It was insane to see the extent of their hatred towards the C girls minus Xiaoting. Yaning, Ruiqi and Caibing will given the obvious villain arc that shifted and changed according to what the public was thinking throughout the show. Beyond this, there were so many small digs that were incredibly unfiar. Poking fun at the twins and using her sickness against her. Pointing out Xingqiao's natural reactions to criticism and trying to paint her out to be apathetic. Even the way they portrayed people like Wang Yale and Wang Zige. The C trainees were doomed from the start. The public were just too blind to see it before it was too late.

I think *xiaoting is responsible for some of this mess. You see, I find it odd that she's the only chinese contestant to make it to the final lineup. I have a feeling that she was working really hard to weed out her opponents through whatever means possible. Most of the so called 'villainized' contestants were mostly chinese. You have yaning with the yujin situation, cai bing, etc. Meanwhile *xiaoting herself was praised constantly, mainly for her looks. This is part of a planned operation to glorify her image on-screen and to denigrate her fellow chinese comrades. *xiaoting must be evil-laughing so hard right now. hahahaha 😂😂😈

7:55 Yes!! The whole reason I watched girls planet was for Xu Ziyin. Her audition wasn't shown at all, plus after she went home she literally said how Mnet low-key sabotaged a lot of Chinese contestants. They didn't give any of those 99 girls a chance to show their talents clearly. They chose the songs they performed for the auditions and gave them a small amount of time to prepare. Ziyin said that she wasn't able to drink any water for 12 hours and then had to immediately go out and perform siren of all songs. To think that literal kids had to go through this too is scary.

Bahiyyih was 100% NOT intended to be in the original lineup. Like they'd always put her in the episode trailers (for views), but then in actual episodes she'd barely get any screen time (which is probably why she was never in the top9 before the final). ALSO all her popularity came from her fancams (which everyone got), and her fans are the ones that spread those around. Even now in Kep1er it's clear that they didn't want her in the group since she's treated like a backup dancer in most of their songs.

I think Cai Bing's case was the prime example of how mnet "pushed out" trainees they didn't want to debut. She was constantly in the top9 until the very end of the series, dropping off after that episode full of mistranslations and being edited to be the villain. They did the same narrative to a lot of chinese trainees that were gaining traction, and left japanese contestants they didn't like with zero screen time. It was such an obvious riggery, but ppl brushed it off because of the narrative mnet created that some trainees were villains, I would even go as far as to say they explored conflicts between the three countries to manipulate the korean public in the final half of the show (hence why that one line up was basically all koreans)
@alanamileras2329
@alanamileras2329 Жыл бұрын
But Doah also said specifically that Cai Bing was not being a good leader in her interviews, so she was being a egoistic and arrogant based on that. And that group had ChiaYi, of Fanatics (same group as Doah), who is fluent in Korean and Chinese and you can see her translating for Cai Bing. So, Cai Bing really was a problem.
@alexandravillar9783
@alexandravillar9783 Жыл бұрын
@@alanamileras2329 imo doah has been one of the most arrogant trainees through all the episodes but even if I liked her and all putting cai bing being a bad leader is one thing, another whole other thing was the way the show edited her to be a bad person (not a bad leader or a bad dancer) with their cuts and mistranslations. Just search for the difference in subtitles (which mnet themselves changed after being called out) before and after they were corrected.
@kpoppy9635
@kpoppy9635 Жыл бұрын
@Alexandra Villar Doah is not arrogant, she is honest and blunt. Which is probably why mnet didn't want her debuting either. (She got praise for her skills but still didn't get much screentime and when she did get screentime, it was only to make the C trainees look bad.) I won't speak on Cai Bings character cause mnet manipulates everything but the fact that her own teammates spoke up when she tried to be leader in Snake team spoke volumes. I don't understand why when she was overwhelmed last time (she said she had trouble keeping up with her own practice and the team's practice) she would try to be leader again. It would been better for her to focus on her own parts and not trying to lead the whole team.
@alexandravillar9783
@alexandravillar9783 Жыл бұрын
@@kpoppy9635 as I said before, I don't blame doah for being edited like that, even tho personally I don't like her personality. I only brought her up bc the first response was talking about her as if her opinions represented cai bing. And after all the shit she got from the mentors it's no wonder her team did not wanted her to be leader again, the snake team already got so much shit compared to others (probably bc it had a lot of Chinese trainees), putting her as leader would be troublesome. And all in all I myself don't think she was fit to be a leader, but I don't think I've saw any other bad leader (which the show had through the episodes, several of them) be portrayed like she did by the editing, and that is the problem.
@kpoppy9635
@kpoppy9635 Жыл бұрын
@Alexandra Villar well that's true. Mnet made it worse than it was. But some people seen to think it was all made up but...there was a reason why the other trainees didn't want her as leader. She didn't deserve all the backlash she got but I think she made a mistake by going for the leader role.

