Fittingly for the sort of cat Tugger is - the sort of cat who wants nothing you offer him. Misto offers *exactly* nothing, and it's exactly what Tugger likes about him. Like how some cats never want you to walk over and pet them, but will hop up onto your lap when you're doing literally anything else.

You're not wrong. I grew up thinking he was hot, and I first watched this when I was like 5 or 6 and just obsessed with wanting to own a cat. And I didn't even have any idea what a furry was at the time. I just fell in love with his voice and the fact that he's a damn attractive guy both in and out of the makeup.

Instead of watching what’s going on in front of you, try watching what’s going on in the background. That’s one of the best things about the film. The actors are active even if they’re not the main focus and you can pick up on the relationships and dynamics between the cats if you pay attention.

That's the difference between him and the guy who plays the new Tugger. John Patridge CLEARLY understood his character. He's a sex god. He's a flirt. He's naughty as hell.....and he ENJOYS it. He LOVES driving the ladies crazy. I never ONCE got that impression with the new one.

@@kytrensol9777 If you watch carefully, you'll notice the ball first hits that car the cats are sitting on, before bouncing up and off stage. Misto's arms reach down (to the ball) and then up as it flies overhead (he's even left somewhat dumbfounded, like a cat who's failed to catch a bug)

I watched Cats so many times as a little kid and watching it again as an adult it's like "dang this thing is way more sexual than I remember XD." I mean my favorite part was when the boot falls at the beginning. Used to find it so funny that there's a giant boot. Pretty much shows that whatever parents may think, a little kid isn't seeing those other things :p

The great thing about this musical is that every song describes every cat ever. What cat owner hasn’t had to deal with them lazing about all day but when they’re trying to go to bed the cats tearing though the house on caffeine or when they find a fork out in the yard for some unknown reason. And of course they think they’re in charge of everything while simultaneously breaking everything.

When I got the VHS of this back in the day I always got a kick out of this bit, a cat with the embodiment of 90's rock star magnetism. John Partridge owned this role and I especially love his Mr. Mistoffelees song, listening to the older tracks on Spotify from 80's versions of the plays just doesn't add up to the swagger that he puts into that song and this song.

Teresa I think it’s the way it’s performed rather than the lyrics that put that slant on it. If you just stood totally passively and recited just the lyrics without the dance and mannerisms then at least 50% of what this song conveys would be lost. That’s part of the joy of this whole musical and also why most people have a preference for which specific run of the show they like, because part of who the cats are is the energy that the individual actors bring to them. Also, although the lyrics came from the poems, the story that brought them all cohesively together, rather than just being an anthology of random poems on a shared theme, was only written when it was made into a show, so any subtext and interaction between the cats is only as old as the show, not as old as the book. Bear in mind that the performing arts have long been a refuge for the lgbt community it’s not impossible for that diversity be represented in the performances.

misto being the only cat tugger purposely seeks out is so cute. tugger copies his moves, sings about him for 7 minutes straight and throws a ball at him just to interact with him (or trying to be goofy with him) also tugger doesn’t forcefully push him out of focus like he does bomba or other cats getting in his way/ attention. misto just does whatever he wants and tugger is like 😍😍 yes love 😍😍 it’s just so cute, it’s so gay
