Located in modern-day Iraq, ancient Mesopotamia, the land between the great Tigris and Euphrates rivers, is where it all began. It’s the part of the world where some 6,000 years ago people finally said goodbye to their lives as hunters and gatherers, started farming, and began building civilizations. It’s from these civilizations that we get some of the most famous contributions to world history and culture, from the Epic of Gilgamesh to Hammurabi’s famous code of law, which gave rise to the popular saying “an eye for an eye.”

Despite their absolute cruelty, I greatly admire the powerful, highly cultivated Neo-Assyrian Empire, since their legacy includes the massive library of Ashurbanipal in Nineveh, and because they ruled most of the "known world" for nearly three centuries! In fact, I hold Assyria as my favorite ancient civilization, seconded only by Babylon, Classical Greece, and the Roman Empire...

You're right, we were by far the most warlike and blood thirsty people in history but it's important to note that the iron age was the most brutal era in history and more significantly, Assyria was literally the most dangerous neighborhood in the world as it had no natural barriers. The neighboring marauding nomadic peoples invaded Assyrian towns, consequenctly developing a warlike and violent warrior race in Assyria that would go on the offensive and conquer the kingdoms that once oppressed Assyria.

After the Babylonians and Elamites captured and executed Sennacherib's eldest son Ashur-nadin-shumi, whom he had proclaimed as his new vassal king in Babylon, Sennacherib campaigned in both regions, subduing Elam. As such, I know what you meant. HOWEVER, bearing in mind that I greatly admire and respect the Assyrians, all of their kings were extremely brutal to defeated enemies who failed to surrender immediately. The Assyrians are the copyists of the Babylonians, when the Assyrians settled in the North they began borrowing and adopting everything from the Babylonians. The mention of the Chaldeans in the Book of Genesis is one of the key indicators of when, and possibly where, Genesis was written. The Chaldeans were a group that existed only for a short time (900 BC to 500 BC) and in a specific place: the extreme South-East of Mesopotamia, roughly in the same area as ancient Sumer. They were foreign migrants who originally came from the Levant, possibly as refugees from the Bronze Age Collapse, and the reason they settled where they did was because that region was largely uninhabited at that time, due to increasing desertification of the area. After the 500s BC, they were absorbed into the native population and ceased being a distinct group of their own. The fact that Genesis mentions them as an existing people indicates the authors of Genesis lived and wrote in this time frame 900-500 BC, and probably in Mesopotamia, where the Chaldeans were known.

There's a misconception that iron was superior to bronze hence leading to iron age. No. Iron is much more available hence cheaper than tin(a component of bronze). Iron rusts faster and is weaker compared to the alloy.
@luciansevastru7087
@luciansevastru7087 5 ай бұрын
you are, the convenience of finding iron more easily probably allowed the Assyrians to mass produce weapons and armor, and deploy more armored troops in an era after the Bronze Age collapse, when trade routes were ruined and tin was very hard to come by. So, naturally, this did give them an advantage, for being among the first adopters of this seemingly worse metal. Quantity beats quality in this case

There are two choices when referring to countries in ancient history: 1) The country name at that time 2) The country name today An example would be whether you call France in medieval times "France" or "Gaul" Considering he called it "Babylon" and not "Iraq" it is odd he called it "Israel" and "Palestine" considering that 1. At the time the regions were called "Judea" and "Sumeria" 2. The region only started being called "Palestine" around 100 CE 3. Even if you want to go by today's standards (which would be inconsistent -- see above), Palestine is not recognized as a full member state by the UN

Assyria was no more warlike than any other civilization. It’s a really unfair and reductive characterization. There are so many other things you could attribute to Assyria, like they created the first massive library, built the first aqueducts, had brilliant art and culture, etc. Think about it, are the Assyrians any more warlike than the US? Not even close, think of the counties the US has destroyed, all the lives of innocent civilians; and on a global scale. Look how they targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure in Iraq, Serbia, Libya, Syria, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, the list goes on. Yet Assyria’s culture and contributions to civilization are always eclipsed by this warlike label. It’s extremely reductive and unjustified framing. They were brutal in war, sure. But the world was a bloody brutal place back then, and it still is. Grow up, sunshine. And don’t accept this western centric framing of everything from Asia being automatically barbaric.

Assyrians fell because they were too proud of being conquers until it was upsetting to the God of the Hebrews. The God of the Hebrews, also known as Christ, used Assyrians to reek havoc to other pagan nations, which is why they made sure that they ramped and pondered their temples It is the similar reason as to why the Babylonian empire fell. Read the book of ISaiah chapter 36-37 and the book of second kings 18:13.

