In this video, I realize that I can't do everything by myself so I hired out for the roofing to be done on the A-Frame! It was a long time coming but it's here! Before the roofing job started, I was out of commission for almost a month because a deer hit me and the truck was in the shop! Crazy times!

Looks great, man =) glad you (and your truck!) are alright, and good call with roofers. A frame roofing is a special kind of dangerous, and if there's any one thing it's worth bringing in pros for, that's it.

you can stick a pulley to the top of your A to lift the next rafter. Just in case someone else will be insane enough to try and lift it by hand

Hi Kyo! I hear you. For me, the trouble was getting the pulley down after lifting every rafter without having to rent some type of ladder or lift to physically pull down the pulley every time. That was the point of pushing up the rafters by hand. But you can do it too. You just gotta boss up, broski! 👍🙏

@@darryldarks I only have one A frame to my name so far, smaller to be fair. Pulley was leveraged 2:1 small and hanged from two hooks so it would hold itself on top of the triangle by itself, used a pole to mount/unmount. First few rafters went up just like you did here by pushing them up but then running out of space that became a problem. Ended up making an a-frame-ish (wider at the bottom) ladder anyway for the roofing which would've helped earlier. Live and learn hahah

Get a skylight with taller surround. Trust me. Also get a Ford or even better a Toyota.

Why, in retrospect, would you have preferred to include a ridge beam? What dis/advantages do see see from either method? Great work 👏

Tahlmark! I would have put up the rafters like 5 times faster. Period. But I didn’t want to stand 20+ feet in the air on a rickety ladder to do it at the time. 🤷‍♂️ But you live and you learn. 🙏👍

Did you consider some dormer windows for the loft? More light is always better! Was it going to add too much cost to the structure, or extra maintenance ?

Hey Tackyman! Yes, I have considered adding dormers but decided against it to keep a consistent roof line. It was just a decision of preference. 🙏👍

Thanks, Dwight! Go back and watch my Lifting The A’s without a crane video. You’ll see, because of the terrain it was difficult to lift up the last few A’s because they’re laminated together. If I’d went with a ridge beam that problem goes away. All of the A’s would have gone up easier (in my case). And, I wouldn’t have needed the roofers help to lift the last two A’s. 🙏👍

Awesome video! I’ve been following since the beginning. What size are the rafters? Did you butt them up end to end then add plywood to hold them together? Bless you brother

J Watson! Yeah, so, rafters are 27 feet long. The roof is an 18 pitch. One board is the rafter cut and the other is the seat cut/birds mouth cut. They’re butted together. Subfloor adhesive, 23/32 plywood, and 2 1/2 nails are holding them together. You got it!👍🙏👍

You probably could of made that skylight work. Your talking a quarter inch on each side to shave off. Whether the wood or the metal 🤔.

Why a ridge beam? What is the advantage of that?

It’s just a enormous time saver but the installer needs to be okay with heights.

@@darryldarks I thought you maybe meant for aesthetics on the interior... How is it a timesaver on build? Do you mean to hold the A frames in place? I see they were struggling with keeping them plumb while installing OSB, so you think the ridge board would have avoided much of that? And what would you use, like a 2x10? (I appreciate you, and your help!) I am buying land in May in Florida, and then will start building a few months later:)

I’m sure this has been addressed in a video already- but what’s the cost of building everything diy/hiring like that?? I’m interested in doing an a frame as well so that’s why I ask lol

That’s a great question. I’ll make a cost breakdown video one day but the short answer is $350-$400k to hire a contractor vs $75k-$125k to diy. Something like that.