there was also incidents where mnet shuffled/joined different clips together to alter the perception of the girls. The example the comes to mind are the two times they did it to Cai Bing, you can see the inconsistencies in the clips by looking at the background/people around, and how the contestants looks (eg. their hair or if they look like they just performed). and I believe one of the twins talked about the lack of translators for the contestants that couldn't speak korean, which would obviously cause issues for them all. She then added on that all the trainees comforted her after and it wasn't her fault at all. Absolutely not. Yujin,Yaning and Bahiyyih were only a gimmick to maintain viewership throughout the first 2 episodes. All the videos about GP999 are very tone deaf about the national politics Mnet was following. We were never the audience. Koreans,Chinese and Japanese were. C-girls were evil. The twins and Wenzhe were comic reliefs. Xiaoting and Ruiqi were the picks. Throughout the entire show we were reminded how pretty Xiaoting was and how much of a goddess Ruiqi was. These picks blew up in the moment Ruiqi's past came to light. Koreans didn't want her so Mnet had to cut her and at that point of the competition there wasn't any other c girl with a good enough image to compete for top9. J-girls are incompetent. It was the narrative in P48 and it was here. Mnet told us Hikaru is talented and Yurina is a pretty,hardworking girl who makes a cute ship with Xiaoting. This blew up when Jfans didn't like Yurina to the point they preferred Yaning over her. Mnet had to scrap that and go on with Mashiro.

I'm shocked you didn't touch upon how the Chinese contestants from the get go were treated unfairly due to the tensions between Korean and Chinese people. Yes initially Su Ruiqi was favored, but as the public dug into her past and found posts from her weibo where she had posts in support of China (god forbid a CHINESE girl post in support of her country lmao), MNET very obviously caught on and started to edit her in a bad light. Her being shown not hitting the note in Snake, causing her to change positions, the judges saying her facial expressions are "too much" etc, trying to now pull away international votes because they knew she was a top pick for international fans and they no longer wanted her in the lineup because then Korean netizens would boycott the group since they already decided they didn't like her. The only reason the K-Netz like Xiaoting is because she has no posts or history of supporting China and her visual is too pretty for them to not like her. Even still, she placed LAST.....

And to this day they still do not want her in the group, just look at Wadada MV, where she does not get any lines (just background vocals) and is the only member not shown in a close up in the first half of the MV. She doesn”t get lines, doesn’t get center time and is not used as a visual or even a stan attractor. She made it into Kep1er because of all the hate she got and when people were looking into her more closely (via the YT performances and fancams, as Mnet only showed microseconds of her in the show) they realized that she was actually hardworking and talented. That is how she became #1 in 115 countries when the world only contains about 200 countries in total.

