Oh my god yes!!!! Definitely agree with you on some of this, loud noises are nerve-racking to me... and even shadows... since I have a little bit of vision I can't see shadows and I swear that they are another person following me or stalking me LOL😱😱😱😱😱🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🙂

Seeing something as something else as a vision impaired person is called Charles Bonnet Syndrome. I have Retinitis Pigmentosa and it happens to me a lot-things hanging on doors are the worst!

YES! Great video! Once, I woke up and my blanket fell onto the floor and I was convinced it was my dog. And for escalators, I always have one foot on the next step so I can feel when it starts to even out. And thank you, no one else seems to understand my fear of bees!

so much scares me too!!! 1. crowds are one of the worst! it's like a writhing wall that has no doors. 2. loud noises and loud places are so unnerving. loud places take away my ears which are my eyes. people forget how important visual clues are in conversation, so audio clues are all we have. 3. angry people. they turn into monsters in my head. guess I've watched too many scary movies. eek. 4. blocked sidewalks. totally agree! the road is scary! broke my ankle in a pothole, so uneven ground is really scary. 5. using the bathroom in public places. just yuk. most bathrooms are challenging with people being inconsiderate with wet toilet seats, toilet tissue on seats (is it soiled?), etc.

Train gaps also make me nervous! I use a cane so I tend to put it out and down on the ground and jump to that point. I also jump wide because I'm afraid of falling through as well. I'm terrified of revolving doors as well!! I avoid them at all costs. And I have to use one I have to be the only one in it. So scary. When cars park on the curbs, or if there's bins, I get aggressive with my cane and smack the car... I will also kick bins out of the way. Shouldn't be there! Not my fault... I didn't see it there! Mwahaha I've whacked many cars... iPhone! And when drunk people crowd about on a sidewalk and you can't get through? I will shoulder check someone, then they feel sooo bad and apologize. They don't realize I've done it on purpose. I need to get my fun in somehow!

I'm visually impaired, one scary thing is being in bed and you feel a loose thread on a blanket and it has gathered up and there is that sort of knot on the end, omg, I have got out of bed screaming the place down thinking there is a spider in my bed.

You are not alone:) The most scary thing for me in the entire world is the dog. Espicially when I walk on a silent street late in the night, I assume every stone or black empty bag is a potential dog which is going to attack me severely:)

Thanks for pointing these scary things out. I hate think its scary when my kids tell me its a spider on the floor and I am like trying to find it to kill but cannot see it. Also getting lost is very scary and I am in my 40's . You basically pointed out just about everything I am afraid of .lolz .

I agree with you totally! I have 10% in one eye & totally blind in the other. My worst nightmare is a hornet, bee or wasp. I can't see them until they are right in my face. I can hear them tho. Just wrap me in bubble wrap please! Often I see something in the distance up ahead on the sidewalk. I think it's something totally creepy until I get closer to it or it's something totally different than what I think it is. I also hate winter as everything is a blur of white. Best type of day for me is cloudy but not bright, during the fall or spring. Summer's are hard too because of the brightness of the sun. I have night blindness too. One time the city bus didn't pull right up to the curb. I took a step & fell between the bus itself & the sidewalk! The driver did come out & apologize & helped me up. I couldn't have said it better myself, especially the bugs, our eyes playing tricks on us, ice, low hanging branches, sidewalk clutter, & bicycles! Oh yeah, and trains! Many years ago, I visited Berlin as an exchange student, and we almost missed our stop. I was the last one to get off the train, and it STARTED MOVING as I was trying to get off! I was so scared! Where I live, the first train fatality was a girl whose arm got stuck in a train door & she got dragged to her death, so all I could think of was that! Also, as a visitor to London, UK, the tube platforms drive me nuts over there! Here in Canada, our platforms tend to be level with the trains, so I really struggled with not knowing how far I'd have to step up or down! I had a sighted friend with me who'd at least tell me if it was a step up for down, but when you're not used to the stations, it was nerve-wracking, especially when you're trying to get off as quickly as possible & have your white cane in one hand & your luggage in the other with no handle to hang onto because the door either doesn't have one or because your hands are full! And loud car nosies freak me out, because I've actually been hit by a car, so I panic & worry it's going to happen again!

