Hmm, the best way it can possibly go for this sort of thing, and with a threat looming in the background. A unity and a diversity, joined together in common purpose. Not for war, or base survival, but just to not be alone anymore. Sweet, in its own way.

Population only expands quickly if people have lots of kids. Not sure people will want large families in the future more than they do now.