I have three things to say: #1: While I think initially Su Ruiqi might have been among mnet's favourites, at a certain point they must have changed their minds, when they pulled probably the second most disgusting evil edit after Cai Bing's on her in the last few episodes, when they made her our to be an entitled brat just because she was tired and yawned a few times. She was a major contender for a spot on the group, maybe even being able to knock Xiaoting out, but she fell a lot after that. Yaning also got scammed for the Snake performance, they gave her an unfairly difficult high note with a choreo leading up to it that made it literally impossible to sing properly, she botched it, and they showed the mentors slamming her. Meanwhile they showed other performances where the vocals were autotuned into oblivion to cover up any mistake. #2: The biggest riggory was the voting system. The 1:1:1 ratio they forced on us for weeks did not only make sure that they'd be left with enough foreigners by the end, but also made Koreans panic for for Korean contestants when the ratio rule was lifted. They also made the Korean votes count more (I think it was 50-50% between International and Korean votes, but just because of how many more international votes there were, 1 Korean vote counted for multiple). This is how they ended up with 7 or 8 (I don't remember exactly) Koreans in the top 9 before they panic released the ranking in the middle of the week. And if it weren't for the Korean votes counting more, we likely would've had a 3:3:3 group with Yurina, Yaning and Ruiqi making it in. #3 This kinda relates to my second point, but it's still mind blowing to me that Xiaoting made the #9 spot. The reason Yurina fell off so bad is because she was most Korean voters' "filler" vote when they were forced to pick a Japanese contestant, while Hikaru and Mashiro had strong fanbases to keep them afloat in the final voting. We assumed Xiaoting would end up the same, despite her getting #1 easily for weeks, because both Ruiqi and Yaning, like Hikaru and Mashiro had a much stronger following. The problem was that most of the following these two had were international voters. Koreans HATED Ruiqi because of political controversies, and Yaning, they were fine with at best. But in the end, when Mnet showed us that there were too many Koreans, and even Knetz started voting for foreigner trainees, Xiaoting was able to climb up and snatch that #9 spot. Sure she had international voters too, but this just goes to show how much more power Korean voters had and how unfair this voting system was to international fans. If they ever reintroduce this voting system I'm not watching another survival show again. I know in the past we weren't even allowed to vote, but I'm sure a lot of us were lured into watching this because of the promise that this time we matter too, only to find out that that's not the case again. Just check out the count of international votes for some of the contestants who made it to the final but not to Kep1ler. I'd rather they not let us vote at all than decieve us like this.

The bambambam was so arbitrary and she still had to do it. The high note was in a better range for Su Ruiqi and she could do it sick - I just know if Su Ruiqi blotched it they would’ve shown like 89 replays of it. The pattern of the greedy-incompetent c-girl they pushed onto Caibing, Ruiqi and Yaning motivated the already super powerful Korean voters to panic vote for their slighted girls. Xiaoting was their only fixed pick. They did nothing real to show any bad side of Xiaoting except a tiny - you’re not assertive enough in HYLT. I suppose she was quite smart as she never put herself in a place to be criticized - both Fu Yaning and Su Ruiqi are better all arounders considering rap-vocals-dance, but they couldn’t effectively appeal with that. As for Yurina… I feel so salty. I was absolutely sure she’d made it. I completely agree with the panic voting suggestion. I kinda feel the Korean swing vote for either Yurina/Xiaoting might have gone either way. Both were mandatory picks due to the one each voting system. I think it might have been the dance specialty that edged Xiaoting in - Yurina was also balanced for vocal/dance but was leaned a bit towards vocals. Dance trainees tend to do better with standing out on these shows.

I think a show THAT long would exhaust both audiences and contestants. By the time they get to the final episode, contestants are always super drained and barely hanging in there from all the stress, constant training and lack of sleep. And audiences are also just tired of seeing their picks struggle for weeks and want it to be over and find out the result. With that many missions and episodes, I think people would tune out and contestants would drop out because of injuries or exhaustion. Produce / GP999 is super intense both to participate and to watch and I think the current length is what people can take at one time without needing a cooldown period to forget about how sad it was to see 14yo kids crying every episode.