I totally understand a ton of these; buzzing, open flames (mostly like gas stoves), falling under a train was a fear when i was younger. For me crossing streets (at pushbutton crosswalks) bugs me a lot, even with the cane. Oh yeah, the curb thing sucks too. Puddles are more annoying than scary, especially when i run my cane through a big one and it splashes ALL over me. You are so not alone!

Hi! I have a 4 year old daughter that has septo-optic dysplasia and optic nerve hypoplasia! She has nystagmus in both eyes and as well has hypopituitarism. Hearing alot of things your scared of is alot of things she's scared of as well. I came across your video here on youtube when I was trying to look to see if I can find people here that have the same condidtion. I feel more normal having watched this. I avoid escalators like the plague unless they have yellow edges. The cane can't find the step until it's turned into a step which means I'm stooped over convinced I will somersault down it. Meanwhile half of London is huffing with impatience behind me. I avoid tube stops entirely that don't have lifts, it's that bad. Also can't handle revolving doors my uni had old fashioned wooden ones that got faster the harder people shoved them. I once got spat out the building by the doors spinning against the back of my head I did hate the dentist but now have an amazing one who tells me absolutely everything.

I relate to so many of these!! The buzzing and loud noises especially!! One time I refused to go in my bathroom for three days because I kept thinking I heard buzzing in there. I was so paranoid. I don’t run and scream though, I just freeze and freak out. And for the loud noise My mom and I ride a tandem bike and at one point 20 really loud motorcycles rode by us when we were going up a big hill and I freaked out so bad.

In Denmark you can get a rubber thing to put on your shoes which helps you not to fall on the ice. I don't know what they are called, and they aren't pretty, but they can make it safer when the roads are icy :-)

Thanks so much for this video. Some of the things you've said have reassured me because I thought it was just me. I hate puddles too, they just look like massive holes in the ground and cyclists who just come up behind me and whizz past are scary. One day a female cyclist actually rang her bell to let me know she was coming up behind me and I was so grateful I almost cried.

I hate buzzing noises too, and bugs in general. Loud noises are not desireable and I jump at them if they're sudden. Ice is a pain and I always wind up stepping in puddles, particularly when I have a new pair of shoes it seems. When I was a kid in particular and still now somewhat I was very scared of hights when in a car or bus. I'm fine on my own two feet but in a car where I don't have any control, well, forget about it. I'm fine with airplanes, though. At one point I was scared of elevators as well and that I'd be the unlucky person to wind up in one that breaks or falls. That's entered my nightmares a few times. Of, flames. How I hate you. I don't mind bonfires and such but when it comes to creating flames myself I'm skittish. Once, when I was sixteen, I poured too much lighter fluid or whatever on the grill and the flames shot sky-high. Never wanted to grill after that no matter what kind of grill it is. Also, a year or so later, I blew out a cheap candle only to have wax fly up and literally cover my face. Luckily it didn't burn me or harm me in any way or get in my eyes since my glasses were on but still. It took me years to blow out candles willingly and I still flinch.

#2 is very true. I'm missing peripheral vision down low, so catching my shins on things like benches and fire hydrants is something my brain has taught me to be really, truly scared of. Every now and then, however, I will mistake a shadow or change in floor coloring for a bench or ledge and completely freak out for no reason.

My grandmother has been visually impaired since toddlerhood, but this isn't about her. When the lights are turned down, when I lived by myself, I would see shapes of things and forget what was there (I wasn't the cleanest person in my 20's) and it would scare the mess out of me. I'm actually searching for more resources for the blind for her and my mother who turned legally blind at age 55. I love your video and your upbeat personality so I'm subscribing to your channel!

Now I'm just binge watching all of your videos. It takes a lot to make me laugh out loud, but this video was cracking me up! Buzzing noises, matches, revolving doors, escalators, etc all freak me out so much!! Your point about train doors made me want to ask... Do you often travel on the train alone with your guide dog? I'm a 23 year old cane user and I'm about to move away from home to a big city for the first time. It's kinda scary. Haha. I've never done traveling alone. You're inspiring to me.

