The Rob Arms XCR is one of those rifles I've had an interest in for many years. It's truly a unique rifle that is exceptionally simple yet very well made. The Robinson Armament XCR has an almost cult like following as their owners seem to really love them. We take a close look at the XCR-L after I took it on a prairie dog hunt.

I have an XCR in 7.62x39, FDE color.. Mine is an older generation, with the Billit rails on the front. A bit heavy. The new one is much lighter. Very accurate. I had the opportunity to met Alex Robinson, when I took the gun in for a repair. Not only, did they repair the rifle, but upgraded some parts internally . Very good customer service. Located in North Salt Lake City, Utah
@Andeddu76
@Andeddu76 4 жыл бұрын
This looks nice. Really nice. I like the way of the internal design. Easy to disassemble and something new. Not another AR15. And it seems to work flawlessly. But everytime some US guys say "it's a bit expensive" I could scream. Over here in Germany I paid 2500€ (approx. $3100) for my Haenel CR223. But hey, at least I could buy one before they ban it. It's the same stuff everywhere. Nice Video and a good look for the internals. Keep it up. Best greetings from Germany

Here in the States there are so many manufacturers making many variants of everything - so there is lots of competition in the marketplace. So in a country where I can buy an accurate, and ergonomic, rifle for $1000-$1500, RAs products are very high...especially for a platform which has not been adopted by our/any military.
@Militaryarmschannel

I've handled the Haenel and it's a work of art. Should they ban them in Germany, would you still be able to keep yours as a "pre-ban" or would the government force you to surrender it?

@@Militaryarmschannel hi, as mentioned below, normally you can keep what you paid for. But with "high capacity magazines (anything above 10 rounds) it is different. You are no longer allowed to have it or use it. You are allowed to give it to the authorities and have them destroyed without paying for destruction. Do I sound frustrated? Well, just a little bit. So for any upcoming ban, I guess the authorities will find a way to get our toys. I'm glad you had your hands on the CR223. I was asking myself how this one compares to other AR15s. Are they available in the US? And yes, it is fine machinery work.

@@matthewsaacks6487 I'm not sure what you mean... It's more like an AK if anything. Long stroke gas piston, rotating bolt, etc. I think he even points that out in the video. Obviously it's a novel gun, but the only similarity I can see with an FAL is the left hand charge. The pivoting (shotgun style) take-down is something that's also more ubiquitous and isn't necessarily a unique feature to the FAL.

I see a lot of similarities to the AK in that design. He's correct in that the AK wasn't only, or even the first to use a long stroke gas piston. Mikhail Kalashnikov credited the M1 Garand for providing some inspiration. However, Robinson seems to have borrowed the AK's operating system and refined it both for better accuracy and to allow their multi-caliber operation. The bolt carrier that drops off is ingenious and elegant in its simplicity and makes their multi-caliber system work with no new tools needed. The guide rod sitting directly in-line with the gas piston and being that sort-of telescoping design allows the spring and rod to serve as the "rails" for the gas piston and bolt carrier, not unlike the AR-18 with its twin guide rods. This is nice since you probably don't want steel parts abrading away the aluminum receiver each time the rifle cycles. This happens to be the same reason the AR-18 could get away with its cheap stamped receiver, because all it did was act as a cover. It didn't bear the force of the cycling bolt. Smart design! This thing really is kind of an American accurized AK. One of the things that contributes to the AR15's accuracy is that tight, repeatable lockup with its 7 lug bolt. At least until you break a lug and can't get the rifle open. This isn't going to suffer from any broken lugs and its 3 chonky lugs (like a Saiga) as opposed to the 2-lug AK design (M1 Garand too!) should help ensure more repeatable, improved accuracy. If the SIG 550 is the German improved AK, the XCR is definitely an American improved AK and damn is she a nice rifle. I see some real ingenuity in that design. If the US military ever decides to start replacing M4s with something that isn't an AR pattern, this design should be top of the list. It's American made, it's smart and functional.

@@superboy305 Just as a clarification, I'm in the U.S., not sure if that affects the price. Also, just recently, the R.A. website has gone through some changes. As I type this comment I am on the R.A website just to double check. The prices of the rifles themselves have increased but, depending on what you choose, the add ons are cheaper or $0. That said, the standard XCR-L (5.56, 7.62x39, .300 blk, etc.) originally started at $1.9k and some change, now it's at $2195. The competition model is an extra $200 off the bat. Keep in mind, going from keymod to m-lok increases the price by $100 but, before it was $200 if im not mistaken. The standard XCR-M originally started around $2.3-2.4k if I'm not mistaken, now it starts at $2,550. The competition model starts at $2,695. The add ons of the XCR-M are the same as the XCR-L. And I get what you mean when comparing the XCR, Bren 2, MCX, etc. to the B&T but, that wasn't the point i was making. I was comparing the FN SCAR to the B&T APC-223 because both are $3k. If i had to pick between the two, I'd go B&T all day. The XCR and CZ Bren's are just other platforms amongst my favorites. The XCR, Bren, and B&T are actually my top 3 lol.

