The 2024 Korea-Africa Summit opens on June 4 for a two-day run. Marking Korea’s first multilateral summit meeting with African countries, the Roundtable presents a live special from 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
After briefly introducing the summit’s schedule and events, the special edition looks back on the history of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Africa. Experts specializing in African affairs highlight the rapid development of Africa boasting unlimited potentials and dynamic energy. They also discuss ways for the two sides to build a prosperous future together by expanding cooperation and exchanges in various sectors ranging from construction to resources development, digital technology and culture.

Very knowledgeable panel of guests and brilliant host. I’m very impressed with the overall approach of Korea to dealing with Africa as partnerships rather than the savior attitude often exhibited by European countries. Europeans have exploited Africa for centuries and there’s very little positive development in Africa to show as dividends. Not surprising that many African countries have shifted their focus to Asia. There’s an obvious respectful attitude by everyone on the show towards Africa and they’ve clear understanding that at some point Korea was in the same economic position as Africa. There’s so much that Africa and Korea can benefit from this gathering. I’m hopeful that Korea and Africa will mutually benefit from new trade and investments from now and into the future.