I also think the environmental challenges of being on one of these shows is subtle way they manipulate the idols to get negative material for evil editing if they want to tank someone they’re not interested in debuting. By which I mean… just consider the physical challenges of filming. For weeks you’re getting a few hours of sleep a night (if you’re lucky) all the while learning intense choreo and/or belting the same high notes again and again. These big performance spaces tend to be overly cold and dry. You’re getting some stage fright which raises your heart rate, and it never goes away because even when you’re rehearsing you’re being filmed. Even if they’re offering you food (and contestants have said different things about how plentiful it is) you’re probably not eating it either because you’re too nervous or too afraid of it’s effect on your appearance or both. Oh and you’re right to worry, because for weeks on end the entire world is comparing you to your fellow contestants and you get to hear in detail about how unappealing people find you. Now if you’re Japanese or Chinese you probably don’t know how to communicate with the performers/staff of the other nationalities. You’re away from all your support systems from home (and they might have taken away your phones iirc so you can’t leak spoilers but I’m basing this on how other reality shows operate) so you pretty much just have your fellow contestants from your country to talk to. And they keep dwindling, especially when the rules move away from the quota system. Finally, even if you attempt to communicate with other nationalities via a translation device staff will take it away (this isn’t speculation, one of the Liang twins talked about this happening.) Basically you’re being pushed to your absolute limit and you can’t even fully vent it it because, again the cameras are always rolling. Under these circumstances it really does not surprise me that some of the trainees had moments of acting out in ways that seemed immature based on the amount of skill/experience they had. Take the moment swith Cai Bing being stubborn and scatter brained. Honestly, meltdowns like this are just to be expected of anyone going through this grueling/honestly pretty inhumane process. Why am I bringing this up as a factor in rigging? Because I can guarantee you probably every single trainee had moments like what happened with Cai Bing where maybe they didn’t have an ideal amount of grace under pressure. The difference is … some people get those breakdowns aired while others do not. Sometimes they’d even show the less than stellar moments of debuted members but it wouldn’t be incorporated into whatever storyline or theme was going on in that episode. Basically tl;dr if they want to sink your chances, the shooting environment itself makes it inevitable that you will give them something to work with.

I would disagree on Hiyyih, Su Ruiqi and Youngeun. Hiyyih was pretty much only used for her family to boost initial views. They gave gave her almost no screen time that they didn't want her in the group. despite getting some of the decent parts in her groups, they didn't show her progress at all. As for Youngeun, she might not have been top pick for the producers but she had enough character development that had to be in the top of the 2nd pick line. I also don't think Suruiqi was ever a pick for them... maybe when she auditioned but she had too much negativity around her when the show started. I dont think mnet would risk that for a "global" group

i think the rigging was also obvious in the song choices for the first episode evaluation. i think it was the liang twins that revealed the songs were chosen for them by production - its very obvious that mnet's favourites got songs that practically every trainee in the world has sang/danced to (boombayah, black mamba) while their least favourites got way less popular songs (helicopter, hmph)

There are so many vids on KZfaq these days about contestants on shows like Th X Factor (all regions), The Voice (all regions), and American Idol (just the US lol) discussing their experiences and how both the footage and the contestants were manipulated into behaving how the shows wanted. The best example is Zoe Alexander and she has a two part vid about how The X Factor both starved her and kept making her feel like she was just a P!nk wannabe. Then she had a breakdown on stage and they made her look clinically insane for it. These shows will do everything they can to get the content and stories that they want.