A lot of other channels don't give credit to channels that inspire them or share info with them that they use in video. I try to do that. SAS is a great channel and Chris is a wealth of knowledge. I hope to do a collaboration video with him someday. Oh, and Eric and Chad are good friends, I'm not picking on them. Chances are they didn't watch my M17/18 video. You wouldn't believe the number of times channels have done similar videos and released them not knowing the other one did it.

I've always been fascinated by this rifle. I spoke with Alex Robinson and some of his staff close to a decade ago and they struck me as very knowledgable. The ergonomics on this gun are second to none in my opinion. I'm heavily invested in my AKs and ARs, but there are some design aspects of the XCR that I do think are superior. I want to get my hands on one for testing at some point.

Always wanted either one of these or an ACR back in the day. Glad to see them still kickin' and delivering when so many others screwed the pooch on the whole "next gen rifle". I think the design is pretty top tier. But they are pretty rare. If only you could meld some of the ambi features into an AR-15 (I only say that because I have a closet full of them).

zeleni zub yea I definitely see where you are coming from but I’ve got a pile of ar15’s in every length and caliber out there and for the sake of something different 1700$ isn’t a bad price considering it’s direct competition (scar, acr) but the sig mcx and virtis aren’t bad options either. I’d definitely buy this over a high end ar15 and the price of ak’s has gotten absolutely insane wish I woulda bought a bunch of them up 10-12 years ago

@@Ideo7Z It's not 2005 anymore. They almost all function the same in 2020. You have to really work to find a crappy unreliable AR. Most receivers are machines by the same few companies, and the raw forgings come from a couple forges. There has been plenty of anecdotal, and experimental data to back it up. Long gone are the days of needing to spend over $1k to get a good AR.

Looking forward to the suppressor review. In our testing over the last couple years, piston ARs have seemed to meter better at the right ear over DI. I assume this is due to the elimination of the gas venting out the side of the BCG. May want to consider heavier bullets for suppressor testing. It was a small sample size (10 rounds from 1 lot each) but 62gr tulammo 223 metered better at the ear than 55gr tulammo 223 from the same suppressor and host on the same testing equipment a couple minutes apart.

found the XCR because I was looking to build a "different AR" so I started looking at non-standard features I wanted like " Man I want a non-reciprocating side charger" So I found a really good upper for that( New frontier). I've always been a BAD lever guy and then Phase Five kind of blew it out of the water making the bar part of the bolt release which was amazing, Then Teal Blue Bravo was like " hey man, you got a Dremel? check out the PDQ" and with Aero and New Frontier making amazing lowers that are PDQ ready (New Frontier G-4 billet lower is my fave) I was like hell yeah what else would be fun? Folding Stock? Piston? I mean I could just buy a Sig MCX, those are pretty badass, I'd get the piston and folding stock on a dope lil rifle......BUT then Im back to the lame rear charger and Id have to go back to the bolt-on style Bad lever to have the Ambi bolt...... Galil Ace was another cool rifle with a bunch of the stuff I wanted but can't change the grips and it has a reciprocating bolt so it comes a bit short of what I wanted. The AK-20s even piqued my interest but just not what I'm looking for. Then I saw the CZ Bren 2's and I was like OH Man IMO it is neck and neck with the features I was personally looking for Pistons ( short vs XCR Long) Non-reciprocating side charger, Ambi Bolt catch, and release, Cz says the available calibers are swappable while XCR built the rifle on that ability. Considering these 2 rifles pretty much equal from my personal point of view It came down to some partially superficial factors, I like the look of their rails more, and I can put AR grips I like on it, even more, important is the fact that I can get it "custom-built" I can pick the barrel length, profile, and twist, the rail length, muzzle attachment, a few stock or brace options and color choice of factory Cerakote colors. This will be my next rifle %100

I want one of these in my collection, but I personally think that the button used to take it apart is the biggest flaw and that it can be accidently hit especially if used in the military. The pins you push out on an AR-15 works great and I don't see why they wouldn't just do that. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind.
@GreatMercenary
@GreatMercenary 4 жыл бұрын
@@axgreenious9400 You don't take the gun apart to clear a malfunction, even if you did the AR-15 still allows you to do that while not easily coming apart if it is slung on your chest and the button catches on your gear.

Well i think i may buy one. I love how it's an AR/AK on the inside with the AK bolt & piston system and the AR trigger group. Only concern is the bolt release, it's located in the same spot as my arx100 and I've never shot it because i don't want to mess up all the practice i have with my ambi AR's and APC223 since the bolt release is located above the magazine release. It may sound silly but the potential is there
