I was really into Funk playing so I worked on it A LOT.

Totally. If you want to play funk, muting becomes an even more important skill.

When I played mostly unplugged my muting was so bad. It's still bad, but it was back then too. Seriously though, I still practice hitting all six strings and only letting one note ring out like you showed me a few years back. Great advice in here!

It's such an important thing to learn. And the other muting technique you mentioned allows you to be a little less precise with your picking hand and not be punished for it. Plus, adding nearby muted strings can make the note you do fret have a bit of a thump behind it which I love the sound of. Thanks for checking out the video, Randy!