I absoulutely agree with this!!! but actually, I wont say Bahiyyih screentime in the first ep as a 'push up' for her to gain more supporters esp among k-netz. Instead, its more like a 'trap'. why? this is my explanation:- In the first ep we can see Sunmi ask Hiyyih about her first name that sounds very familiar. I mean obviously, because she's Hyuka's sister. and then proceed to show her face timing with her brother afterwards. but then when she performed with her teammates, you can see them struggling with the choreo and reaching notes (its not her but most of it are from her teammates, but I can see Hiyyih performance here are just regular too and nothing to be hype about it) which make them judges judging the girls hard and eventually gave them low grades. this actually makes viewers questioning the team's capability. And ofc, Hiyyih was the one who received the harshest critiques as she was introduce as 'Kai's sister' as people expecting her to be as talented as her brother. so that's why people start saying that Hiyyih is only using his brother for fames and popularity (even though right now clearly she's more popular than him). and that's how the hatred on hiyyih started esp among k-netz and even in other countries. Fast forward to the coming eps, everyone clearly see Hiyyih and her cell didn't get any single screentimes and mnet didn't even show the details of how they practice to perform fiesta in details. also from then people start saying hiyyih already loose her popularity when she didn't get top 4 rank in the first elimination ep. what people didnt understand is how the vote worked at that time. like every viewers got a chance to vote for three contestant. and although hiyyih might be a first choice for many people esp hiyyihlights, she might not be the second or third choice for others. for e.g. people who vote for hiyyih as their 1st choice might also vote xiaoting and yujin as their 2nd and 3rd choice, but those who vote for xting might not vote hiyyih. Until the final ep, Hiyyih never get any single screentime of herself, except during performance part and when she sit with other popular trainee. worse, in ep 11, when them trainees do a throwback of their childhood live. out of the 20 remaining contestant, only Hiyyih didn't get any part of showing her childhood photos/videos. but then, at the final line ups announcement, most people were actually shock when she was announce as the top 1 candidates alongside Chaehyun, and start saying mnet rigging the votes again- when its clearly not. on the final ep. viewers can only vote for only *one* contestant. so when it happened like that, everyone started to only prioritizing their ultimate choices. for e.g. those who vote for xting and hikaru as they're 2nd and 3rd choices are now can't do the same, so that's why we can see why their votes drastically fall, esp xiaoting from rank 1 to rank 13, plus the way mnet prioritizing 50% votes for k-netz and the other 50% from international fans makes it even harder for them to secure high rank as k-netz will obviously favoured korean trainees more than c and j group. and the amount of hiyyih received after that is straight up from hell. imagine winning 1st place on almost 100 countries fairly but then receiving petition to kick her out of the group. also not forget to mention rape jokes, racism, calling her as the reason why yurina and ruiqi didn't debut etc. this is all coming from that one moments of her clip on the 1st ep. so In my point of view, Hiyyih's screen time on the first ep brings nothing to her but hatred. if you guys still confused this is the short way to explain lmao: 1. hiyyih joined gp999 2. sunmi ask hiyyih abt her name 3. hiyyih explained + do facetime with hyuka 4. hiyyih's team performed mr. chu (not ended well) 5. received harsh judgement from mentors 6. mnet successfully makes ppl think hiyyih is untalented and only use hyuka n txt for clout 7. mnet proceed to not give hiyyih any screentime in the next ep, even until final 8. hiyyih rise back and slammed sh*t on mnet's face and finally debut in kep1er in conclusion, stan hiyyih and kep1er for clear skin.

I agree a with a lot you've lined out there. When watching the show with a critical eye I also came to the conclusion Mnet was creating the line-up they wanted by way of screentime distributed between a pool of contestants they greenlit as possible members for the group. I'd say there were "core" people that absolutely had to make the group in the eyes of Mnet and the editing would've bend over backwards to keep them in the show if necessary (Kim Dayeon, Xiaoting, Hikaru, Chaehyun, Yeseo, Yujin), high priority contestants (Sakamoto Mashiro, Su Ruiqi, Suyeon, Yurina) and, as you so aptly described, alternates (Wen Zhe, Myah, Shana). I definitely think Youngeun was an alternate who turned out to be more popular than Mnet anticipated. The rest of the girls were definitely favoured, save for Huening Bahiyyih. I do think she was stunt casting and Mnet hadn't anticipated how popular she'd be. Overall GP999 was one of the most predictable survival shows I've watched. I tried to predict the line-up every week and predicted 6 out of 9 correct after just the first episode. Even the girls that weren't almost a lock from the start were still very popular all the way through. It might be upsetting to realise that survival shows aren't the meritocracy they're presented as, it's frustrating to watch that's for sure, but good on Mnet for using the powers of editing to their full extent instead of resolving to crimes.

