What's your favorite Warrant song?

Hi there! I'm Jani's second daughter, and I just wanted to thank you for making this video. Although I grew up with him, he was in and out of my life and it's cool to see some of the pieces be strung together and learn more about his past that I didn't have a chance to ask him about. He was an amazing father, but he struggled severely with alcoholism and that was very difficult. I've learned a lot from my dad's successes and mistakes, and it's motivated me to become more knowledgeable about alcoholism and how to be more privy to it since it runs in my family - my mom still struggles with it to this day. I'm extremely motivated to not only continue my dad's legacy through occasional music projects and covers of his, but also break the pattern of addiction in my family line and lead a happy and healthy life. If any of you are struggling with addiction yourself or have a family member that's struggling, I hope you all find full recovery.

Maddie, your father was a amazing singer and musician and forget his demons, I am from a small town in England and am now 59 years of age but I still play his music and will continue to enjoy it till the end of my days, be proud of your father he touched so many lives with his music

I found the fact that he had a note reading "I am Jani Lane" on his body when found was extremely heartbreaking. It makes me think that he carried it around with him all the time in case something like what happened did happen.

I saw Warrant in a small venue in the early 90's, I hit up Jani after the show if he was down to smoke a joint. When I pulled out a monster joint next to the tour bus he remarked... whoa, that's the biggest joint I've ever seen... needless to say we enjoyed that joint & that's my Warrant story..

I met Jani Lane after a concert with Warrant, Alice Cooper, and Dokken in Pittsburgh, PA. He was a very nice man and down to earth! He talked with me for a bit, gave me his autograph, and when I told him that I loved his song "I Saw Red", he told me a bit how he came to write it and how it ripped his heart out... Even tho he had a girl waiting on him, he never rushed me or was rude. I cherished that time meeting him and was deeply saddened when I heard of his death. So Sad. He died on the same day and year as my best friend. I'll never forget. May he rest in peace!!

watching these old clips of Jani in his very early days is just amazing, and jolting at the same time. I swear this was just yesterday, Sure wish I could freeze time in 1989 and go back to tell him to please stay with the world as long as possible, He was an amazing songwriter and very talented musician. A beautiful soul finally at peace I hope

I loved Jani. He was part of my childhood induction to music, and I remember him fondly. RIP Jani.

He was such a prolific songwriter. He painted with words and was able to pull at your heart with ballads and rockers. As I matured, my taste grew heavier, but I never lost my live for Warrant. Dog Eat Dog was an awesome album and didn't t the recognition it deserved. It saddens me to know how tormented Jani was. He was a brilliant man

JANI LANE was and still is the greatest singer And song writer of all time. His songs are still saving my life every day when I fill like giving up. Love you Jani. For ever missed

I loved these guy in secret. Lol! I played guitar in a thrash metal band and the other guys in my band hated Warrant, Winger, Poison, etc. I loved the 2 guitar harmonies and Cherry Pie had great songs from start to finish. Great band.

As a younger fan not being able to meet this amazing man I don’t know where I would be without this man

Believe it or not my dad used to work backstage at my hometown fair and Warrant came through and it was crazy because not only did I get to see em live but I ended up hanging out with this girl the whole day at the fair riding rides and before the show that night we had went back to the stage area and she goes hey there’s my dad and I’m like where because that’s my dad right there talking to Jani Lane. Long story short she was Jani Lane’s daughter

I remember the song, "Heaven" came out when I was a senior in high school...loved the song, and still do. It will always give me fond memories of that senior year I had. I started playing guitar myself in the early 90's and learned how to play that song...Thanks Jani, for such a beautiful ballad with such pure lyrical poetry...

I was never a Warrant fan, but Jani Lane was an outstanding singer and songwriter. RIP. He had an amazing and tragic life.