Buzzing oh my gosh yes!!!!

Still new to your channel and looking at these videos. I also love this one. Oh Lord Almighty! Bicycles. Back intothousand 10 it was at night and as I understand bicycles need to have a headlight on them just like cars need to have lights on. Well I was on my way to a music ensemble practice because I was going to school for music and I was going with my parallel traffic sure enough I had no idea that there was a bike rider all of a sudden hit me on my left side my cane goes flying out of my hand and thanks to learning how to fall properly in jujitsu, I turned my head to one side because my fingers scrape the curb so if I fell face first I probably would’ve broken my teeth. Luckily a woman saw that she helped me and yelled at the bike rider and I needed to interrupt her yelling at this man to get her assistance in finding my cane because I had somewhere to go. Thankfully once I got my guide dog we’ve managed to avoid that but it’s still scary because at night pretty much totally blind but during the day same or similar thing that I’m not gonna notice the bike rider until they are right next to me and only on my right side because that’s the eye that has an OK amount of vision.

Ohmygosh trains and escalators are my kryptonite - like I get so much anxiety from getting on and off trains for the same reasons, and those gaps uuuugh. I don't even use escalators, I find an elevator every time because I've had a fobia ever since I was little. Great list, pretty much agree with everything on here - they've all plagued me at one time or another haha

I loved this, lmao. I'm very interested in knowing what the term for "seeing things" is because that DEFINITELY happens to me all the freakin' time. I ALWAYS think something is something entirely not what it is. Doing anything with fire terrifies me also. Train doors too! The gap! lol And revolving doors! Escalators are...tricky. I have my good days and bad days with them. And ice! I absolutely despise ice for multiple reasons. I do love snow. I do think it's pretty but I hate the crap that comes along with it. And dentists too. I am absolutely, absolutely terrified of the dentist for so many freakin' reasons and oh God, I can't even think about it. It sends my anxiety through the freakin' roof. I literally laughed out loud when you mentioned puddles because I HATE them. I have no depth perception. I never know how deep they are, so I always walk around them (or try to). Sometimes, if there isn't light hitting them to get the glare off of them, I can't even tell there's anything there and then I step in it and sometimes they're really deep and I get my entire foot covered in water.. Ugh. This was awesome. lmao.

Train and trolley tracks really scare me, because I'm afraid of falling on them and getting hit by the train. I'm also bothered by loud noises, because I use my hearing so much. I'm also weirded out by rubbery things, and I don't know why. I'm afraid of uneven ground and going down steps, probably because my vision was so bad I fell down some steps that I didn't see as a small child. I should have been taught to use a cane as soon as I could walk, but I don't think it was general practice to give canes to small children back then.

I'm with you on matches, but my first apartment had a gas stove. I learned to use those big kitchen matches, but I do prefer the pistol lighters. I can build a camp fire. I think fear of train doors is valid. In Vancouver BC, we took a tram that nearly separated me from my dog. It just started closing on us and wouldn't reopen. A gal with a Seeing Eye dog had a similar mishap realizingd the very thing I feard on the same train. The dog got stuck partially outside the train which took off and literally tore the dog's face off. Now I've really helped your fear along. Sorry. But it's certainly valid. NEVER use the monorail at the Vancouver BC train station. I've been scared of escalators and train tracks. I don't care if a track hasn't been used in 30 years. It would be just my luck. They might need to use it for some emergency. My foot will get stuck in the track and there I'll be, a hood ornament on a locomotive. I don't like unenclosed heights either. I feel like something's going to suck me right over the edge. I don't like elevators or escalators, though I do use them. Loud noises used to terrify me when I was little. I used to be terrified of getting stuck in a restroom stall with the toilet overflowing. To this day, I never flush it until the door is unlocked. Now they have these automatic flushers. I hold it until I get home. I don't like restrooms in general cause I can't see what i'm sitting on or what's on it. I don't like buffets either. In Hawaii, I ended up with some weird food. I just know I'm going to bump into someone and wear my lunch homeon the front of my shirt.

