The fact that he’s played 120 tests is maybe the most impressive thing in rugby. These types of freak athletes always have huge injury problems, and shortened careers.

Mostert really deserved a mention there. The man is a menace at every lineout (and isn't even bothered when it's not Malcolm Marx throwing the ball xD), has great off the ball skills, and is a tackling machine than doesn't get recognized as much as he deserves because he is (un)lucky enough to play in the same team as Pieter-Steph Du Toit. I mean, he tackled like 50 times in the knock-out stages of the 2023 RWC, and....Did. Not. Miss. A. Single. One. Ôo
@Karma-qt4ji

Shockingly enough, he did miss two tackles but as you rightly pointed out, none in the knock out stages. His stats at the end of the competition was 75 from 77. It is absolutely ridiculous that we possess that much depth that we did not miss Lood...!!

I have this theory: In order to win a rugby world cup, you have to have the best locks in the world. 1999 Australia - John Eales 2003 England - Martin Johnson 2007 South Africa - Victor Matfield AND Bakkies Botha 2011 New Zealand - Sam Whitelock / Brad Thorn 2015 New Zealand - Sam Whitelock & Brodie Retallick 2019 South Africa - Lood de Jager & Eben Etzebeth 2023 Eben Etzebeth Each arguably the best lock in the world. Think Gregor Townsend deserves a wee shoutout for coaches, while the World Cup was disappointing for Scotland, the world rankings as well as back to back Calcutta cups show how much he’s changed the team. It wasn’t that long ago that it was a conversation who would get the 6 nations wooden spoon Italy or Scotland, and he’s managed to change that dialogue and make the team one that people can believe in.
@Karma-qt4ji
@Karma-qt4ji 3 ай бұрын
No. Firstly, let us consider that the teams Gregor managed to beat were England (who were so poor they replaced their coach less than a year before the RWC), Australia (who were so poor they replaced their coach less than a year before the RWC) and Wales (who were so poor they replaced their coach less than a year before the RWC). There are more things in common there than just Gregor Townsend coaching Scotland. Secondly, there has to be some pressure on the head coach of the senior team to ensure that the conveyor belt of talent into that team. He, and Scotland Rugby, have failed dismally. You spend all your money on imports at both club and international level, even going against the spirit of the game by exploiting the eligibility laws to do so, and in the meantime your youth program is non-existent! Your U20's are not even good enough to qualify for the World Cup FFS!! But it's all gold because DvdM is winning games for you and making your head coach look good....

@Karma-qt4ji
@Karma-qt4ji 3 ай бұрын
The referee, as we saw throughout the tournament, is merely the leading individual of a four man team of officials. Ignoring the Assistant Referee on the opposite side of the field who would have been unsighted or at least far enough away to not have a clear view, the nearside AR keyed his mike as the incident happened. If he had not agreed with the referees decision, there would have been a discussion about it at least and it may have been referred to the TMO who, remember, was also watching and also did not interject. That's three of the four officials agreeing that the ball was not knocked forward and the fourth one likely unsighted or too far away. Not trying to be funny here, but given the impact of the TMO / AR's on this tournament, how much more do we actually need before (even begrudgingly) accepting that they got it right?