It's so sad how someone so very talented can get used and spit out by this cruel world. He was an amazing songwriter and singer. Fame can be so shallow. RIP

Those were my friends once...when I lived in Placentia Ca. Eric turner used to play guitar on the front lawn while we sat & powered beers. My neighbor Mike Delaney is on the back of that first album thanking his family for musical help

What a beautiful, great man, and he was so so talented. And to think that he was just about to get his life together...addiction and mental issues are a hell of a thing. RIP Jani

Here's a giggle...I had a few good friends that worked in the music industry and on occasion they would offer me tickets to this show and that...one of which happened to be Warrant. At that time I could be best described as a tall leggy woman with hair that covered the back of my butt entirely...the typical leather wearing metal chick...lol... So I went to the show..brought an acquaintance along who was a huge fan and after the show she begged me to get her backstage so she could meet Jani. I eventually relented and away we went. I spotted a chair against a wall and grabbed a beer and sat down...there were a LOT of girls waiting back there..lol.. I was kind of amused by some of the antics a few of them would go to for attention but hey..it was what it was and I wasn't there to judge. So he finally comes out of the dressing room and he's looking around and people are talking to him and I see my friend is white as a sheet..lol.. She comes over to me and starts tripping out that she's too nervous to talk to him etc...meanwhile I happen to look over at him and he's looking directly at me..so I just smiled and kept talking to my friend. All of a sudden she's starts saying OH MY GOD OH MY GOD..HES COMING OVER HERE.. I didn't even look..I told her to relax and let him come and say hello. He drags a chair over and puts it down 2 feet in front of me. So I got up and moved my chair back another 2 or 3 feet. He have me this " oh..is that how we're gonna play this?" look...and from there it literally continued for several minutes..he moves forward I move back. Finally he gets flustered and says " Have i offended you in some way?".. I told him he had not at all..I said that despite my being there and really having a great time at the show..I just wasn't comfortable with anyone getting that close to my space. He looked kind of confused about the whole issue and kept asking me questions like Do you have a boyfriend? Are you a musician or another type of artist? Are you a model?. I finally said "Jani..As we sit here having this conversation, my sweet husband whom I love with all my heart and soul is at home taking care of our 3 babies so I could bring my friend..who is a huge fan..to see you guys tonight" He stared at me for 30-40 seconds..and then he said "Can I give you a hug?" I really want to hug a truly genuine person who clearly has no hidden agenda. It's been a LONG time since I met someone who's REAL"...I hugged him and he was smiley and really sweet and then he turns to my friend and said " Wait right here. I have something for you". And he went back into the dressing room. When he came back he handed her a bag with all kinds of stuff in it. Tshirts..a hoodie..guitar picks..drum sticks..multiple backstage passes including a VIP for all shows...just a lot of stuff. And then he got one of his crew to take a picture of him with my friend on an instamatic camera so she could take it home with her. And so ended the night. What's weird about this is that I saw him in a grocery store 15 years later and he remembered exactly who I was...he told me that he remembered me because when I met him he was going through some really difficult shit and had all but lost his faith in humanity..he started to believe that everyone was just negative and filled with ulterior motives...and he said I kind of restored his faith in humanity a little bit... I later found out that he had only recently caught his girlfriend in bed with his best friend. So maybe the fact that I was not interested in him AT ALL..rock star or not..and that I was devoted and loyal to my husband and children must have struck a chord with him for sure...

My first concert was Warrant Firehouse and Trixter in Charleston SC. Loved Jani. Such a sad way to go. RIP Jani!

Prior to Jani dying at the comfort inn (edit ), he was at the Las Encinas rehab in Pasadena, where I had been going to meetings for years I and a few others ( Steven Adler ) sitting with Jani and trying to help him with sobriety and (Tawny Kitaen ) was there and we all set in the Thursday night meeting together for months , we were all sad when we got the news ,, we knew when he left the recovery hospital that he may not make it 😞💔

Well made video! I met the late great Jani Lane after a concert. He was friendly, cool and sincere about meeting the fans, you could tell they meant a lot to him. RIP Jani 🤘

His tragic story is just a reminder that fame and fortune doesn’t keep the demons away. You still need that solid group of positive people in your life and those midnight callers that anyone will answer for you. Always be that positive energy or that pick up at 2am when they just need to talk. You’ll always be remembered

He was sooo damn cool and down to earth. I met him after a concert and he was funny as hell.