I agree that Dayeon is really really talented but the reason why she's not that popular is not because of visuals but because she doesn't give that "it factor" to be liked by the watchers. she's talented but she's not eye catching enough like the other contestants.

Now the question I have to ask is why MNET wants to create a group of THEIR favorites if the fans are those who will fill their pockets at the end? I do understand why they prefer to have at least 50% korean members in the final lineup but apart from that there is literally no reason to rig someone in the group who is not as favored as another idol. The only reason I could think of is that they've already planned everything for this upcoming group and certain idols don't fit the concept or don't go well with the other planned idols.

Finally people are talking about this which is, I think, part of the reason why Kepler isn't as popular as other 4th gen groups since viewers that watched the entire program knew that something was extremely off about the final line-up. When they announced it I was in so much shock cause even though I expected some of the participants that were on the final like Dayeon that was clearly mnet's pick , It was still so disappointing to see how people really fell for the evil editing that mnet did specially about the C-trainees. I think this is pretty clear with Su Ruiqi that was popular since the beginning but they clearly didn't want on the show, Cai Bing that was set up by the production to seem like a bad/incapable leader and Yaning who was obviously evil edited since the beginning with the antagonization with Yujin, and later with the "over" confidence of her talent. My pick since the beginning was Yaning since I could see in her the stage presence and charisma that many of the other girls lacked, but since the "We go up" stupid thing everything went downhill for her and she even became a target of attacks from international fans that were watching the show. Towards the end when they revealed that the We go Up think actually NEVER was a big deal and actually Yaning was a very close friend of Yujin (something that they could've revealed earlier) it felt like a slap on the face because although they tried to give her a redeeming arc since they realized she was becoming incredibly popular in Japan, it was too late for her to catch up on votes, particularly korean votes that were against her. It was so disappointing as a watcher see her getting screwed by the editing team since it was so clearly rigged and Yaning had so much talent to offer and sadly GP999 was her last chance at making it in SK. I will never forgive Mnet for that and I just couldn't bring myself fo support Kepler since I feel like the program was incredibly unfair with both Japanese and Chines trainees.

I really think that Dayeon fits the Kepler's concept so that Mnet wants her to be the center of the group. Survival shows are completely absurb. All of the company are actually evaluating each of their trainee if they can fit on the debut team concept. It includes the image they see on the trainees. Mnet just picked some girls that has no connection with the concept. If they want to create a perfect group for a certain concept. They should appoint trainees that can suit the concept they wanted. Just like I-Land, all of the contestant can fit in Enhypen's concept. I hope that Mnet can learn from this like they actually areone of the producer of I-Land. "Dayeon fits the Kepler's concept" ---NO. Kep1er FITS Dayeon's concept. It's very clear that the whole Kep1er concept is designed FOR Dayeon. The reason that Xiaoting and Hiyyih barely get any lines is that they don't fit in the concept. I agree for the survival show is absurd part. Look at what they've done with IZ*ONE, rigging the votes to create a near perfect group with all of the members suiting the young, refreshing, elegant concept. The only members in IZ*ONE who weren't 100% suiting that concept were Eunbi (who is older but can pull off the fresh concept so she was in) and Chaeyeon (who didn't suit KBS but was a strong dancer and had good popularity so she was rigged down to #12). I won't even bother watching BP999 ew

Bruh what even is Kep1er's concept. It's literally random at this point. And even the initial Kep1er concept, imo she still doesn't fit it. She has good balance between concepts but she doesn't excel in any of them.

I would love more videos like this, specially about the produce shows. I want more about girls planet 999 too, about the evil editing and all the tactics used to push candidates