One thing that happened to me very shortly after coming out of the hospital when I became legally blind: I went to the mall with my caregiver around Christmas, and I was standing in line for a good sample, when I felt somebody behind me hit me in the arm, really hard. I asked Sherry what happened, and the person came around and screamed at me, "Hey, asshole, why are you ignoring me?" It turned out to be a worker I knew from the same place, who I hadn't seen for almost a year. Sherry had to explain to her that i was now legally blind and didn't see her coming up behind me. She was really apologetic after that, and I forgave her, but it was a big shock that something like that could happen in public.

I don’t get along well with revolving doors or any sort of glass doors because glass doors love nothing better than to close on me if they are automatic and obviously I can’t see it coming.

My Thoughts On These Scary Things: 1. Buzzing: No. I just open a windo and hopefully will go out into the wild. 2. Hanging things: No 3. Matches: I don't like matches I think it's cheaper to use a lighter. 4. Trains: Maybe 5. Ice: I'm in the southern US. I don't have to worry about ice. 6. Dentists: Not really

My pet peeves are 1. elevator/lift doors. I once got my foot stuck in one of these and it was painful 2. Stepping in front of busses. If they're waiting at the crossing and you're about to cross the road I will wait for them to go past then cross 3. Fireworks

I am a visually impaired person who hates lit candles. If I am in a room/walking in a room where there is a lit candle, I have to walk by the lit candle very carefully and glue my eyes to the flame until I am out of the room in order to feel safe again. Ugh!

I'm scared of matches and other things I actually drop the candle Match and I run now as a dad help me I cannot do this and I'll also I'm scared of knives I nearly cut my finger off with a knife and I'm like nope I'm not cooking you cook

I can relate to almost all of these, especially the buzzing, but for me, the train doors one is more like lift doors. Our family go on holiday to Florida a lot, and although we get these in the UK too (and I am still very much scared of them), I just try best not to think of them here as they are so uncommon, especially in urban areas. But that is snakes. Literally, scariest thing in the world. Because I can't see them, obviously it would be vey easy to accidentally tread on one. It would also be harder to work out if it was trying to then come back around to bite me in response. Also, anyone else find the sound of a train approaching the platform a bit off putting?

I have an offending tree round the corner, it needs a trim because I collide with it often.

OMG I feel the exact same way. I've had bad experiences with dentist and doctors for that matter who have not been very happy with me when I try through this with they were doing but what can you expect when you don't give her verbal directions. It drive my mobility teacher crazy how wary I am a dream doors and how much I hate doing escalators but I think like you said because I can't tap on the bottom is coming up and it is and that's what I have there is moving. It also drivability teacher crazy how weird I am a broken doors. Getting trapped or get hit like the value of coarse and also because the glass I can't tell if it's a door or at sometimes even when it's open because the glass see-through so it's just not a good visual I do enjoy the snow though I too am extremely wary of ice and skeptical a post. It is hard to tell the difference between bottles in puddles of the canned of help. Anytime I find my self had a conversation with Aaron piece of clothing or laundry basket which was either in the middle of the hallway on the floor or hang on the back over door. No one should have to look into the road because someone parked my car at Pitman. Bike bicycle us and drivers should be very careful with your favorite dog and be able to disability. They should be mindful of the fact that might not be able to tell where they go in or they coming from. I think it's great that you found a way to take this and make it not only educational but also amazing.

I was at alton towers yesterday, well we qued for the roller coaster restraunt and I didn’t realise we were stood right near one of the corners on galactica aka air, so when it came round that corner I jumped a mile, one of the staff saw, came over and said it’s ok that was just galactica your stood right near this corner on it to your left and now nemesis is coming but as that was a bit further away yes I could hear it but wasn’t as loud. So that didn’t scare me.

My visual impairments I do what I need to do to function, its fellow humans that make it difficult in my life.

