I live in Canada and obviously heard about this case…more than a few times. You’re the first person to describe the victims so well though. It was all about them in the beginning and it actually took me a while to realize what case this was because of that. Thank you. This is how stories like this should be told.

This one hit home for me, because I am from Vancouver Island. I was on a solo bike (Bicycle) tour that summer in the same area. A friend of mine called me out of the blue and warned me to get off the road now. He explained; there was someone killing people on the roads. This was news to me, and freaked me out. I did bike to the nearest town where I got myself a hotel and stayed for 3 days. While there, I watched the news closely; when I felt it was safe...I biked home. I did shed some tears; I felt so sorry for those people they murdered, It is such a shame. That being said, I was so thankful to be alive and that I did not cross there path...I would have been an easy target.

I met Lucas and Chyna a few days prior to this... they came into the Thrift shop I worked at. I remembered them being truly in love, their demeanors were very warm and happy. I do hope for peace for their families ❤❤❤

I really like how your narrate these crimes. Most people do it with a dramatic flair or in a simple matter-of-fact voice, but the way you do it with a sense of sympathy and compassion for the victims is quite refreshing.

While I enjoy most true crime, I've realized that the reason I keep coming back to your videos is the respect you show for the victims. You don't sugarcoat things, vlbut you also don't exaggerate details for shock factor. Every single case has been treated with honor and respect. Thank you.

Unfortunately, the RCMP treat the native populace in Canada extremely poorly, hence why Billy was never offered any vest, and initially blown off when he offered to help. They deserve better. Thank you for shining a spotlight on him, I had no idea how integral he was to what happened.

My heart breaks for the 3 victims. They all died doing what they loved but the 2 killers were so heartless to just end their lives because they could. I vaguely remember hearing about this but never heard of Billy. Thankfully he was there to help, and I wish he received more recognition.

This was absolutely so sad and extremely senseless murders. Luke and Chyna looked like they genuinely loved one another and so excited about their future together.

You are the only one I’ve seen to cover this story and did a phenomenal job with highlighting details and acknowledging Billy for his amazing skills to assist the RCMP with their investigation. billy deserved so much more. he literally solved the case, did /all/ the hard work, and they didn't offer him a goddamn bulletproof vest while on an open vessel in an open area, hunting murderers with rifles, nor did they give him credit until effectively forced to.

Thank goodness for Billy’s intuition and skills. I hope that the government has rewarded him deeply for his intense help during this case.

For context as to how awesome Billy is, the RCMP played a major role in putting kids in residential schools (places to systematically eliminate First Nations, Metis, and Inuit culture where many children died and many were also horribly physically, sexually, and mentally abused) but instead of declining to help Billy went and showed them up with exactly the skills the RCMP once were involved in the attempted elimination of.

When you talked about the old man who's a botany professor it really hit me because my mom too is a botany professor, she's in her late 50s and often takes solo trips to the natural areas like woods, nearby lakes, etc Inorder to relax and sometime even collect rare specimens for her students. Her University too is about an hour away in the outskirts and she drives there alone. It made me scared for her life

I live so close to where those three were killed. I followed this case from the start to the finish and had no idea of who the victims actually were. I remember being worried for my loved ones who adore camping in the rural parts of BC where this happened. I discussed this with my parents, made my dad take his guns. This isn’t the sort of thing that happens here. Crime is inherently common, tragically so. People go missing sickeningly often. But spree killers? We just don’t see that. We see drug crime, gang crime, the occasional serial killer, and of course the highway of tears. But you know something? Us Canadians, we aren’t as nice and friendly as the world believes us to be. There’s a true darkness here. And for a country as large as ours with a population that’s less than many large cities like Tokyo or Mexico City, we have some an inordinate amount of truly evil people. My husband, in his youth, was best friends with a murderer and probable serial killer. I’ve met Cody Ledgebekoff, I live in the same town he murdered women in and went to the same school as one of his victims. One of the girls I went to high school with is in prison for gruesomely slaughtering people’s pets, and when they arrested her they discovered her notebook detailing her plans of moving on to homeless people 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙣. She spoke to me once about how she was angry at a girl, her friend or sister -I can’t remember- and her plan was to go to this girls’ school and “kick the shit out of her” and she was laughing as she was demonstrating to me how she would do this. She had inserted several razor blades in the soles of her combat boots. I regret this, but I said nothing to anyone about that. I never saw her again after that, and a few years later I was reading about her in the news. There’s so much more. Too much. Be wary in Canada. Don’t trust the people here too easily and don’t believe the stereotypes.

Wow, I remember loosely following this story and watching the press conference. It was terrifying to hear them travelling through the provinces. The RCMP owe so much to Billy and his integral knowledge. Such an intentional, selfless man!

I cry during almost all of your videos. You really put weight on the wonderful people who were lost. I love hearing all the special things about them and how they lived their lives. But it really tears the heart out. This is only a small fraction of the pain their loved ones must feel. I also thank you for giving dear Billy the credit he deserves. I’m grateful that people like him are in this world.

I know you get this a lot, but I appreciate you giving the victims an equal, or even more, spotlight to these videos.

Beardy is awesome! He did what the RCMP couldn’t. The lack of respect for the indigenous people here in Canada is so disappointing.

There was also a very close call with another potential victim on a remote part of the highway. The man was driving from Alaska to somewhere in the US and stopped along the Canadian highway a little while after crossing the Alaskan border into BC to sleep. He was in his back seat about to take a nap when he noticed a truck pass by slowly and a person with a long gun exited and started to come up behind him while the truck he got out of attempted to be him in. He was able to jump in the front seat and drove around the truck before he was totally boxed in and drove straight home. It wasn't until days later when his friend pointed out the news story that he realized just how lucky he was to be alive. I don't remember his name or what state he lives in but it is quite a harrowing tale to say the least.

I totally know what you mean, but I wouldn’t describe Billy’s tracking skills as ‘basic’. It’s super advanced and requires a lifetime of experience.

i think "basic" is the wrong word to describe native skills. Knowing the behavior of wildlife is no simple matter, but requires learned traditional knowledge in combination with years of experience in the natural wild.

This is quickly becoming one of my favourite true crime channels. Especially because of the way you deal with the victims. It leaves very little room for people idolising the killers and it honours the memory of the victims instead of making them little more than a footnote. Honestly, 10/10.

Thank you for mentioning that he didn't get any type of protective equipment, bullet proof vests especially. But yet he still had the courage to help find them, if it wasn't for Billy and the support of the community and his wife Tamara, these boys may not have been found. I am Australian and remember the tragedy reverberated right around Australia for some time. Photos of these beautiful intelligent wholesome young adults. I remember how his father who is in a very senior position in the police here handled his death with such dignity all while feeling the ultimate sense of helplessness. Such a typical Aussie lad who had the whole world in front of him/them both and had it stripped away - completely senseless.

I've subscribed to you recently and have been obsessed. I think what I love most about your videos is the way you breathe life into the victims. You share who they were, how every living person matters and how they can have a positive impact on others. I think that sets you apart from a lot of true crime stories that focus mostly on the crime itself.

I never find there is an excuse for murder an am quite upset by them. I really commend you acknowledging the the Cree native man and his non-technical skills which solved the disappearance of these young men. So true. I live in BC, and I remember this story. My whole family was following it, and there was a stretch of time where I'd wake up up in the morning and the first thing my mom would say to me was "They still haven't caught those two guys yet." I always thought this was a crazy story, and I'm kinda surprised that it hasn't been talked about more. You did a great job.
