The Rio Grande Southern #41 Lives, "SHAKEDOWN" Preview 11/17/23

I catch up with the recently “Shopped" RGS #41 on a “Shakedown” run to Rockwood Friday 11/17/23. I chase and pace till after dark back to Trimble. The 142-year-old locomotive looks great and sounds good. More to come, including Pace and Chase "With Tonnage".
The #41 was purchased by Knotts Berry Farm in 1951 and has spent the last 72 years running clockwise around the less than mile loop. I first rode the #41 at 5 in mid 1950's, again in the mid 90's and mid 2000's. It was awesome to see and hear her running at 20+ MPH and pulling a grade.
The #41 was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1881 as a 2-8-0 Consolidation, for the D&RG as #409 "Red Cliff" and sold to the RGS and renumbered to #41 in 1916 and classified as a "C-19" in 1921.

I thought I would never see the day that Rio Grande Southern #41 running on the D&SNG, but here we are. Loved it!

I still can’t believe this happened on D&S the other day. Mainly because I’ve seen it running at Knotts Berry Farm whenever I visited when I was a child, but also cause I got to visit D&S myself just 2 years ago. Those aside, this was quite an interesting video to watch. And seeing 41 running on a line she never ran on during revenue service Plus, kudos to D&S for finishing 41’s recent rebuild and bringing back the very first steam engine I ever saw in operation back to life!!!

Spot on rebuild for The D&SNG I wonder if the Durango and Silverton will have her pull one train before she is sent back to California

@@whitcraft4578 that’s OK no worries I’m glad number 41 got to ride on home rails for the first time since the 50s according to another KZfaq user there was actually no photos or videos of it operating as Denver and Rio Grande 409
