I hope the artist one day embraces the positive sides of their influence and feels completely positive towards their art being shared and inspiring edits and creations. It's ok to be affected by the negative sides such as having your art copied and mistransformed without permission but it's something insignificant compared to all the good things that they are letting become a huge obstacle to fully enjoying the good things. I feel like people lost the understanding of how memes even started. Memes became a thing when someone posted something on the Internet and others decided they liked it enough to make their own edit and keep it going from there. Imagine it like a family tree, a weird family tree of edits where one edit gets edited and another, and another, etc. with some edits living with no one making edits of their edits, and others spanning a long mile. That is how memes are, and if you post something online it stops becoming something you have any control over and becomes the internets thing to save, change, edit or do whatever with, and that isn't going to stop, so if you don't want that to happen then don't post it.