The Assyrian Empire did not come about in about 2,600 B.C.E., but rather it came through Noah's son Shem, who was born in 2468 B.C.E.(Gen 11:10) Through Shem's son Asshur (who was born after 2368 B.C.E., two years after the Global Flood, see Gen 11:10, 11) came the Assyrian nation, for the same Hebrew word Asshur is rendered as Shem's son Asshur at Genesis 10:22 and 1 Chronicles 1:17, Assyria at Genesis 2:14, 10:11, 25:18, Psalms 83:8 and Isaiah 11:16 and Assyrian at Isaiah 10:5, 24.(Note: the Hebrew word Cush(ite), Noah's grandson through Ham, is rendered as Cush at Genesis 10:6 and as Ethiopia [Cushite] at 2 Chronicles 14:9) Assyria and ancient Babylon had a close relationship for centuries, being basically separated at what is now the northern Iraq border, Babylon being south to the Persian Gulf and Assyria being north of it in the highland area, with the borders being fluid, changing, depending which way the political pendulum swung for either nation. However, at the height of its power during the 9th-7th centuries B.C.E., it engulfed Babylon, with its territory reaching southwestward to the border of Egypt and west to the Mediterranean Sea and east to just past Sushan, in Media territory (modern day Iran), taking in the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. Note: According to the Babylonian Chronicle B.M (British Museum) 21901, that recounts the fall of Nineveh as the Assyrian capital in Nabopolassar's 14th year of reigning over Babylon [that began in 647 B.C.E.], the Assyrian Empire fell to the Babylonians under the combined forces of Nabopolassar the Babylonian and Cyaxares the Mede in 632 B.C.E., with ancient Babylon becoming the third world power of Bible history, and at Isaiah 52:4, it shows Egypt and Assyria as the first two world powers that held sway over God's people, saying: "For this is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah (God's name, see Isa 12:2, KJV) says: “At first my people went down to Egypt to live there as foreigners[ from 1750-1513 B.C.E]; Then As·syrʹi·a oppressed them without cause.” According to Insight on the Scriptures (Vol 1, pg 201), it says: "Assyria was essentially a military power, and the historical picture left of its exploits is one of great cruelty and rapaciousness. One of their warrior monarchs, Ashurnasirpal, describes his punishment of several rebellious cities in this way: “I built a pillar over against his city gate, and I flayed all the chief men who had revolted, and I covered the pillar with their skins; some I walled up within the pillar, some I impaled upon the pillar on stakes, . . . and I cut off the limbs of the officers, of the royal officers who had rebelled. . . . Many captives from among them I burned with fire, and many I took as living captives. From some I cut off their hands and their fingers, and from others I cut off their noses, their ears, and their fingers(?), of many I put out the eyes. I made one pillar of the living, and another of heads, and I bound their heads to posts (tree trunks) round about the city. Their young men and maidens I burned in the fire . . . Twenty men I captured alive and I immured them in the wall of his palace. . . . The rest of them [their warriors] I consumed with thirst in the desert of the Euphrates.”-Ancient Records of Assyria and Babylonia, by D. D. Luckenbill, 1926, Vol. I, pp. 145, 147, 153, 162. It further said: "Assyria’s religion was largely inherited from Babylon, and although their own national god Asshur was viewed as supreme by the Assyrians, Babylon continued to be viewed by them as the chief religious center. The Assyrian king served as the high priest of Asshur. One seal, found by A. H. Layard in the ruins of an Assyrian palace and now preserved in the British Museum, represents the god Asshur with three heads. The belief in triads of gods as well as that of a pentad, or five gods, was prominent in Assyrian worship".........The religion practiced in connection with these gods was animistic, that is, the Assyrians believed every object and natural phenomenon to be animated by a spirit."(pg 202; Note: Christendom [or Catholicism] did not originate the false religious "Holy Trinity", but absorbed it from pagan Rome, who had its own triad of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, that "formed the triad whose worship was the central cult of the Roman state", 2005 Microsoft Reference Library) And at Isaiah 20:1-6, the prophet Isaiah was instructed to warn of the futility of putting trust in Egypt or Ethiopia (or modern day examples of foolishly placing our trust in any political nation to "save us") as a means of protection against the Assyrian aggressor. In the Bible, militaristic Assyria is used as a "weapon" by Jehovah God against his "apostate nation" of Israel (Isa 7:17-20; 8:4; 10:5; 2 Kings 15:29), as well as representing "the enemy" that will attack his nation of spiritual "Israel" in the near future.(Ps 83:8; Micah 5:5, 6), as well as representing the people from which Jehovah will gather as some of his people in these "last days".(Isa 11:11, such as Nazi Germany, the former Soviet Union, and now Russia)

In WWI in a British conspiracy, these Aramaic wannabes around Urmia (far away from ancient Assyria), agreed to ADOPT the new ethnic name of Assyrian from the bible. Britain wanted to USE them against Ottomans ans armed with weapons and nationalism (giving them a New old ethnic name). They lost the war and became Trash. he totally forgot or leaped over the Nubian/Kushite empire. worst video on the time period ever, smh it was like talking about the ukrainian and russian war and neglecting ukraine in the story smh. he even shows a wall relief of nubians captured by assyrians in battle but speaks of babylon smh. he neglects the fact that it was nubians that taught the assyrians about horse riding and that they even bought their horses and trainers from kush itself. also the egyptians fought on the side of the assyrians after the end of nubian rule to help them against the babylonian and median threat. they didnt fight the assyrians. the 26th dynasty of pharaohs owed their throne to the assyrian king. and when the egyptian army arrived to help the assyrians, they were defeated by the babylonians at the battle of carchemish in syria. the babylonians invaded egypt but were stopped there. that was the end of the assyrian empire. it was made weak after years of fighting the nubians and also rebellions across their empire. after a short period of time, the persians took over everything ecept for nubia

Idk why an otherwise accurate portrayal is spoilt by an anachronism like calling a region in ancient world "Palestine".. Surely you know that was the name the ROMANS gave to Judea after expelling the ppl of Israel in 1st century AD. It's Latin for "philistine", the ancient enemies of Israel. There were no Philistines even then, the Arabs living on West Bank etc today are .. Jordanians mostly.

The region only started being called "Palestine" in 100 CE 3. Even if you want to go by today's standards (which would be inconsistent -- see above), Palestine is not recognized as a full member state by the UN

@@OshinAttari kindly elaborate as it was the Romans who named it Palastine after the Philistines who didn't exist at the time.
