Teddy, as mentioned on the comments here, your research, content and presentation is unmatched. I saw the 1803 on my dad’s wrist decades ago. It fit his dress & style. This timepiece has been handed down to me as my dad’s mental & physical abilities have diminished. Although the shiny-ness is nowhere near my taste, I wear this precious metal 18K gold piece on occasions for Dad just to keep it running mechanically and in my memory. I will pass it on to my son upon his maturity. Teddy, thank you for featuring this sentimental piece on your channel.

I own a 1803 just when they introduced the hidden clasp, and I absolutely love the watch. I purchased it thirty years ago and serviced it only once and it still is as accurate as the day I purchased it. The watch looks very blingy being all gold but don't let that fool you the watch is very robust and built like a tank and can take a beating. I wear it all the time even when wearing shorts and a tee and can care less what other people think, the bracelet is as comfortable as it gets and just feels good on the wrist.

Its very cool that trends are getting away from giant steel watches and getting back to normal sized gold pieces.

A year ago I hated Rolex and swore I'd never fall for what I perceived to be their garish designs at the time. Nowadays I trawl instagram and KZfaq in an attempt to satiate the way I covet a DD36mm. Truly truly truly a grail piece.

For those of us who are not Presidents of anything. Bulova makes a quartz very, very similar model as the Rolex President. Full top day, side date, it keeps perfect time. I purchased mine on Ebay for 5 bucks no joke, and a nominal shipping fee. It came filthy the seller found it in a box he bought in a state sale, I guess all the crud scared him off. I cleaned it, took me about an hour, put a battery in it, I am wearing it right now. I love watches this one fits me best, it looks great.

Heard a guy say once that when he was growing up he remembers seeing the guys that really out there doing something had a yellow gold president. I would have to agree with him on that.

That was the first luxury watch I ever saw when I was 18. Which resulted in me purchasing a Datejust and the rest is history. Great video.

I have had Rollies for years. I LOVE my 1987 Sub. That said I was about to buy a NEW Sub and realized; I can get a SOLID GOLD President for the same price. That makes no sense in the grand scheme of things. I'm gonna be Tony Soprano. Love your chanel.

This watch makes you feel good, look good and even with jeans and polo, it looks wonderful. I first noticed the Rolex President when Tom Landry would wear it at Cowboys game. Note, no one out dressed Tom Landry. Get one and you will never regret it.

It's an awesome watch. Your network and associations is a hugely indicator whether you can modestly wear the watch. The attention the watch naturally brings would be worth it in my opinion.

I have a 1983 Bark single quick set President with a factory diamond bezel and dial.. When my dad passed away I got his double quick set white roman dial President. My next will be a 40mm President for sure

I have the 1803 circa 1973. Mine is a bit more bling as it has a diamond dial. I love wearing the watch, and I will wear it with just about any type of clothing. The watch draws attention usually with quick glances. Setting the day and date is a PIA so I keep it on a winder. I love the pan pie dial. I love how unique it looks. The one change that I would make aesthetically would change the plexi to a sapphire crystal. My understanding is that it can be done, but I have yet to do so as I don't want to ruin the originality and spirit of the model.

My grand father gave me this 1803 a few years ago. Yes it does get noticed and I'm getting weird looks from people time to time, but who cares it's about you enjoying it.

it is an awesome watch. I was a dream watch for me for many years and finally I bought one two years ago. 40mm Blue dial 18K white gold. It is a perfect watch as all Rolex are. Also very heavy at 220 grams. Since I got 18K white gold, it is not as flash as yellow or rose gold. So I wear it often when I am home, but when I am traveling (I am traveling sales person), of course, I travel with some of my favorite micro brands. currently, I am in Guatemala with Monta Oceanking, Tisell Submersible and my work out watch, Amazfit. Again, Rolex President is flawless!!!!!

I recently bought a 1981- Day Date Ref. 18038. I love it. Its humble size helps it not present as gaudy.

These are Rolex Day-Date’s, the president is the name of the bracelet type. Maybe you mean President as the nickname used for these models in the States. They’re not called that outside of it.

I bought a 36 in the nineties with a diamond bezel never really liked it always felt like a fake just had fluted bezel fitted just gave the watch so much class and originality

I own one (burl dial, bark links) (and a number of other vintage solid-gold and 2-tone watches. It really does not catch that much attention at ~36mm - you can for sure wear it all the time and not be uncomfortable! Rather, it contributes to your overall appearance a little bit, if you dress appropriately. A 41mm with a gold dial might be more ostentatious if you wear it with t-shirts etc.

I'm a fan of the champagne-dial President, but I think you either need to live in Miami or be over 50 years old to pull it off. Some young guys can do it, as it fits their personal style, but many will look like show-offs if it's not done right.

There have been 3 sizes, 36,40, & 41mm. The 41mm or Day-Date II, stopped production several years ago. .There is no other Rolex or brand that has the distinction and looks of the Day-Date. Nice !

My uncle had one of these when I was a kid. He was a head chef at a fancy restaurant here in San Francisco and he made a lot of money. My dad liked the watch, but definitely could not afford one. Instead, he bought a a gold tone Seiko automatic. Although nowhere near as nice, he loved that watch and wore it whenever the family went out and on special occasions. I never liked gold watches and always thought it was for old guys. Now that I'm an old guy, I am starting to like them. But, I'd lean towards a Seiko even though I like the Rolex more.

How heavy is the watch? If too heavy, it may not be suitable for everyday wear.

I bought mine in 2008 in Rose Gold with the domed bezel. I had the correct 'Waves' dial installed at Rolex (they were popular for a while) in Amsterdam, when on a biz trip. I just had it serviced for the first time!

Once I didn't like them. But they grew on me. I bought a 18238, gold faced, bar hour markers. I like it a lot, less flash than I thought and all the better for it. I usually wear a 40mm or 40mm+ watch, but it wears great at 36mm. I like it a little loose on the wrist, I don't like that normally. But this suits it and it fits well, it doesn't fall off around the outside of the wrist. I don't wear it all the time, it's not that kind of watch. But I'm very pleased with it, more so than I thought I would be. PS I'm not a Rolex fan boy at all.

I own Ref # 18078, which has the bark finish, a silver dial, but has only a single quick-set function for the date. Since I wear it daily, the day of the week is always correct. I do agree that having to reset the day of the week can be a pain, but a watch maker told me that winding the time back to around 7 pm and then going forward will change the day of the week. Not as convenient as a quick-set, but better than winding it over and over. The champagne dial isn't to my taste so the silver is my choice. White would also be good. The bark finish keeps it from being too flashy and when the light catches it just right, it's spectacular. Photos don't do it justice so it has to be seen in person to be appreciated. Also, my wrist is 7", so the 36 mm size looks just right.

I guess I feel the same way about this as you do. It’s a cool watch...and a significant one, but it is just too flashy...too attention-grabbing for my liking. In fact, I actually had one of these back in the 90’s, but sold it for that very reason. I replaced it with a TT Datejust on a jubilee bracelet that still fits in well with my normal rotation, and doesn’t demand nearly as much attention. But that’s just me...

I purchase a Rolex 18038, the warranty paper shows 1983. It was sold to me 2 years ago as yellow gold. But it now appears to be rose. Does anyone know how many units they made in rose that year? Of course it’s before the Everose. When I purchased it was newly Polished. Now it appears rose and not yellow. Does this make sense??

They are a statement piece , its just that simple , some wear it and its loud and shouty and some wear it and its subtle and quietly spoken , but either way its clearly saying something about its wearer.