Saw them in concert in 90 and 91 and they were spectacular. An amazing vocal range and creativity that most of us recognized. Ultimately became a victim of the record companies that shifted to think people wanted to hear songs about overdosing and death from no-talent a$$hats instead of partying and rock and roll and motorcycles and fun. To this day there are few songs that rock like Uncle Tom’s Cabin or Mr. Rainmaker. Still give me chills.

I saw warrant at a club in houston and was front row. They were doing a cover of paranoid and I was singing along and he actually handed me the microphone and I sang (butchered) almost a whole verse along with the band. One of my best memories ever. So sad we lost him at such a young age and to such a horrible disease. RIP jani!!

My name is Jamie McQueen here in Michigan. I met Jani quite a few times and also got to know Billy Moris when he played with Jani. I just want to say what a genuine and super nice guy he was! One of the best song writers ever in my opinion! To this day I still have warrant on my play list! Also Jani’s solo music as well! So awesome live! Such an awesome dude! I feel for his family and closest friends.. what a great loss! Ohio boy made a great contribution to music!

I know his nephew and had the opportunity to see family pics in wich he really looked truly happy. It's just so sad that he had family who loved him but addiction took him.

This is heartbreaking. I'm just glad the story was told with dignity instead of being a smear campaign. RIP Janie. I still love your music.

Jani Lane is the on 80s Metal guy that crosses my mind often and I can never hit skip when a Warrant song plays on my Pandora Station. Sure miss this guy, what an incredible song writer.

I was lucky to catch warrant at a small venue in Youngstown Ohio several years ago. Jani was a very funny guy, talking about life in between songs. I went to get his autograph, not knowing how he would react to me, becuz I was close to 50 at the time. He was very happy to sign my ticket, and even sat and talked with me for a few minutes, showing no hurry to be left alone. Great moment for me, and again, he was a very humorous guy, very down to earth!

I am a survivor. Played metal in a CT band called Terra Ace. Most gigs (and practice) was drunk and almost outta my mind. Woke up August 8, 1988, thought “I can’t go on!” Chose treatment. Was told “Since your drinking and OTHER things are so tied to your lifestyle of drinking, you can never play in a band anymore. Heart sank. Still owned 2 guitars and amused myself. Found a bass I’d only heard of, in a pawn shop & put it in layaway. Got it put and discovered there were PLENTY rock stars in recovery and we got together. 34 years 11 months and change, own close to 40 basses, 40 or so electrics, as well as sundry amps and effects. Still play but not professionally. Fly high Janie. I am a survivor.

I was a big fan. My kids remember Cherry Pie and Uncle Tom’s Cabin because I played them in the car all the time. I Saw Red hit home. It was genuine. As a fan who lived the era, we were dying for something, anything genuine. Why I think Grunge hit so hard. We were dying for heart. This story… I see maybe a bit of Jani’s heart. I’m sad, because tragically, he didn’t get a chance to show us more.

I saw warrant in concert with PoIson. I LOVED both bands. I was a dancer and Cherry Pie was my go to song. So when I was able to see them in concert, I was so EXCITED. I was disappointed with Warrants performance. But I knew drugs and alcohol played a major role in his looks and performance. This was 2001/2002. I was very sad to see what addiction did to one of my favorite singers. He walked on stage drunk and EXTREMELY disheveled. He looked like he was homeless and just downed 10-40s. I hope he was able to find peace when he passed. He was(is still) a LEGEND

I didn't expect to like this at all, but Lane's sister's words really struck me deeply, and in a helpful way, as someone who has lost a loved one to alcoholism. I appreciate that and the end-card with a helpline.

