I know the Canadian government is STILL after them for a 5 MILLION dollar chandlers bill, the Aussie's too, and even the Kiwis. Last I heard they were going to start registering their 'ships' in places like Tanganyika, because they cannot pass Coast Guard inspections (nor even PAY for them to be conducted), they were registered in Panama one year and the Panamanian Coast Guard found so many violations that they ordered the ships engine-room occupied (by Coast Guard) and the ships CHAINED TO THE PIER, JUST FOR SAFETY'S SAKE!

@@Isinforblood i agree. But i think the damage spanned 3 large compartments. A cut probably way over 100 feet long. On a small wooden ship they could jump over board and stuff sails and what ever they could find into the damage and the water pressure would help push the sail into the damage and at least slow it down. No way on a modern ship, from the inside.

Paul Watson should be banned from any maritime activity, he not only puts his crews life in danger bit also the lives of any poor bastard sent to rescue them. The Southern Ocean isn't a place for inexperienced sailors at all.

In Canada we send our naval officers to ''Ice School'' before sending anybody in the Arctic. The Arctic is alive. You just don't sail your ship out there thinking '' Easy, I'll just sail around the ice''. I would assume the Antarctic is similar in that regard. Regardless, each time I hear about the Sea Shepherd, they're always doing something reckless. It's a wonder nobody died yet.

Is it my imagination or does Paul smile every time they ram an iceberg? My ship sank 78 times while I was onboard and the Skip was nervous each and every time we opened ballast valves and slipped below. He knew how hard it was to refloat any vessel so he wanted it done right the first time. Let someone screw up and skip was right there to correct you. Paul doesn't care.

The Steve Irwin is the ship they are on in the video, filmed in either 2007 or 2008. The ship was recently retired from the fleet this year (2019) and being turned into a museum ship to gain donations for the rest of the fleet to operate.