Also hate loud sudden noises. It first started with my balloon fear. I hate the way balloons feel anyway I want to rub against each other make that squeaking noise and it sounds like they’re about to pop. I tried overcoming that when I was 12 and blew up a balloon and it popped right in my face. My dog is also afraid of balloons I found out from her puppy raiser. She stop I felt a sign in front of me told her to go forward she backed away from it thought maybe a bike ride it was coming. The wind is blowing and then I hear balloons rubbing I said OK let’s speed it up here come on girl I try to encourage her she eventually did but I was afraid one was going to pop. Same thing with champagne bottles you damn well better tell me you’re about to open a champagne bottle because whatever is in my hand is going to go flying out and I almost always scream. Thank you dictate I said sudden. Another one is ophthalmologist. When they put the eyedrops in and it’s only with my right eye they have to try three or four times for it to be done correctly I hate the idea of things being stuck in your eyeballs or hearing people talking about operating eyeballs are stabbing eyes it creeps me out. My left eye is so useless they can put the eyedrops in just fine but my right eye twitches and plus the nice stag mess makes it even worse and then I get so nervous I can’t stay still.

OMG YES! 2. Things on back of doors - They shit me up something chronic! Your brain tries to fill in the gaps and assumes what it is and we see it as something else for a moment until we take another look. I can't remember what this is called. You might want to search for a vide on KZfaq by TED Talks called "The Hallucinations of the Mind" by Oliver Sacks. It'll mention it and another condition related to this.

The only thing that scares me 😱 about my vision impairments is walking across the street and cutting things with knives 🍴.

You do know that new train doors have sensors that will not let the dots close on you or on your guard dog. At least estonian trains (Stadler Flirt, shuttle train) door beep at you before they close.

Some bicyclist let me know by calling out " on your left" (right). I always thank them :) Cobb webs drive me nuts! Nothing worse than walking into them getting a face full of potential Spiders everywhere. Yuck!

I'm sacred of ice too I'm visuly imared also. I can't see the ice very well. And I also hate corssing the st I do use a canewell the sun is out and at night. I'm very sensitive to light. I have almost gotten hit by cars many times cause I live on a hill I can't see them till they are like 20 feet away or something like that. I have bad dethp perpspsion so I also sacred of new sidewalks. That's why when I got the cane it helped cuause cracks in sidewalk look like stairs to me lol

i personnally am really sccared of electrical cars. theyre so damn quiet, that you cant hear them and it freaks me out.

The train track gap is really scary. Even crossing a street with a big set of train tracks especially when that automatic gate goes down I’m thinking while I’m crossing does that gate is going to go down and cars have to wait but I’ll be stuck there as the train is coming. Anytime we cross those try to encourage my guide dog to go a little quicker I make sure I left my feet up as much as possible to hopefully not tripped on anything. Hate going down stairs. Going up is fine but going downstairs or even with a cane and you didn’t catch yourself in time or stopped to close and over balance because of awful depth perception is really scary. I’m glad guide dogs are trained to have a certain distance from stairs, but overtime my dog got used to that and she would somewhat curl in front of me if we’re at the top of a set of stairs which is fine because it gave me time to adjust my foot and feel with my right hand if there’s a railing if not I will slowly drag my hands down the wall I don’t care.

I'm not sure if you would count this as scary but it's very annoying.. Stepping into dog poop on a pavement.. I never see it until it's too late.. Why do people allow their dogs to poop where people walk and not clean up the mess?!😩😩

Fucking black ice..... its why I hate snow. Some people go all 'YAY SNOW." I'm like "No.... I've slipped and it hurt and the back of my head cracked the against pavement."

hi Wanted to ask I don't know if I get a reply but I'm having trouble doing my hair. I'm blind in my left eye and my right eye has deteriorated so now I have little vision in my right side of my right eye. I have Macular degeneration in my left eye and in my right Histropplasmoses.I was 34 when it started now I'm 43 took me a while to accept my disability.

Im visually Impaired and I have tinnitus so the fracking buzzing comes from my head too.. lol I always think I see people or ghosts for a split second before my brain kicks in to what the blur or flash is.
