I sit in a cubicle at work where I don’t interact with others for hours at a time but I discovered a month or two ago that comedy is the only way to make the time go faster. I cannot, however, listen to brainleak at work. Someone will question it when I burst out laughing. So my middle ground is distractable, because it’s mostly just wade’s completely insane and random comments that make me giggle and the rest just makes me smile. Brainleak is not a giggle. It is tears from laughing too hard.

The y2k thing was a real concern with computers getting confused going from 99 to 00. Nothing happened because thousands of people around the world spent a ton of time leading up to y2k making sure the computers were actually ready for it. It's not that it was never an actual issue. It was just handled in time.

As someone with bad knees, I’ll go a bit further than Ethan by admitting that I’m rarely barefoot in my apartment. Fair play to Seán, though, for having no such issue. My _”Personal Ick,”_ as I like to call it, is my stomach. I *HATE* mine! I’m so fucking self conscious that I can’t stand meditations which mention the stomach or belly. I brought up that last point because I love my Calm App. It does help me sleep better, which is why I downloaded it in the first place. But I could definitely do without hearing about my least appealing attribute. What are your _”Personal Icks?”_ I’d be interested in reading whatever the Lovely Leakers feel like sharing. 🧠👀🧠👀🧠👀

I feel Sean's crisis over dying and not having your consciousness to understand that thing so much. I actually talked to both my therapists about that and both of them told me that it would be better for me to believe in something. Doesn't matter what but just that something happens after death, so I don't think about it until I feel so sick I throw up. I kinda envy people that believe in some sort of afterlife.
@glacity

The thing that helps me a little is thinking that it'll be the same as before I was born. I'm not scared of where I was before, not existing wasn't scary. I have a lot of things I want to do now while I'm alive, but when I eventually go back, the act of not existing won't be scary, the same way not being born for billions of years wasn't scary. I also envy people who believe in an afterlife, but I think I'm better off this way. Why care about the environment or pursue the things you love if you believe that Earth is just a waiting room and you'll never run out of time.

56:33 "You have no consciousness to think about the fact that your consciousness is gone" Then that's just a reason to not worry about your own death (if there's no afterlife, that is). As the Stoic philosopher Epicurus said, "Death is nothing to us, since when we exist, death is not present, and when death is present, then we do not exist". 57:14 "Sometimes I get sad because, someday I'll be gone, but things will be happening" Think about it this way: you've already missed out on a lot before you were born. Also, no one knows if the future will be necessarily better than it is now, so maybe dying before really bad things happen can actually be a good deal.

EVERY time the light turned green this girl in front of us was looking down at her phone sitting at a green light. My dad would honk and she literally held her hand out the window like "1 min". So my dad honked again and you could tell she was all frustrated and yelling something but we couldn't hear. The 3rd light doesn't she turn into a gas station to get gas. I'm also an atheist and don't believe in anything after death, but I have a very different emotional reaction to the concept and I hope that explaining my own view might help atheistic/agnostic people who feel scared about death. Personally, I find the idea of your brain just going offline very comforting. I view it as the same feeling of when you wake up after having a dreamless sleep and it feels like you just suddenly transported in time, but without the disorienting aspect of waking up. The universe goes on, and one day even the universe will reach that state of peaceful, eternal rest. No matter how terrible, or good, or average your life is, no matter what happens to your loved ones or hated ones, everyone at the end of their life gets to peacefully rest, and they don't need to feel pain or guilt or suffering. My perspective is absolutely affected by religious trauma, as I find the concept of an afterlife or reincarnation horrifying, even removing any aspects of judgment for sins like in Christianity. And seeing as there is nothing you can do to avoid death, I believe the most important thing isn't stressing over what happens, but making sure that your life and the lives of those you care about are as happy as possible before you go.

Hearing Sean talk about playing Gran Turismo was really nice, it’s not a true sim but it gets pretty close. GT7 isn’t what it could be but it’s still playable.

I want to apoligize to my old Camp Counselor, she told me she doesn't like feet or feet touching hers , and my little teen brain at the time was like "heh wouldn't it be funny if i touched her feet with mine to freak her out" and well I did and Karma struck hard because through the years ive started to also hate feet and feet touching mine and like Eathen I have to like always have socks on. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

Bro, I thought I was the only one that thought death was just it, and you cease to exist, it's so mind-boggling, and weird. maybe its just bc i have ADHD too, but yeah, glad to know someone else things like that, bc i don't believe in afterlife either