I saw them live, and his voice was amazing. SOme of their songs are memorable and still on my play list for the gym

Cinderella is my favorite band of all-time. Warrant and Poison are very well up there.

It’s so heart wrenching when someone you were aquatinted with dies. I knew Warrant back in the day before Jani joined the band and he was a the perfect singer for this band. I always thought he was down to earth! It was also hard to see him deteriorate! Back in the day he was often mistaken for Bret Michaels. I remember that like it was yesterday!

Unreal such a sad story like so many great talents from the 1980’s. It truly was an incredible time to be a teenager growing up. I could have easily lived and died in the 1980’s and I would have died very happy! RIP Jani Lane!

As someone who was a fan of his, and his band, it broke my heart to learn that he had past away, and also, how he past away. Warrant killed it when they played here in Detroit. Whoever was responsible for assaulting Jani Lane in L.A, needs to be arrested, charged and prosecuted to the fully extent of the law. Detroit will never forgot that man, father, son, brother, uncle. We lost him way too soon.

Glad you guys did this video. I was always a fan of warrant but more so Jani Lane his writing he did with Beau Hill l their producer was amazing. I personally Miss meeting Jamie by almost an hour. They were playing Charlotte North Carolina and a friend of mine worked at the hotel they were staying in. I came to see my friend to give her a ride home she says you'll never believe who was sitting in the lobby about an hour ago. But sadly I never got to beat him so I'm just glad people still remember how talented he was even in spite of all the problems he had throughout life. May he rest in peace

I got to see Warrant in concert in 2001. It was pretty amazing. I missed the 80s (I was born in 87), but when I was a teenager, a lot of the bands that were widely known in the 80s were still doing shows. I also seen Skid Row and ZZ top. Some of us missed out on seeing some legends.

Jani could write & sing those songs like no other. I've never stopped being a fan of all Rock bands of my era & continue going to every show that comes to town. RIP Jani & all the Rockers who've passed to young.

I have struggled sad well with addiction it's not an easy life. I commend you for seeing thru that and still loving your father's and obviously admiring him. Keep on continuing your journey. Thanx for sharing this man's story. I also thank you for making people aware of alcoholism n other forms of substance abuse and how there are ways to deal with them if u seek them out n try a different approach. The thing about sobriety or anything negative or harmfull is have to want to stop using n b willing to change your behavior n friends, if it's not for yourself it will never work.

Warrant - the one 80s band that got better when Grunge came out. Their Belly to Belly and Ultraphobic were incredible. Lane also had one of the better voices of the 80s.

Saw them live more than I care to admit and still have an original shirt from the Cherry Pie Tour.

I to this day still have the clothes I wore to a outdoor concert they put on in Sturgis South Dakota while on tour with Poison and the whole band signed the clothes. I will never get rid of them. Breaks my heart that he is gone RIP Jani from a fan forever and beyond

He always had beautiful wives and girlfriends for an alcoholic. We rented and set up some equipment for them in a club in the early 90s when they were on their last leg. They were cool and down to earth and we had some drinks during the soundcheck. Metal was dying out and many of them couldn't fill arena's anymore.

Jani was such a talented man he didn't know how great he was I still listen to warrent heaven has always been my favorite &very well written with so much feeling.🙏🌹💖🌷🌺

He was a great songwriter and vocalist. I really liked Belly to Belly, I think it was their best CD. I still miss him. In The End was my favorite song by them.

I remember when Jani came to Florida and played in the band Dorian Grey, I saw them several times at the local bars around my town here in Florida and they were also in the magazine put out by WDIZ our local classic rock station back in the early 80's(I graduated in 83' and went to the bars to see all the bands touring the east coast of Florida from 81'-84')all the bands were in the magazine, somewhere packed away I still have some of those magazines. I never knew till I just watched this video that Jani was in Dorian Grey! Such a small world!

Jani was and still is one of my favorite rockers. Great song writer and singer. Loved and still love the music of Warrant. I was and still am very sad over his death. I will likely never see Warrant these days. Not without Jani up front.
